Total Winnings Discrepancy

In the first section it states that James has a winning "combined total of $2,714,416" (this includes $250,000 for his ToC win). Under "Game show appearances" >> Jeopardy! it states that "Holzhauer won a total of $2,464,216" during his 33 wins. Nickname

Not sure what the source is for the "Holtzy" nickname now in the article, but this article indicates that he is known as "Jamie" to friends, which is consistent with my understanding. Robert K S (talk) 21:22, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The nickname was removed with an IP edit [1] with the edit summary "fixed typo". I have no preference whether the nickname is included or not but if it is to be disincluded for good reason then the two refs after the name should be deleted since they serve no other purpose than to source the nickname. For now, we can keep the table of episode results, pending results for the winning streak. As for the notes column, we should also mention when and if James Holzhauer surpasses Ken Jennings's winnings. When to update win count/total?

I noticed that the sentence with his number of wins and total winnings was edited this morning at 5:20 AM CDT, which is before when the show first airs at 9:30 AM CDT and well before most of the country sees it. I presume it was edited by someone with access to the program ahead of its scheduled airing. I think it shouldn't be updated until it has aired, and since the earliest airing of the show is 9:30 AM CDT, the information shouldn't be published here until around 9:55 AM CDT. Personally, I would hold off until the evening, when it will have aired in most of the country. I don't think think this falls under

As far as I know, the show airs in some west coast markets at 7:30 PST (10:30 EST). Therefore, I think it would be best to try to hold out until 11:00 pm EST to ensure the whole continental U.S. avoids spoilers. --Bcschneider53 (talk) 16:59, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SPOILER, which basically says information should not be deleted just because it spoils the plot. In my opinion, once there is a verifiable source that states he won or lost and how much he earned (this source would most likely be the episode itself), then it can be placed here. Colored Background

It has been established green would be used in scores that made the list for Top 10 Highest Single-Day Winnings and yellow for scores where the game was not a runaway at the end of the Double Jeopardy round. Date of birth

Don't see any source (is it reference or source...i'm new to wikipedia) for Holzhauer being born in July 1984. For the record i googled and his profile from MyLife appears to have been removed (which is odd since 90% of people usually show up on mylife). Maybe someone here knows him personally and knows what his actual date of birth is. The footnote 9 presumably explains why there is doubt about his birth year, surprising in the 1980s. Unfortunately is is a paid subscription site, and so useless for further information. Birthday

on the May 22nd episode he finishes with $71,885.... could that be a reference to July 18, 1985 his birth date? Before the sidebar had July is his birthday. McDonaldsGuy (talk) 13:18, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It could be his birthday, but could also be someone else's birthday, any other significant date, or just a random number. Without a source specifically saying his birthday is July 18,1985, you can not just assume it is. Frank AnchorTalk 19:58, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese heritage

On "The Chase" of 14 June 2022, Holzhauer stated directly that he "is Japanese". And the article already mentions he is of Japanese ancestry. He also stated on Jeopardy that he identified with his Japanese grandmother. So, it would seem like he should be covered on Task Force Asian Americans. THIS article only has "His grandmother was Japanese and spoke very little English". Why not copy that information, with references, from The Chase article, with the proof that he "identified" with her? That would establish a basis for making such an edit.
