Article Needs Significant Updating

The article needs significant updating. Take the "Operations" section, for example. While the article itself only mentions the first French casualty, the official statistics on the side-bar (for lack of a better term) lists three French casualties. I will be working on this article moving forward. And I would appreciate any help and insight from any other Wikipedians also interested in this topic, especially as the French (and other Western powers) heat up their operations against the Islamic State and other terrorist groups in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks (e.g., the Paris and Lebanon attacks, etc.). In addition, the Estonian section is severely outdated, the Riigikogu have already approved and several missions have taken place (All the way to ESTPLA-31)

Suggestions for improvement

The article can be significantly improved. I plan on creating a new section regarding the 'opinions on Barkhane' (in Mali, France, and elsewhere). The French counterpart article includes an extensive section on the subject. The English version can gain from having one too. I will re-write the introductory sentence as it does not mention the main actor conducting the operation. I will also add a variety of academic sources to strengthen the academic relevance of the article. JeanJacquesMoldu (talk) 09:35, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I think it will be very relevant and instructive to add a part on the "opinions on Barkhane", however make sure that all of your sources for this are reliable. I would also beware of portraying your own opinion in this way, so make sure you are objective and portray different and contrasting opinions if you do. Rewriting the first sentences also would be welcome I think! Best fo luck! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarsdeMat (talkcontribs) 15:50, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New section

Hi! I created a new section on the 'Opinions' on Operation Barkhane. I used various sources (scholars and newspapers) and the French version of the article, which already possessed a section on the opinions. I believe that the article can gain from having a proper section on how the actors engaged in the conflict feel about the French intervention. I did my best to remain neutral and include different perspectives on the matter. I tried to take a general stance, as it is a crucial and sensitive topic. Every comment on my work is welcomed, and most importantly, feel free to improve or correct some of what I did if needed. Cheers. JeanJacquesMoldu (talk) 12:21, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Battle of Niaki into Operation Barkhane

Minor incident as part of a larger operation.  // Timothy :: talk  09:49, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. No separate article warranted. There is already a sentence in the target article about the operation ("On 12 November 2020, French Mountains commandos operating under Barkhane killed 30 jihadists in Central Mali."). Mooonswimmer 23:17, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Support. Agree with both of the above. Moritoriko (talk) 04:23, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
