Market Hill

Population in 1086 Incorrect - or at least not backed up by source

The article states that "According to the Domesday Book there were 180 townsmen in 1086." and although a few other sites state the same thing, so far as i can tell the domesday book doesn't back that up.
From what I've read, the most accurate information the domesday book can provide is that as of 1086 there were 54 households ( http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TL8507/maldon/ )although this doesn't really shed much light on exactly how many townsmen there were. Given that, I suspect the assertion that the domesday book states there were 180 townsmen may be inaccurate.

I've updated the wiki page to mention the households (+ citation) and also changed the text to read that the 180 figure is an estimate.

Addition of mention of twinned partner Villeparisis

Hi I've not found out how to edit the Maldon, Essex page but want to point out that Maldon is also twinned with Villeparisis, which is located approximately 38km from the centre of Paris. Maldon, Essex → Maldon

Maldon → Maldon (disambiguation)

– The town in Essex would appear to be the primary topic. It (and the sub topics Maldon (UK Parliament constituency) and Maldon District) got nearly 5x the views of the 2 in Australia [[1]]. The town has a population of 21,875 (the figure in the infobox is only for the parish) and the district has a population of 64,000, compared with 1,513 for Maldon, Victoria (of which is named after the Essex one) and 15 for Maldon, New South Wales (which also appears to be). Weak oppose. The community in Essex certainly wins on traffic, and were the community in Victoria a run-of-the-mill town I'd support the move — but I see it actually has the unique claim of being "Australia's first notable town"[2] and the first Australian town declared "historic". It's history would seem to grant the town more enduring notability and educational value than its peers, so under the circumstances I don't think the Essex in Molden quite reaches

That's interesting so the town did have 20000 people however I'd also point out that the English town is also notable for the Battle of Maldon. However considering the current population difference (and being the original) which for the district is greater than London/London, Ontario and the town is greater than Birmingham/Birmingham, Alabama and even Manchester/Manchester, New Hampshire. We could put a direct hatnote to the Victoria one, however I agree that this isn't as clear cut as I though, I now change my implied support to Weak support. Maldon, Essex → Maldon

Maldon → Maldon (disambiguation)

– I realize I filed another RM 2 and a half years ago that didn't get much input and got a valid point about the one in Victoria being "historic" meaning this one doesn't quite reach the bar however I actually think that given the battle (and the poem) that the Essex town is actually primary by the 2nd criteria. As can be seen the DAB page only list 3[[3]] other topics that aren't directly associated with the town and as noted 2 of these (the 2 places in Australia) are named after this one. The song has a diacritic (though per
