Shoud this page not be integrated with webserial, since they are both the same kind of things, one is video and the other is about text/comics Serton (talk) 12:59, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, I think they are clearly separate art forms. That would be like saying that comic books and television shows are the same thing because they are serialized. Billbowery (talk) 04:37, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Web series vs Podcast

I think podcasts and web series are pretty much the same thing, except that the term "podcast" has a specific origin from being distributed to iTunes/iPod users. But they both are the same thing: audio/video series in an episodic format that is distributed on or through the Web/Internet. Should this article be used to refer to web series which are scripted/dramatic in content, while podcasts refer to the larger medium of both scripted and non-scripted syndicated audio/video online-distributed series?

History section too dense?

While fixing a typo (which I'm only 99% sure I did correctly), I spent some time parsing through the History section. From my outsider perspective, it comes across as very dense and hard to follow. There are a ton of links to many, many IPs. If no one else finds this to be a problem, I can accept it being just me. I'm thinking some kind of Cleanup tag would be appropriate, but I wasn't 100% sure. CaptainAngus (talk) 02:48, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free! I think part of the reason it feels dense is probably because of that merger I did last year (getting rid of that wretched "web television" page). So, I apologize in advance for that... Anyway, it probably should be updated, but I'm too stretched thin with other commitments to do anything. In fact, this year, I'm planning to scale back being on Wikipedia a bit, at least for a while. --Historyday01 (talk) 03:08, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Web series vs streaming series

Ohnoitsjamie and M.parvage, can we come to an agreement? I actually read page 186 of the source provided by Parvage, I wonder if Ohnoitsjamie has, and has an answer. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:00, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that a streaming series are on streaming services, but web series are elsewhere, like on YouTube? I don't know, its very close distinction between each of them. Historyday01 (talk) 14:24, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That source suggests that there isn't a clear distinction, and as to whether or not a show is a web series or streaming series depends on who you ask (marketing department or someone else). Here's the text I was able to read from that source:

Television or Web Series? Many traditional producers are creating content on the streaming networks. Shows such as House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, 11/22/63, and Betas are all original shows on the streaming outlets. Because the shows are delivered via streaming applications, they are technically web series, but are called television by the creators. We believe this is more of a philosophical question than technical. It's possible that people consider web series "free," whereas television is considered a subscription service or supported by commercials. The differentiation is now new--"It's not television, it's HBO" is a term coined by the premium service. In this frame, it means that original streaming series are just that, Original Streaming Series, a new hybrid of television and web series.

When there is ambiguity as to how a term is defined, Wikipedia presents both perspectives and doesn't try to decide which one is "correct," which is why I objected to the phrase "common misconception." OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:57, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the source should stay, and the wording changed. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:39, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yet another source to support my claims. Starts from page 79. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:27, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
