Thanks for fixing the reference links! I did not know they were broken in such a way. My fault.  :) --Marsbound2024 02:46, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aerogel

I've labelled the "six times the speed of a rifle bullet" statement with a fact tag. What's the speed of a rifle bullet? Which rifle, which bullet? Different rifles have muzzle velocities varying by a factor three (see, for example, [1]) so this needs to be more specific. 150.203.35.113 (talk) 09:15, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That fact tag has been removed by now. But it's worse. Not everybody is familiar with rifle bullets. I'm not and I hope to keep it that way. So simply giving a velocity in kilometres per second and not mentioning bullets at all seems better. Stardust (spacecraft) suggests it's about 6 km/s, but I can't find a very specific number. Adding a vague tag. PiusImpavidus (talk) 14:04, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As it happens, I handled it before seeing this. Yes, NASA use various standards of English for various audiences. Perhaps our earlier editor got a version made for rural Americans my age, most of whom would be less familiar than I am with tens of km/sec. Jim.henderson (talk) 00:00, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed on current plans for Mars sample return missions

The current situation of future plans for Mars

MarcoPolo-R) needs to be updated, especially what current plans on contributions and time-tables are from NASA, ESA and Roskomos. If anybody can contribute with references, it would be most welcome. Tony Mach (talk) 09:07, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply

use of the verb "return"

The transitive verb "return" means to bring BACK to a place of previous location. This is not what happens with pieces of asteroids. They have never been on earth before. This is a mistaken word-choice of astronomical proportions. Denicho (talk) 05:26, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The sample may not be from Earth, but the ship or crew is, and they would return. But that's kind of a moot point anyway, it's the name those space missions get and that's it. Cambalachero (talk) 18:43, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
