What is Engel's proper title? The NBC bio page says "Middle East Correspondent/Beirut Chief", but I've heard NBC affiliates on air refer to him as "Middle East Bureau Chief," "Baghdad Bureau Chief," and "Beirut Bureau Chief." 68.235.161.20 14:13, 5 November 2006 (UTC)tm[reply]

As Engel is an employee of NBC and not of any of the affiliates, I suspect his title as described on the NBC's bio page to be the more accurate. It may be though that the bio is dated. 4.249.111.180 02:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NBC's Richard Engle did a story that mobile phones and computers were hacked the second people arrived in Russia for the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. The NBC story was completely false, and had been faked to get the audience looking at Russia in a particular way. Leo Laporte ^[1]influential technology reporter says that they would get hacked if the reporter deliberately went to a malicious site and downloaded the software that would infect the computer or mobile phone. Engle was a thousand miles away in Moscow when he did it. He also deliberatetly disabled the security on his Android phone before he did it. Leo says the results would've been that way anywhere in the world.

I presume this article was written largely by Richard Engel himself: this is the only way to explain non-encyclopedic sentences like 'His understanding of the Middle East and profound awareness of its many complexities provided great depth to his reporting on the unrest in the region'. Given Engel's claim that he was convinced by a gang that called themselves Shabiha (shabiba being a word meaning thug or thugs, used as derogatory form of abuse for the Syrian Arab Army) his understanding of the Middle East, especially of Syria, is questionable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bougatsa42 (talk • contribs) 01:27, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
