London, England, United Kingdom

There have been repeated reverts of how to present the birthplace in the infobox. I favour just putting "London", whereas

User:JayCoop has recently changed this to "London
, England, United Kingdom". While this is a minor issue, after several reverts we should discuss it. There are several linked issues:

  1. Whether major cities such as London should be wikilinked. Irrespective of what is done in other articles, we should be guided by the Wikipedia Manual of Style (MOS), which explicitly says that we do not normally link cities such as London. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking#What generally should not be linked says:
"the following are not usually linked: [...] The names of major geographic features, locations (e.g. United States, London, New York City, France, Berlin...),"
  2. Whether we should say which country London is in, or which nation state England is in. Here the MOS is less clear. I think I read that with major world cities we do not normally need to say where they are located. I would argue on a similar basis to wikilinking, that we do not need to state the obvious. This is complicated by the US convention of giving the state after the name of a city, this convention is not used in many other countries, except for disambiguation.
  3. Whether we should abbreviate "United Kingdom", and if so whether this should be to "UK" or "U.K."
    MOS:ACRO
indicates that we should abbreviate to "UK", not to "U.K.", and that the full name does not need to be written out in full on first use.

While I favour having just "London" for the reasons given above, I am prepared to compromise on "London, England, UK" (at least until I produce more definitive support for my favoured option). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Verbcatcher (talkcontribs) 23:54, 19 December 2016

Infobox picture

The infobox picture is very odd - it looks like a police mugshot. RP's usual appearance is nothing like that, and she usually looks pretty glamorous. Ef80 (talk) 14:58, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's too odd. There are other options at Commons:Category:Rosamund Pike in 2018, the most recent year available. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:08, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
None of those options are ideal. There's nothing wrong with them as images, but for some reason RP chose to present herself in a certain style at the 2018 Berlin event which wasn't very typical of her. Still, if that's the best we can do then so be it. --Ef80 (talk) 15:25, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Small edit to the Note about her birthday

I'm pretty sure Rosamund confirmed that she is an Aquarius in the comments of one of her posts, placing her birthday between January 20 and February 18. I figured we could add that to the note about her birthday? Malimaan (talk) 19:40, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User:Malimaan Sadly, that detail was previously removed because the comment is not immediately visible. --Tenebra Blu (talk) 15:57, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah okay, I did have to scroll all the way down to the earliest comments to find it, so I totally get why it's inconvenient to access. Sadly Instagram seems to have stopped to put the most relevant comments on top. I do technically have the comment screenshotted but I don't know if we can use that as a proof of anything. If there is no date, we should just stick to the year.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 12:45, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
