Replaceable fair use File:Cynar bottles.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Cynar bottles.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to
    Di-replaceable fair use disputed
    |<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 09:24, 2 August 2022 (UTC)

Ah, okay. As the article says, it's an informal event held in about 60 cities. One of many quirky things that happens in cities, and not even unique to New York. Not worthy of its own section in the main article on a massive and important transit system. Maybe put it in a footnote somewhere. ɱ (talk) 21:51, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Map for Template:Infobox company?

Not sure if I can add a map to Market Magic Shop and other articles using Template:Infobox company?

Not sure if there's a better infobox for shops and other non-food/drink small businesses like record shops and similar retail outlets?

---Another Believer (Talk) 20:43, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Hey and thanks. I don't believe there's a better infobox for retail versus companies... There are multiple grey lines from a mom-and-pop-shop all the way to Amazon Slime. I could be wrong, but I think many Wikipedians might be averse to creating mappability for {{Infobox company}} as, for 90% of notable companies, their location isn't open to the public, worthy to visit, etc., or they have multiple locations/facilities (I don't think a pinpoint on a map of Seattle would help the Amazon article!). I would suggest for the few companies that are single notable shops/retail, embed in something like Infobox building, which will also give you parameters for the building the shop is in; some of those details could be pertinent as well. ɱ (talk) 02:05, 25 October 2022 (UTC)

Infobox alignment

In response to your edit and comment on the Pittsburgh Union Station page, I thought it would be good to inform you that when using visual editor, it defaults to removing the alignment spaces. If you prefer them and wish to add them back, you may, just keep in mind that they will be eliminated every time someone modifies the infobox using the Visual Editor and they will not know that it's been done. restaurants

MJ, I don't understand the hostility. I am extremely interested in adding notable restaurants and other food related subjects to the project. I have added multiple ones myself, plus local markets and chefs -- including Seattle's Jules Maes Saloon, History of Pike Place Market, Makini Howell and Portland's Sarah Minnick. If you add in dishes and ingredients and cookbooks, I wouldn't be surprised to learn I've created articles for 100+ food/foodservice subjects. Valereee (talk) 11:57, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

@Valereee: I've been in Another Believer's shoes so many times. I've been attacked across many of my works before, sometimes with hostility and a complete lack of sensitivity. Generally anything you do to address it here on-wiki is frustrating and only makes issues worse. I can completely understand, then, why AB is requesting (multiple times too) to have some space and leave this oversight to a much later date and without the party of hounds. There is no deadline on Wikipedia. And thus your decision to continue this tirade now is personally upsetting. ɱ (talk) 13:38, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
MJ, but instead of fixing the problems from the earlier articles, AB is continuing to create more of the same. If they really want space, why aren't they using that space to go fix the articles people were objecting to two months ago? Seattle Coffee Works was created three days ago and currently has what looks to be 44 bare mentions as sources, and AB refuses to tell us if any of them are good enough to support a claim to notability. Why not just use the time spent refbombing to simply point out the sources that support a claim to notability? If they're there, it makes no sense to refuse to tell us which they are. It would end the AfD just like that; I'd withdraw it myself. If they aren't there, refbombing is an excellent strategy for gaming the system. It's very troubling. Valereee (talk) 13:58, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
AB doesn't automatically operate in ways you might assume would be the path forward. There's no standard guideline for how to recover from this, and if it's just to carry on, so be it. I agree that he should revisit those articles, but we don't control each other's actions. ɱ (talk) 14:30, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
We don't control other peoples' actions, but we can object to those actions when they waste everyone else's time and especially when someone continues the behavior after people have already objected. If AB would stop creating badly-sourced articles, I'd stop objecting to them. I'm not sure why that makes me the villain, here. Valereee (talk) 14:49, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
"If they really want space, why aren't they using that space to go fix the articles people were objecting to two months ago?" Seriously? I've promoted Bailey's Taproom and Bluehour to Good article status, and Bit House Saloon is about to be promoted as well. I'm also looking to promote Wong's King to GA status. It is ridiculous to say I am not working to improve articles which have been flagged recently. I don't understand the point of all the hounding. Please just leave me alone. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:52, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
AB, this has been mentioned elsewhere, but a GA review doesn't actually check notability. A GA means you've written a good article. I am not going to go try to figure out if the sources at those two articles support notability as they have 48 and 84 citations respectively, but I'd be happy to if you'd point me at what you believe are the three best. But GA doesn't confirm or confer notability. I'm not saying you aren't working to improve these articles; clearly you are working to turn them into GAs. What I'm saying is that you may not have fixed the notability issues, and you're continuing to write articles with the same issues, and you're absolutely refusing to point us to sources that support notability.
You're putting me into a difficult position. I work in this area, it's my primary area. I feel like I can't just look the other way. I decline to accept articles regularly for this exact issue at AfC, and the question I ask there every time is, "Which are the three best sources?"
I feel like I'm giving you special treatment if I just ignore what would prevent me from accepting an article at AfC. I don't feel like I can just leave it alone to keep happening over and over. I'm sorry that it makes you feel hounded. If you'd just answer the question of which of dozens of articles supports notability, I'd be happy to assess them. But I don't think it's my responsibility to assess 84 articles, and I really feel it's a bit unfair of you to keep creating articles with 84 sources, none of which seem to provide clearly adequate sourcing, refusing to tells us which ones you believe support notability, and then accusing others of hounding for bringing that up. It just would be so easy if you'd just tell me which articles you think I should look at and it turned out that indeed they were sufficient. Valereee (talk) 20:04, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

I put that sentence there in the first place many years ago, but since, another page started that discusses Grand Central's art installations in detail. This is somewhat of a sequel to last year's Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Brunch in terms of the participants, though this time it is an evening event in a different borough.

We may leaven the event with a few impromptu lightning talks, a Wiki-fashion show (yes, really!), and likely an afterparty tour.

All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition, to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if appropriate.

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
(Convene 101 Park Avenue, near Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal)

input

Hey, MJ! I'm working on the redlinks at

User:Valereee/Corinne's Place, and it's less clear. In your opinion is this award itself enough to get the restaurant over the hump? It seems clearly notable within the Camden/Philadelphia area and within the state. (TPS feel free to comment and/or edit that draft.) Thanks for any input you can give! Valereee (talk
) 17:05, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Valereee, and thanks for inquiring my opinion. Within my restaurant industry experience, a ton of weight was given to the Outstanding Chef, Outstanding Restaurant, Best Chef-XYZ Area, and best bar or wine program awards. I have been working in restaurants that compete to be best; the Classics award (which I hadn't heard of until today) seems to more indicate a restaurant that has become a cultural institution of its area. I would bet that each of these have substantial local media coverage, and tied with this national award, would indicate enough notability for my standards. I believe recent AfDs have indicated however that these restaurants also need a depth of coverage, which seems to be a case-by-case issue. I can help work on the Corinne's Place article in the next week or so, always happy to collaborate on articles. ɱ (talk) 17:28, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
It's kind of an interesting phenomena. So far all the ones I've tried to work on are at least closing in on provable notability before they were selected (or I suspect they wouldn't have been selected) and for me the award probably pushes them over the hump. But as you say, even within the industry this particular award is overlooked because of the awards that have semifinalist/finalist announcements to build things up. But this one...it's not only a black-owned business but it's in a poor neighborhood of a poor town not far from several cities with huge restaurant profiles. Not to mention in a state not known for its restaurants. :D Valereee (talk) 17:42, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
I appreciate the efforts to bump up what otherwise is overlooked. In my historical/architectural efforts, I can see plenty of white wealthy historic districts being given all the show while the African American neighborhoods have hardly any focus at all. ɱ (talk) 17:56, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Accusations of racism

Your accusations of racism against anyone who disagrees with you about the naming of wikipedia article about ships is an unpleasant and severe personal attack which poisons the discussion. Please withdraw your attacks.Nigel Ish (talk) 06:56, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Ditto, came here to say the same thing. It's both a vile and unnecessary insult to lob at people you know absolutely nothing about. You should remove it. - wolf 07:13, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Lead suggestions

Hi @! I hope you're enjoying your Sunday. In the spirit of constructive collaboration, I drafted a lead expansion and would be happy to share it with you. However, I wanted to check in with you first before I send so as not seem too imposing. It should hopefully clarify my original lead suggestions from the review, which you can amend/edit to your liking. Let me know and I'll gladly email it to you! :-) Ppt91talk 17:50, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

Happy to read and make use of it, thanks! I haven't really tackled that, the lead is always the hardest for me to write; adequately summarizing all the text below. ɱ (talk) 17:52, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
Great, will send shortly via email using the address from your userpage (WP emailing sometimes malfunctions for me) Ppt91talk 18:33, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
