The Pauline Kael quote under the heading "Reception" is amusing and addresses some long-held complaints about Kracauer's method. But in the interest of balance and neutrality a quotation from a countering viewpoint, or at least provision of the context of the Kael quote, should be supplied. The Kael quote should be removed, since it doesn't address provide insight into reception, but rather just records a snarky comment a journalist made at some point in time. There are, if Google Scholar is to be believed, 1,000s of scholarly references and comments upon his work, including many important criticisms (some quite harsh). I re-edited the reception around the Kael comment, but a more relevant criticism could be summoned to replace the Kael comment. I'm following up on an earlier. Previously I removed the Kael quote and added more relevantscientific/academic comments on Kracauer's work, on the grounds that a witty comment by a journalist didn't speak to the context, significance or earnest criticisms associated with Kracauer's work. When I did so, someone reverted that edit as being biased. I found another way to update it, leaving the Kael in, but I still think there the Kael quote is out of place. If there are not objections, I may remove the Kael quote again soon. If I can find a better critique of Kracauer I'll put that in. However alternate suggestions would also be helpful.
