Which European power claimed the territory first?

I was under the impression that Portugal claimed the triangle prior to the Germans becoming interested in Africa and that the Germans took it by force in the 1880s (1885?). Is this true? I got this impression from documents which were very pro-Portugese in nature. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.44.184.49 (talk) 16:24, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Prussia

The Kionga Triangle, unlike some settlements in West Africa, was never a territory of Prussia, nor of Brandenburg. It was claimed in the 1890s, when their majesties the Kings in or of Prussia had long been German Emperor. I have therefore deleted the Prussia tags, unless it can be shown that this is incorrect. The references to Germany remain, and the duplication was itself 'uncomfortable', as there weren't concurrent, or even consecutive, Prussian and German administrations.Protozoon (talk) 12:38, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
