Child singer?

I noticed the page is categorized in "Canadian child singers". Mendes rose to fame at the age of 15, which by that point he wasn't exactly a "child" anymore. Perhaps a category of "Canadian teen singers" or such can be created.

Actor

I would like to have the movie he was in listed in his Wikipedia page. Shawn Mendes was part of the US cast of the movie "Underdogs", which came out in 2013. It was an animated film and he portrayed younger Jake. Though he did not have a huge role in the movie, most people do not know that he was part of the movie and I believe that people should know that he was actually in a movie.

Genre

Many sources have clarified that Shawn Mendes' discography contains music distinguished as rock, blues and pop-rock. Whenever those three genres are added under "genres", the changes are reversed by a certain user when they should not be. It is not personal opinion. Multiple sources have agreed with this. Please stop reversing the changes involving those genres.

Context for statement re Shawn Medes is heterosexual required

The addition of 'Shawn Mendes is heterosexual' is very strange without relevant context as I tried to insert.It is a very odd inclusion on a Wikipedia page without some context. You do not see the same insertions on say Tom Cruise, Barrack Obama pages for instance or millions of other celebrity pages. If your concerns are about adding appropriate context, why, in this edit, did you change the text to just Mendes is gay. and in this edit, did you change the text to Mendes says he is
WP:UNDUE emphasis on gossip on and rumors about a living person and there is no need to address it; perhaps more context could be added but not just by saying there is "extensive" speculation. If there are sources explicitly discussing the sexuality of Cruise, Obama, or others (i.e., no one is assuming they are straight just because of no evidence to the contrary), then I would say the articles should be updated to reflect that information. The fact is Mendes may be gay or he may be heterosexual... We just have him stating he is not gay. Many other celebrities have said they were straight but ended up admiting they were in fact gay later. Without some context your statement Shawn Mendes is heterosexual is not a proven fact it is just what he is saying at this point in time... It might be true or it might not. By altering it to say he says he is heterosexual is a lot more accurate but my preference would be adding the context that it has been a cause of discussion which Mendes has chosen to respond to and state that he is not gay. I certainly think that if the statement is to be included, it makes sense to say that he talked publicly about it because of the speculation. Unless Mendes has described himself specifically with the words "heterosexual" or "straight" (or synonymous phrases), we cannot call him this. From what I can tell, he has said he is "not gay", so we can say that. Maybe "Mendes has stated that he is not gay, following speculation by his fans." Let's not forget that he could be bisexual, pansexual, asexual etc. The user above me needs to be ignored. We cannot make assertions with no evidence about living people, particularly those that they have stated to be untrue per

Regarding this, I agree with Roscelese. Stating that he is heterosexual without context makes no sense. It should be made clear why we are stating that he's heterosexual. Yes, we commonly state that people are gay, bisexual, pansexual or asexual...without further commentary, but the reasons for that have been made clear elsewhere. Either add the context or remove "Shawn Mendes is heterosexual."

Can someone stop adding unsubstantiated gossip about his relationship with Camila Cabello. This is not a forum for trolls, this is supposed to be a source of information. Mendes has denied the accusations of a stunt so either remove this portion or add clarification please.

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Shawn Mendes's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Religious family - Incorrect

Shawn did an interview on the podcast Armchair Expert, episode 275, released December 14, 2020.

In the interview, at timestamp 20:58, Shawn says: "I grew up in a family that wasn't spiritual at all. There was no talk of religion or God or anything."

This contradicts what's currently in the wiki, where it says "He was raised in a religious family." [4]

If you follow that reference 4, the article actually doesn't actually have any direct sources of him saying he's religious. He's talking about religion in the context of fashion, and then the article simply writes: "Mendes--who later revealed he did come from a religious upbringing". However, it's not clear where he reveals this, there's no reference to that source.

Yet, on the podcast it comes straight from him speaking.

Personal Life Section Changes

The current personal life summary on this page only mentions his current girlfriend, Camila Cabello, of two years with a reference to them being accused of a PR stunt. Considering they’ve been dating for two years now and have been friends for many years before that, I think this section should be revised to leave out the unfounded rumors and talk more about their relationship.

Suggested edit: Since July 2019, Shawn Mendes has been dating fellow singer-songwriter Camila Cabello. The pair had been long time friends after they met on a tour they were both opening acts for in 2014. They both denied dating rumors for years, rumors that only grew when they collaborated on their song “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, before entering into a romantic relationship after their work on their collaboration “Señorita” in 2019. Since then, they have moved in together and split their time between Camila’s family home in Miami, Florida and their home in Los Angeles.
