Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to

talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. I've suggested using a short form of the PMC URL at Help_talk:Citation_Style_1#pmc_broken_in_cite_journal and mentioned your name, if that is of interest. Also have sketched what I think is needed for adding GeneReview_mult at Template talk:Infobox disease, but haven't yet done any real template work, so don't know how to safely test it. I mainly fiddle with citations, using David Iberri's [Template filler (up on CPAN). It needs some work to go back up on toolserver.org, to cope with the GeneReviews PMIDs, that returns XML it doesn't parse and could do better in handling URLs passed in that needn't just generate a cite web. I wonder if there is anything relating to the vault proteins that can be updated? This seems an important area that is not fully covered.

One specific gap I have noticed (albeit a rather tedious task) is to create a section at Varicella zoster virus equivalent to Herpes_simplex_virus#Viral genome. I have seen an equivalent table in a text book, though there are more gaps in our knowledge of HZV than with HSV. I suspect that the same is true of other viruses for which we have articles.

Hi, Rich, can it really be that this entire table is maintained by hand? I was at wikimania this past summer, and there was a lot of buzz about wikidata, and I'm wondering if you're aware of any efforts to have this kind of thing be database-driven. The table is a great resource, but in the interest of the class project, I think the links to the proteins coded by the genes and their function is more relevant. I am looking at viruses, proteins and genes right now, and am very interested in making advances in the way you describe. There is work that has been done and is being done, by Protein Box Bot, RFam Bot and others (if I have the names right) but there is more to be done. I have started looking at the databases listed at http://www.oxfordjournals.org/nar/database/a/ but pointers from those working in the field would be appreciated. Hello In our molecular biology class one of the tasks is to check the box associated with the following item "✓ Add pages and files I move to my watchlist". I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I just checked again, and I see it. Did you click "My preferences", and then the "Watchlist" tab in the list of tabs under the "My preferences" heading? Did you see the other two options, "Add pages and files I edit to my watchlist" and "Add pages I create and files I upload to my watchlist"? I do see the other two options, they are the only two options available. Based on a discussion thread on my classes messageboard a couple people are having this problem. I'm assuming you're talking about the request I made here, right? That's on your talk page. I was just talking about the message that you had left immediately above my message, that starts out "Hi Hanna, Thanks for the greetings ...". If you look at it, you can see that "Hi Hanna" is indented, but "Thanks for the greetings" is not. I was just asking you to fix that. You can fix it by clicking "edit", and then making sure there's a colon in front of every line of that greeting. Hi, Rachael. The only thing I can think of is that maybe in your user preferences, you have accidentally overridden the default signature. Go to Special:Preferences and check the "Signature" area. Hi Klortho. I'm having an issue receiving email notifications and wondered what I should do. I am in Dr. Ogg's Molecular Bio class (Section 83). For the class, I have been assigned to Group 83F. On the Group 83F Talk page, I added a couple of "test" comments, however I did not receive email notifications. I double checked my Preferences and it looks like I should receive an email for anything edited for any page in my Watchlist...whether it's from me or anyone else. Do you have any advice? I was adding a message to my groups project talk page and when I went to click the save page button I noticed that were I placed my 4 tildes was an IP address and not my name. Is there anyway to edit it so that my name is displayed? I realized that I was logged out of my account, which I believe is why there is a IP address instead of my name. Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Hope all is well.

Since part of your grade depends on these contributions, what I would do is to replace the ip-address signature with a prominent note that the previous edit was actually yours, and then use the four tildes again. What you did is fine, too, but there's no reason to leave the "ip-address-signature" there. Oh, and make sure you get in the habit of hitting the "Show Preview" button before "Save", whenever you make an edit -- then this would not have happened. Klortho (talk) 11:53, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

For the merging question, see w:Merging. The nutshell version is, you should probably start a discussion about it on the NER talk page, and "tag" the TCR page with the {{Merge}} template. As far as copying tables -- I would avoid copying them verbatim. My understanding is that data is not copyrightable, but of course there is a fine line sometimes between data and text/presentation. I definitely see what you're saying. The table I'm looking at is like a review table: it has proteins+ relevant information and the papers the information came from, but the authors did not generate the data for the table. Hi Chris, I noticed today that someone outside of our group rewrote the opening paragraph of our article

This is definitely the kind of thing you can expect on Wikipedia! What you should do depends on whether or not you like his edits. If you don't like them at all, you can simply revert them, but that's considered kind-of rude. Alternatively, if you have particular things about his changes you want to discuss, you could open up a new section on the talk page.

My opinion is that, overall, his paragraph is an improvement. But he did remove some stuff from your write-up that I think was good -- "This process forms a new DNA strand complementary to the template strand and identical to the template's original partner strand", for example. I'd suggest you "roll with the changes", rather than revert. You could, for example, add a second paragraph to the introduction, and add some of the content back in that he removed. There is an oversimplification brewing in your layout on NER, namely the notion that dual incision is characteristic of NER. Mismatch Repair, a second major subpathway of NER, proceeds via a single incision step rather than a double incision step.
