Need advice for possible NOTHERE editor

Baseballfan1948 has been around for awhile mostly editing very minor league baseball and basketball team articles. I don't know much about baseball, but many of the semi-pro basketball team articles they create are borderline GNG to well below GNG, and many have expressed the same with similar noms and prods as seen at User talk:Baseballfan1948 (and probably also User talk:Syracusestorm based on edit history). Recently, they have been making undiscussed page moves (like this) or creations that I expressly said would be taken care of (this was originally an copy-paste page move over a future name redirect before a history merge after I said to wait until the season ended on their talk page). To date, they have never made a talk page edit or wikiproject edit. Their edit summaries are almost always "updated". I like that they pay attention to the small leagues that others do not update or do not have time to frequently check (such as myself), but I want them to collaborate instead of ignore. I don't like losing an editor that could help, but if they won't try to learn or work with anyone else, when do they become "disruptive"? Any ideas on the best path forward? Yosemiter: I left a comment there. I generally don't follow G League too much. My beef there previously was the weird (2019–) disambiguator, so I boldly dropped it altogether, but someone could have argued (2019–present) if they wanted. —Bagumba (talk) 23:48, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Breonna Taylor Page

Bagumba, you cannot remove the fact that Kenneth Walker initially told the police Breonna shot at the police when initially being arrested and then add a Vice article about the witness changing his mind a week after endless publicity of the event and death threats he received to change his reporting of the event. In a trial law or any judicial system, witnesses cannot simply change their recounting of events when it's convenient for them, which is clear as day in this case. So I wonder unless you want to push a POV why you would decide it's not relevant to include the fact Walker lied to the police and blamed Breonna for the shooting but it's relevant to mention the neighbor changed his mind a week after everything. It seems as if only things that push blame or fault on the police are allowed onto the article.

I don't see anyway in which that article can be written from a neutral perspective. Miami being the first superteam is simply inaccurate and the article is entirely anti-LeBron James propaganda. IP 172.4.55.154 et al

Hi Bagumba,

The IP editor you messaged re incorrect information here, has been using several IPs, that all geolocate to Fullerton, in California USA, to add unsourced and incorrect information all over the place.
• I have twice reverted the false assertion that face masks were required to attend the Sydney Royal Easter Show, added twice by different IPs, see here. They have added similar/related COVID-19 information to several articles. They also frequently change, (or add without a cite) that an event was cancelled to "on hiatus".

I gave them an im4 lvl block warning after reverting their false information at the Easter show, it's just above your warning. After that I've been reverting their unsourced edits on sight.

They've been doing this since at least June last year.
IPs used include:

- Which is continuing to make apparently unsourced changes to basketball pages.
- Also adding likely trivia to USA phone area code pages.

I'm wondering if there is a known vandal linked to this Fullerton city?
Needs an IP range block perhaps?

Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye out for any more silliness. Personally I think they'll continue, they've been warned many times. Mostert's Mill

I've reverted your removal of the bold link at Template:ITN. Firstly, both articles were nominated, initially separately, later combined into one nomination. Both articles had to meet the criteria to be posted, and both were bolded when posted. Mostert's Mill was the only traditional windmill in working order in the whole of Africa, as well as the oldest surviving. Reduce protection level of Kevin Durant article

On July 10, 2017, you indefinitely extended-protected the Kevin Durant article. At the time, Durant was "in the news regarding a reported signing" and some users were adding unsourced content regarding the reported signing.

As of now (May 7, 2021) the article has been extended-protected for nearly four years, and has experienced zero vandalism. The protection should be lowered to semi. Most high-profile NBA players' articles are semi-protected and I cannot find any other basketball player with an extended-protected article. Crossover1370 (talk | contribs) 19:15, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

You know if there is a way to make it so that the Ohio State’s Gray is still used in the infobox but not the navigation boxes? LeBron James

Is he legitimately a point guard, as it says in his infobox? I know he handles the ball a lot but he pretty much always has a traditional PG in the starting lineup with him (currently Schroder). This feels like another Magic JOhnson situation where their primary position should be listed, not other positions they sometimes slide into because the player is versatile. I didn't even notice it was added. B-r.com has listed him as a PG the last 2 years, but they're not always perfect IMO, but it is source at least. Last year is harder for me to dispute because they only had Rondo as a backup, and he led league in assists. Thing is, the league is going more position-less, so it's all kinda silly, but players are still "assigned" a position. Re: PG, people focus on offense, when LeBron and Magic rarely guard the opposing PG. I know you usually go by what their current team lists, so that would be F for James. And there's no "real" point forward as a listed position. You can try removing PG and see what happens, starting a discussion later if need be.—Bagumba (talk) 18:30, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

To @Bagumba: This is JEB1995. I've received a notification with someone mentioning my username. If I have caused any trouble, I certainly didn't mean to and I apologize. I've edited NBA teams season pages on Wikipedia before by adding extra information, and facts from other websites. I also used to add links to several websites. I have been blocked a few times, the rules on this site are very confusing and complicated. I asked for a request to create an account, I've never been signed into Wikipedia before, I had always edited without signing up. When I edit NBA teams season pages, I add information about player trades, free agent signings, schedule results, player stats, etc. There are some NBA team season pages that don't have much information at all on Wikipedia. I also change team roster colors to match their logos, uniforms and court designs from their respective seasons. If you think I'm editing too much in one day, I'll slow down. Like I said, I do NOT mean to break any rules or cause any trouble. If you're thinking about blocking me, please send me a warning first, I'd really appreciate it.

However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. I am not going to file an WP:SPI, because the editor made more than 300 edits (and I am certainly not going through all of them) in a span of three days and all of them are NBA-related. It is very strange that a completely new editor would go straight to editing NBA team season pages, which just shows that it is someone who is already blocked and knows what to do. The last blocked sockpuppet (1LazerZ) popped up four days after the block (StaxW1), and this one (JEB1995) popped up two days after the block (1LazerZ). – 06:30, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

My feeling is it would be best to block and request a CU. As I recall - and it's been a while - I didn't turn up other accounts, but I did find ranges to block. It looks to me like you've been blocking a number of accounts (no doubt because you look at more articles that the socks like to edit) without tags outside of SPI. On the one hand, I understand not giving the master undue recognition, but, OTOH, it does help at times identify socks by checking the master for tagged socks (as opposed to having the name of the master in the block log, as you've - and I many times in the past - have done). In any event, hopefully we will achieve what we want without you having to file a report. The only thing I'd appreciate your doing, because you know so much more about the sport than I, is to review the sock's edits to see if they need reverting. Can you tell me what's really going on? My past experience is that when someone brings up arguments that are not supported by the facts, it is pointless to respond to the argument, because there's really something else going on. I would hope that you and I have a shared goal — improving basketball related articles, so I'm not sure I am understanding your reaction. Have we interacted in the past? Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
