Untitled

I've focused mostly on Tower in retirement. This page could use a lot more information about Sen. Tower's nearly quarter-century in the Senate.

Any chance someone who knows about this could rewrite this sentence into something coherent? "An investigation determined that the crash resulted from failure of the plane's propeller control unit, but was a very mysterious and still unsolved plane crash which caused the pilots to lose control of the aircraft." The latter half of that makes literally no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:579:9220:100:451F:8D11:40AA:A5BF (talk) 18:43, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rejection as Bush's secretary of defense

I'm no expert on things political, but wasn't Tower rejected by Congress after Bush appointed him secretary of defense? If true, this should probably be included, as it is exceedingly rare for a Cabinet appointment to be rejected. I'd add it to the article myself, but I really know nothing of the background surrounding the situation. Clemenjo (talk) 23:53, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Source for Lila rejecting flowers?

The Family Life section was inserted in May by Maestroh, diff.

What's the source for this statement:

As the embittered Lila lay near death from cancer, she refused to accept flowers sent to her by John Tower, according to Tower's former assistant Ken Towery.

It really needs to have one. Dpbsmith (talk) 14:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Found a reference. I expanded the quotation because Towery's point is to demonstrate Tower's civility and gentlemanliness. I'm not sure this incident belongs in the article; what do others thing? Dpbsmith (talk) 19:04, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retirement Section

Not only does this section not cite any of the opinions expressed (about the way Tower handled the arms talks, etc), but it glosses over the SecDef nomination - the overwhelming reasons were Tower's alleged personal problems (testimony about his drinking and womanizing torpedoed his nomination) and, to a lesser extent, his close ties to defense contractors. This section claims - without any sources - that it was a political hit job. If anyone has any neutral sources to back this up, please come forward; otherwise, I think that sentence should be removed or heavily reworded. Anyone?--71.252.13.111 07:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Harvey Oswald

Nothing is mentioned on his relationship with Lee Harvey Oswald. ☆ CieloEstrellado 01:28, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was no relationship; Oswald wrote to Tower for assistance in getting out of the USSR and Tower forwarded the letter to the State Dept.Dynzmoar (talk) 22:33, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentor to John McCain

He was also a mentor to John McCain.[1] Crust (talk) 19:05, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Divorce Details

Unless someone can explain why the nasty details of his relationship with his exwife are encyclopedia worthy let these remain removed. Jstanierm (talk) 22:52, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

embarrasing material in article

"Tower also played a crucial role in the Nixon campaign's covert attempt to sabotage the 1968 Paris Peace Accords which could have ended the Vietnam War."

That statement is wrong on so many levels. At the very least, the hyptothetical "could have ended the Vietnam War" should be removed. It should also be elaborated to explain exactly what his "role" was. Attack statements like this thrown into an article and attached to hypotheticals are one of the many things that are very wrong with Wikipedia. 174.46.28.58 (talk) 16:17, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
