Deletion candidate image: Occupy Wall Street

This image I uploaded is indeed the original poster for the Occupy Wall Street event. I was first created and published by Adbusters magazine, and has been widely distributed ever since. It is not an image of my creation. —Scoutstr295 14:49, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

I never said it was your creation, but it looks like an image created by some user and uploaded to the internet. If it was published by Adbusters, then that needs to be cited somehow, but I couldn't find that image anywhere on the internet or otherwise. –Dream out loud (talk) 21:19, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Re:SEPTA and substandard articles

Laid out, SEPTA, like the company we're writing about, has the worst articles I've seen of any public transportation system on Wikipedia. I've been working to turn NJ Transit (and to some degree) Metro-North and doing the research. Under my Erie Railroad research, which is more than just Wikipedia research, I've designated stations as "Case studies" on several criteria: History, Design, Years Existing, Community Changes, etc. Those are stations I work on cause I do the research. The sources are out there for most stations, you have just got to find them. :)

Now towards the station choices at hand. One thing to consider is that SEPTA doesn't exactly produce the best stations. I chose Cheltenham and West Trenton because they may not be major stations, but the history is long enough for both that they can sustain good articles. Marcus Hook I suggested because it is a major station on the R2 Newark. Cheltenham is personally my favorite of my choices because I did start working in the research department. Personally as an editor, I don't like the status quo stations like 30th Street or Market East. I like the suburban communities and their workings. As for the decommissioned stations, Nicetown and Shawmont are the top on my list.

In honesty, if we want any progress, I would seriously consider a

WP:TRAIN/Philadelphia Public Transportation task force like we have up in New York. This needs to cover PATCO, SEPTA, NJ Transit's RIVER Line and the A.C. Line along with the Seashore Line. We should consider it. My thoughts.Mitch32(Can someone turn on the damn air conditioning?

You clearly did not look at the entire page. The copyright at the bottom says "© 2011 Atlantic City Hilton", under social networking it says "The Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort on Facebook", and the page title in the browser reads "Atlantic City Hilton". You need to be
consensus on this just as any editors would do in this situation. Forcibly arguing your point and reverting does not help. –Dream out loud (talk

WP:Weasel words

Hello, Dream out loud. Regarding this edit by you, some of these words are not weasel words...and the others are clearly attributed. The comparison to the

O. J. Simpson murder trial
, for example? This is backed up by several reliable sources. I shouldn't have to name each and every one of the individuals who have compared this trial to the O. J. Simpson case, especially since it's too many to name (including the general public). The references do the talking for us; I certainly didn't add all of them for fun. And as for using the words "some," "most" and "others," it's the same thing. We cannot name every person. This is why Wikipedia does not say that the words "some" or "most" should never be used. Per WP:Weasel words, it says when they are used, "Claims about what people say, think, feel, or believe, and what has been shown, demonstrated, or proven should be clearly attributed." All of these things are clearly attributed. They are in the references, for anyone to check.

Strange thing is...I recently had a discussion on my talk page where myself and another editor are explaining weasel words and editorializing to someone else.

Concur - great image for the lede. Dream out loud, are you aware of any photos of Casey Anthony sitting in court during the trial that are in the public domain? Well there are tons of images of Casey and Caylee that are in the public domain. Unfortunately, the image I uploaded has been nominated for deletion because it was released in the public domain by the Florida State's Attorney Office and some users at Commons say that that office "has no right" to put those photos in public domain. –Dream out loud (talk) 04:50, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Caylee article "enhancements"

You tried to discuss this on a Project page and apparently our discussion was forked elsewhere? It may not be important.

My point was that if comparison with OJ was allowable, it would be because someone scholarly had "done a study" and people were asked to rank OJ vs Caylee, (or whatever passes the researchers criteria in college/think tank), then and only then, can that be "compared." Lesser criteria might be allowable in other cases. Asia does appear larger than North America!  :)

Hot Press review for Achtung Baby

I see your point about the review score not showing up on the archived copy of the article at Hot Press' website. However, I provided the link to the archived copy really only as a convenience link so the reader may consult the text of the article. I still believe a score was included as part of the original published review (see the atU2 archived copy of the article here). And I agree the x/12 review scale is kind of odd, but it's apparently been in use for a while (see Boy, The Unforgettable Fire, Passengers, The Best of 80-90, and Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack). I doubt these scores would have been fabricated and added to all these atU2-archived review articles, too, so I would tend to believe the Achtung Baby score just isn't included in the Hot Press article archives. I do not understand, why this photo was immediately deleted without any prior discussion. It was a photo of a huge poster, which in the year 2006 was positioned on public ground in New York city in front of the ground zero site. It was most likely produced by or at least on behalf of the government and its public exhibition was apparently authorized by the goverment. No source and copyright information were found on or near the poster. How do you know that this map is copyrighted? A discussion was not necessary because the image was a copyright violation. All creative works are copyrighted, regardless of whether or not copyright information is displayed. For example, if you create an original painting, it is copyrighted by you. There's not need to display copyright info. Unless you explicitly state that your painting is in public domain, then it is subject to copyright. I am guessing that the map was created by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is not a government agency, but government-created works are still subject to copyright, unless it was produced by the federal government (see WP:Copyrights#Governing copyright law). I don't know what you mean by "the government". New York City government? New York state government? U.S. federal government? If it is a federal government-created work, then there needs to be a link or some kind of proof that it was created by the federal government. If it was created by another government, then it is only free if they explicitly stated it somehow. Otherwise, the map was not free. No, I couldn't find a better link, the page seems broken to me or already link rotten, I could only access the image through a direct link. It's fair use either way, so I don't see much of a problem or a need to verify how restrictive the copyright is. And sorry, no, I don't feel like being less sarcastic when dealing with copyright paranoia issues. Maybe somebody who understands our byzantine fair use policies can feel the rationale better. rugrats image

Hey there. I'm not 100% sure if you will be able to get hold of an image, but I managed to get an image released by Six Entertainment for The Human Centipede (First Sequence) by e-mailing the producer of the film and explaining how there was a chance that the article might be on the front page, and how it would be really helpful if they could kindly release an image under a free license. I made sure I mentioned how many page views the main page gets each day and how much exposure the article would get from a main page appearance. I also politely pointed out that releasing a low resolution image (such as in your case File:Rugrats Chanukah.jpg) will not harm their commercial interests, but will massively benefit the article and also make it more likely that the article does make it to the main page.

I had a look online and the best e-mail address I could find was [email protected], it can't hurt to fire an e-mail off to that address. At the very least they might be able to give you the correct e-mail address. There are some good tips on how to request permission for images to be released at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. It would be cool if the article could get onto the main page. I think it would get a lot of readers and it would be effective in teaching non-jewish readers a great deal about Chanukah too. Good luck with the nomination! L.A Metro

When the heck did Metro change the names of these stations? Is there a press release or something? Personally, I enjoyed the awkwardness of referring to the station as imperial/Wilmington/Rosa Parks. List of SEPTA Regional Rail stations

I see that you're working on a List of SEPTA Regional Rail stations. I just started working on my own this week, and it includes parameters of the List of Metro-North Railroad stations. Perhaps we should combine elements from each others lists. I've also got other lists planned for SEPTA rapid transit and trolley stations. Airport names

More discussion on airport names. I am contacting you, and all past participants in recent discussions on this issue, because there is now a new RFC.

WP:HYPHEN says that proper names get hyphens, like Jones-Smith (or, as the example says "John Lennard-Jones". Are airport names any different? If I take a bicycle trip from Paris to Orly and write an article about it, or someone else does, it would correctly be called Paris–Orly trip with an en dash and trip not capitalized. But if I create a bicycle and call it the Paris-Orly Flyer that becomes a proper name and is capitalized. Is not the same true for airport names? WP:HYPHEN
says this:

"Hyphenation also occurs in bird names such as Great Black-backed Gull, and in proper names such as Great Black-backed Gull and Wilkes-Barre."

Some proper names "get hyphens", but that does not mean no proper name gets an en dash. "Are airport names any different?" Any different from what, exactly? From the default naming assumption that is mentioned at
WP:DASH
? That is the question facing the RFC to which you refer. An especially ill-posed one, in my opinion, with poor structure and unsupported preliminary assumptions.

SEPTA station lists

How is the source for

List of SEPTA Rapid transit stations unreliable? It shows the extended name right there. Also I tried to find the 2nd Street-Penn's Landing, but Google Maps doesn't have that name anymore. I also see you decided to add your version of the List of SEPTA Regional Rail stations, and I was hoping you'd get back to me on combining the elements of your version and mine. I like your coverage of the old "R" designations, but I also like my coverage of former railroads and slight histories. ---------User:DanTD (talk

A photograph from a fan site is by no means a reliable source. That would be equal to you taking a picture of something, uploading it to the internet, and citing it. It's a form of
WP:RS. On another note, you need to add citations to your lists in general. Creating an entire list article without citations is entirely inappropriate, especially for an editor who has been on this site for over six years. As far as the Regional Rail station list that you created, I don't see what information there needs to be added to the one I made. A "notes" column really doesn't have a place in a list like this. Trivial information should to left to the article itself and not to a list of stations, since there is no limit to what kind of information could be added there. Anything additional important information can be added using footnotes, which I have done. –Dream out loud (talk

I'd say even if it is from a fansite and the evidence is clear, it should be enough. With citations, I take what I can get, and I can't always get what I need. Regarding the regional rail list, if the info I have on my version is trivial, then so is the info from the

I modeled the list off of
featured list. For the LIRR list, it has an extra column for dates and alternative names, but not a general "notes" column. Not too many stations have had different names over the years, so it really wouldn't be necessary to add, as far as adding opening dates, this type of information would involve much research since the stations are so old, and I don't think it adds much to the list. The MBTA featured list doesn't have either of these columns. –Dream out loud (talk

Well, you have the connections list, which would've been among the general notes in my version, so I can appreciate that. I kind of wish you could've replied to me on this earlier. How do you feel about adding former stations, though? The MBTA Commuter Rail stations list has a segment for future stations, and the LIRR list has one for former stations. The Metro-North list doesn't though(even though there are former stations in the post-Penn Central era), but it does have a list for former lines. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 21:58, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
I apologize for not replying to you earlier, but I haven't been editing much lately. As far as adding former stations, I think that should be a separate article. Article deletion

My article about Aaron L. Smith is deleted because of no importance about the topic? I said he was the co-founder of The Graveyard Carz TV series in the very first sentence.
