Did you know nomination of Franco-German University

Thank you for your nomination of the Franco-German University article. Could you please review the outstanding issues at the nomination page? Thank you. Moonraker (talk) 01:51, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Names of non-English-speaking universities

I noticed your move of

University of Education Ludwigsburg, with the edit summary "more appropriate translation". We should not be naming pages in that way, we should follow the policy at Wikipedia:Article titles
. That says, for instance, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources. This includes usage in the sources used as references for the article." (In this case there are no sources used as references, as pointed out by a hatnote.)

I had to face up to this problem not long ago when I created the page Orange College of Breda, about a college with a bewildering variety of names, and I know it's far from easy, but we should at least do a check on the English-language reliable sources, rather than just making a translation. In this case, there certainly are some hits for "University of Education Ludwigsburg", although I think more for "University of Education, Ludwigsburg", which follows the English-language pattern of using commas in a proper noun like this. In many cases, the common name in English is easy to find, and rather often it does not translate the name in the foreign language. Moonraker (talk) 05:48, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Okay, but the principle of "
ab uno disce omnes" can't really be applied in this context. I found and added some reliable English-language sources for the page, and as they were using Ludwigsburg University of Education I moved it to that. Moonraker (talk

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

I see you recently accepted pending changes to August 7, October 7, December 29, and February 13 that did not include any direct sources.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from

. All new additions without references are now being either reverted on-sight or in some cases where the patroller is especially motivated, immediately sourced. I've gone ahead and un-accepted all those edits and backed them out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, please do not accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The

burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you and please keep up your good work! Toddst1 (talk

History of a move

Hi again. I'm looking into the history of a move [1]. Wondering if there was an official request, or if the editor just unilaterally made a highly controversial move - I've recently discovered other mass deletes/POV issues at

Kirti Monastery by the same editor. While trying to return the page to its previous title via another request for move, the diff info was just discovered. (FYI, I just put in a request for aid at Teahouse, but since we've pinged, I thought to ask.) Thanks. Pasdecomplot (talk

boldly, or it might be best to settle it with a formal requested move. BegbertBiggs (talk
) 23:09, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
Since the earlier move was highly controversial and without CON, I would think reverting the move is more appropriate. Then, a proper move request can be submitted if a controversy ensues.
Not sure about the technique for the bold option - is there a link to the process about redirects? There's the page title change at Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, and the revert of the redirect from '11th Panchen Lama' to '11th Panchen Lama controversy'. Pasdecomplot (talk) 13:42, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
@Pasdecomplot: You should be able to move the page back here — just fill in your reasoning and click "move page". As for Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, I see you've already initiated the RM in the proper way. BegbertBiggs (talk) 13:59, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Is the process for redirects different than a move? As in, stopping all redirects for '11th Panchen Lama' to the '11th Panchen Lama controversy' page. Pasdecomplot (talk) 22:10, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
@Pasdecomplot: By moving the page with the link I put above that redirect will automatically be deleted and replaced. BegbertBiggs (talk) 22:16, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
again, apologies for the quagmire. Reminiscent of a shadow! Regards. Pasdecomplot (talk) 12:50, 2 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi! Regarding this RM, it's now been almost a month with no interest whatsoever from anyone but me, so I think there's probably no problem with me unilaterally implementing the changes proposed (or whichever ones I see fit), as long as the RM has been formally closed as "unopposed" or some such. Would you mind doing that? I considered taking it to ANRFC (actually I've been considering this for about two weeks), but the formatting there seems to have changed since the last time I used it, and can't for the life of me figure out what I'm supposed to do. Page mover granted

Hello, BegbertBiggs. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Changes to Connect on July 10, 2020

Hi! I'm am writing about the page move for Connect insurance company. I understand the need to remove the all capitalization treatment because it is for style, but I am hoping we can change the name back to the full trademarked name: Connect, powered by American Family Insurance

This is for several reasons: 1. It is the fully trademarked name of the company. Trademark info here. 2. There are other Connect insurance companies, and it could cause confusion between the two.

Is that enough to move the name back to: Connect, powered by American Family Insurance — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brenda haines (talkcontribs) 16:20, 16 March 2021 (UTC) Brenda haines (talk) 17:00, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Brenda haines (talk) 15:18, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

@Brenda haines: The RM discussion was pretty clear that the previous title was overly promotional. Note that trademarks are irrelevant to Wikipedia article titles. No other insurance company with that name has a Wikipedia article written about it (as far as I can tell) so it's not really ambiguous either. BegbertBiggs (talk) 16:56, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
@BegbertBiggs:Thanks for the clarification. Brenda haines (talk) 17:39, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
@BegbertBiggs:I have opened a review of the move. After reviewing the talk on the initial review it feels like the majority of the support to have it moved was subjective and not backed by reasoning, but instead because the title was ugly or did not match another company's. If more sources are needed to support the full name, those can be provided. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brenda haines (talkcontribs) 19:08, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
