Cancer

The illness and death section contradicts itself. It claims that he had cancer previously, in 2004. It then quotes him as saying he had cancer five years ago. Was he wrong in claiming it was five years ago, or is the statement that it was four years earlier incorrect, or are both wrong. His most recent cancer was lung, which is fatal in the large majority of cases. Does anyone know which organ the earlier cancer was in, or how long he had it for? They are basic facts that should, if known, be stated on a biographical article. Werdnawerdna (talk) 18:52, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, well the references all say that he battled bladder cancer in 2004 and that he survived it five years ago. Perhaps they are just being approximate in that it was more than four years ago? In any case, it is a direct quote. DoubleBlue (Talk) 19:19, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please clarify: was it lung cancer that was the COD or was it coronary? Secondly, was he a smoker or did the prior cancer spread to his lungs? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.186.251.147 (talk) 19:35, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MSM reports he was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2004. (Lancaster did say "five years ago" in his statement, but he was a football coach, not a math major.) He was considered cancer-free after treatment. He was subsequently diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2008, however, there is no indication whether this was a second cancer, or a recurrence of the original cancer. He undergoing chemo and radiation when he died of a heart attack (not cancer). Yes, the early stories had said cancer was the cause of death but updates switched to a heart attack. DoubleBlue (Talk) 13:57, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He was diagnosed with bladder cancer early 2004, so in his mind it was over 4 yrs so he said 5. Unfortunately the cancer has spread and he passed away in 2008. Lana2018 (talk) 01:47, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Height

Lancaster's documented height of 5'5" has been changed several times to 5'9". His height of 5'5" has been well documented and is sourced within the article. He didn't have the nickname "The Little General" for nothing (my italics). If anyone has a source that verifies the height of 5'9", please reveal it. Guinness323 (talk) 13:46, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ron Lancaster was listed as 5’10” while playing football. He was between 5’9” and 5’10”. He was 5’5’ when he graduated from High School and that is why most colleges did not recruit him. He grew over the summer and was just over 5’9” when he entered college. Lana2018 (talk) 01:45, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
