Philip the Arab

According to Bowersock, Roman Arabia, p.122 : "Philip was an Arab from the city Shahbaa, at the edge of the Leja's near the western slopes of the Jebel Druuz"

And the Wiki article claims that the Syrian emperor was called "Arab" because he was born in the Roman province only. Irfan Shahid also supports that the man was of Arabian background. (and some others)GoulGoul1 (talk) 21:13, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

2 DYKs??

Ni'ilya and Al-Sawafir al-Gharbiyya both qualifies as DYKs presently, however, they both still have the Coord missing...If you could fix that, and possibly nominate them, it would be great. Say, "Did you know.... that the depopulated Palestinian villages of Ni'ilya and Al-Sawafir al-Gharbiyya both were mentioned in the 1596 Ottoman dafter?" Huldra (talk) 22:08, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for expanding these @Huldra:. Just nominated them, but I'm not too confident about the hook. If you think of any alternatives, let me know. Cheers --Al Ameer (talk) 23:55, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Ok, do you know the longitude and latitude of these villages? Huldra (talk) 23:59, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Ramadan al-Shallash and copyedits

Hello, it is good to see expansion has started on

@MPS1992: That would be great. I got way off track, as I'm wont to do, but decided to tackle this draft now because al-Kharrat is slated to appear on the Main Page soon. I'm about to expand it considerably in the coming hour. Please feel free to copyedit whenever you like. Cheers! --Al Ameer (talk) 20:53, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Request!

Hello Al Ameer son, can you improve the introduction of Arabs article, I've added the sources for the ethnic group, but the introduction need to be improved. Regards--Marlo Jonesa (talk) 03:09, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

@Marlo Jonesa: I fixed some of the grammar and flow, but a good lead needs to reflect the body of the article. Since—last I checked—the body is in bad shape, the lead won't be much better. Eventually, all citations should be moved to the body, not the lead. But that can be implemented later. Cheers --Al Ameer (talk) 17:37, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
Great changes, thanks!. In fact the entire article needs extensive work, I'll work on it with time. Regards--Marlo Jonesa (talk) 09:02, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
There is a problem on a template [disputed – discuss] can you explain this in the talk and there also GoulGoul1 doesn't stop messing like sock puppetry.--Marlo Jonesa (talk) 05:06, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Very funny Hailes. Last time I checked, you're the one who has multiple accounts who were banned for not knowing how to behave. I don't remember ever attacking the Arabs article with any heavy editing like you do. My only complaints are in sentences, so if I were you, I would think several times before trying to "accuse" me of anything. Meanwhile, you were never able to give any reasonable answer to any of my questions. GoulGoul1 (talk) 22:16, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, this article was nominated for DYK but the page creator has not edited on Wikipedia since. I just had a couple of questions before passing it, and wonder if you could help? We could add you to the creation credits if you like. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:21, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

@Yoninah: Having reviewed the nomination page, I'm not sure I'd be of much help, unfortunately. A few of the sources seem unreliable or dead links (#14, #20), and many are Arabic-script sources, where I'd be useless. Maybe @Mhhossein: would be better able to help. --Al Ameer (talk) 17:10, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Asmaa Mahfouz

Hello

James suggested your name when I called for help :)

I will be launching on the 20th a m:16 African Women Translate-a-thon. I am currently trying to make sure that biographies listed there are in their best shape in the English version so that it can be used as "master" for the translations. In one case, the Arabic version is better than the English one so I am looking for help to get the content from the Arabic version used to improve the English version. The article concerned is Asmaa Mahfouz. Can you help us here ? Thanks Anthere (talk)

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:23, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
