CHP and Left

CHP is generally considered left in Turkey and center-left by the international media. The leader of the party, Özgür Özel, urges his party as "CHP should not forget its Left-wing identity." See: https://www.birgun.net/haber/chp-li-ozgur-ozel-chp-nin-sol-sosyal-demokrat-kimligini-unutmamasi-gerekiyor-446344

In Turkey, CHP is generally called "a left-wing party", very few people say it is "center-left", and with its new leader it is more left-wing than before. See: https://www.duvarenglish.com/amp/turkish-main-opposition-chps-new-leader-ozel-vows-implementation-of-left-policies-news-63382

I think CHP's political position should be changed to "Center-left and Left". Mstf221 (talk) 08:19, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mstf221 This is because political labels work differently in Turkish. Turkish does not make use of the word merkez sol often (and therefore the term sol is used inclusively for all left-leaning ideologies), and even then CHP belongs to the Left of Center tradition. The vast majority of English-language sources use the term center-left. Uness232 (talk) 04:18, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would strongly disagree, in Turkey, there isn't really a centre left, it is usually classified as left, center or right. CHP is DEFINETLY center-left, even further, just center. Youprayteas talk/contribs 18:26, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Left wing nationalism

This is also a left wing nationalist party as made obvious by the speeches provided by the vast majority of their senior ranking members such as Mansur yavaş or imamoglu. 92.40.197.154 (talk) 01:57, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Referring to this party as pro European is misleading

There are indeed members of this party whom want the country to join the European Union. However the majority o supporters of the party and members of which are either neutral or strongly opposed to the party. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu alongside other senior members of the party have even publicly stated that they want to follow neither the west nor the east but only the path of Atatürk. As made evident by the republic protests in 2007 the core principles of the party and voter base of said party remain widely opposed to membership of the European Union 92.40.197.152 (talk) 02:19, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
