I came across a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Luther_vandross, so I checked on Commons what was available, and inserted it.

I got reverted: Reverted good faith edits by Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk): Low quality image (and same as the exsting image)

Yep, it's a crop from the image further down in the article, but IMO good enough res for a leadimage, and it's the one available atm. It's absolutely better than no leadimage. And since we have it, no fair use option.
