The articles says of Gottwald's election, "This has been the widest electoral success of the communist party ever recorded in a free election." The definite article is weird here -- does "the communist party" mean the Czech party, or communist parties in general, anywhere? The citation is a French article from 1993, and I'm not sure it's still true. The Communist Party in Moldova routinely wins free elections, for instance. --Jfruh (talk) 04:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnic german descent? Surely, his surname is definitelly german. I personaly presume, that his ancestors came from wischauer sprachinsel (bunch of eight german speaking villages near Wischau). But is it necessary to explicitely write this fact? More than third of Czechs have german surname and more or less distant german descent (Jungmann, Rieger, Klaus). So in my humble opinion, if there is not any indicators about his family tree or indicators, that his nearer ancestors were ethnic germans, I think it is quite useles to write about his ethnic german descent. Klement Gottwald came from a sudeten german family. His mother was Marie Gottwald (in Czech Maria Gottwaldova), and her mother tongue was German. ( that means sudeten german )
At the age of twelve Klement moved to Vienna to work for his uncle.

His ethnicity is important since he was a proponent of the Expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia. Did he not consider himself a German? Did he exclude himself as a German antifascist? --Error (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
