Made up.

I have never even heard of this. This is not a topic up for any debate, as it would essentially null our constitution. 85Rose (talk) 13:51, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a forum for general discussions and debates and no one is promoting monarchism in the US. However, the colonies that made up the US once had a monarch and Washington was offered the title of king at one point, so it has historical background and it should be covered as such. A counter example would be Republicanism in the United Kingdom. Keivan.fTalk 02:50, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Scaling down the page's scope

The page gave much more coverage to the topic of monarchism in the United States than the subject merits. It is an extremely fringe belief to the point where it hardly exists. The changes I made are summarized below:

  • Introduction: The intro was very grand and made it sound like monarchism in the United States is much bigger than it is. No sources were cited in the second paragraph for the discussion of the different monarchist groups. The third paragraph did not properly summarize the article and cited a source that was literally about an American reddit user who believes in monarchy. I have deleted those lines and tried to write a better intro
  • British America (1607-1783): This section was way too long. This article is about monarchism in the United States, not in the colonial period. There is a whole article on the colonial period of the United States. Furthermore, the list of kings is completely unnecessary and does not add any value to the topic, and it just bloats the article. I have removed the list of kings and shortened the discussion on the colonial period.
  • Modern era: I updated this section by putting the name of the current monarchist party. I also rewrote the "potential monarchs" section. The way it was written made me chuckle as it described "schools of thought" and a "movement" when in reality the sources cited simply identify the descendant of George Washington who would be in line to be king if there were a monarchy.
  • Public Support: I moved the discussion of Loyalists up to the section on the colonial period and American Revolution.

I hope this has improved the article and made it more accurate and easy to navigate. Theresonly1zlatan (talk) 03:37, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

American Caesar

Hello. I am wondering if it would be worth writing a section on how some on the right (of the political spectrum) want an American Caesar. Caesar in this context was a tyrant - but some are actually discussing a way this could be accomplished. It would of course end up beyond Constitutional norms and would probably have to employ extra-legal tactics. Any comments on the possibility of adding this as a section in this article? Also, the self-described monarchist Curtis Yarvin supports this idea of an American Caesar or at least an American monarchy. Here are some links about this: [1], [2], [3], . I have tried to find an article on Wikipedia about this but have not had any luck with that. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 02:27, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Generally no, those articles are about dictatorship. Of course, Caesar famously never became a monarch (

@DeCausa: thanks very much. I agree a section such as this would be better suited at Authoritarianism#2000s authoritarian revival. Also, as you seem to point out, Caesar never actually became a tyrant / monarch because he was assassinated. So there are inaccuracies that are being mixed in with fact when individuals tout the desire for an American Caesar. Obviously, as you noted, these people are advocating authoritarianism no matter the title. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 22:32, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes, I can see that from a U.S. perspective monarch/tyrant/dictator might be synonyms but there may be arguments against that! DeCausa (talk) 22:47, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DeCausa: Well, as an American I can see the difference, especially after you brought it up. So, it seems this argument for having a monarchal Caesar as a dictator conflates the definitions and facts. Hope that made sense. Queen Elizabeth II was certainly not a dictator. And I am sorry about her passing. It is a sad day. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 02:20, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
