There has been some confusion concerning the place of birth of Jean Harris. I have a book on crime that gives her place of birth as Chicago. If you will click on the Find-A-Grave link near the bottom of the article, you will see that Find-A-Grave shows her place of birth as Chicago. I originally listed Chicago as her place of birth when I created this article; somebody changed this information from Chicago to Cleveland. Several Internet sources give Cleveland as Jean Harris' place of birth. I know that Jean Harris grew up Cleveland, but I don't know if she was born there.

I have seen innumerable examples of conflicting information on the Internet. Much of the information is second hand, third hand, or information to the nth degree. The only person who can verify where Jean Harris was born is Jean Harris' mother. If Jean Harris herself had told you that she was born in Cleveland, the statement would be hearsay. I don't use ancestry.com, but I've heard that this site does give places of birth. Maybe Jean Harris' birth location can be verified (?) on that genealogy site.

It's little wonder why hearsay is thrown out in a court of law.

It might be added that he had proposed to Harris, but then claimed he couldn't go through with it, as a cover-story for his dumping her in favour of the younger woman. Valetude (talk) 04:20, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
