Status in 1969

From this 1969 map

  • Route 66, US 71, Route 171 (probably split at Old 66 Boulevard west of CR-180), Route 96 through Joplin and Webb City to west of Springfield (unclear if it joined I-44 via Route 96 or Route 266 - definitely Route 96 on 1969 USGS)
  • I-44 at Springfield
  • I-44 at Lebanon
  • I-44 at Rolla
  • Route 366, Route 30 and I-55 into Illinois (I-44 was not built yet)

So it's likely that when US 66 was decommissioned in Missouri in 1979 (to US 71) and 1985 (the rest of the way), it was only separate from I-44 west of Springfield. [1] says that it actually used Route 66 all the way to I-44 east of Joplin. Anyone know for sure? --SPUI (T - C - RFC) 08:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some history

Signed routes in Missouri

In addition to the main route, the following routes are signed with years specified:

    U.S. Route 66 Alternate

  • 1926-1928 from Division/Glenstone in Springfield to Route 125/OO in Strafford
