full back

Nice additions to the soccer section on full back - thanks. I dabbed that in very quickly because someone had written a page that was exclusively about American football, which was obviously intolerable - but my knowledge of the modern game is about zero. It's now rather a nice page, and it would be good if we had similar comparative pages on other positions that exist in the different codes. seglea 18:48, 28 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers seglea. I agree it would be nice to have pages for the other positions. And there are a lot of sport-based pages that are very U.S.-centric; I've also been trying to broaden the scope of a few of them. --Lancevortex 12:22, 6 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I've deleted the erroneous category, by the way.

Michael Johnson (athlete)

Hi! In my opinion, the shorter versions (that is without minute and second tags) look better and are more encyclopaedian-like. If You want to revert it, then please do it. -- Gh

Hi! I keep this in mind in the future articles, but right now almost all the articles in
Olympic medalists in athletics (women) have the shorter versons. Anyway, this is probalbly one of the discussion point to decide the standard layout of times, results etc. and we should catch some more contributors of sport articles to this. -- Gh

Many thanks for catching my spelling error so quickly! I'm in the process of subcategorizing Category:English language, and I would've felt twelve kinds of stupid if I'd misspelled the category name for all the articles that will go inside it. :-) • Benc • 10:08, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

Hi. You've helped with the

User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've

WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000
Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at

Template messages/User namespace
. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the

GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Quoth: I am happy for my work (mostly spelling corrections anyway) to be used by anyone. Does using one of the templates suggested cover this?
Spelling corrections *may* not be considered to be copyrightable under U.S. law because they may be considered to be too trivial, but let's just assume that they are. Since spelling corrections are minor (not in terms of importance!), I would recommend just releasing them into the public domain, then they will be unrestricted and useable by anyone. The "MultiLicensePD" template does this. If this is not good enough for you let me know and I can suggest something else. Using one of the other templates will just restrict your contributions to two licenses instead of one license. Ram-Man (comment) (talk)[[]] 13:53, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

List of names in English with non-intuitive pronunciations

Hi Angr, just noticed that you changed the SAMPA pronunciations on List of names in English with non-intuitive pronunciations to IPA, citing Wikipedia preferences as your rationale. Could you point me in the direction of the page where this policy is outlined? I'm personally very much against this change (largely because it's a total pain to edit) and would like to argue against it -- only problem is, I can't find where the policy is defined! Thanks, Lancevortex 10:11, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

 • Hi Lancevortex, the policy is stated at

IPA notice

Exactly why are you giving so much prominence to the IPA notice - e.g. on Motörhead? Is not the (IPA) link immediately preceeding / 'məʊtəhɛd/ enough? IMO, the notice is way over the top, a completely unnecessary conceit. YMMV, of course. --Tagishsimon (talk)

Duplication in Reading article

Hi. You write:

Hi Chris, the last couple of times you've edited the Reading, Berkshire article, you've managed to introduce duplication of entire sections. I've undone this, but you may wish to check a) that your intended edits are still there and b) what's going on to make the duplication happen. --Lancevortex 10:09, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Many thamks for undoing the damage. I'm mystified as to how it happened, although in both cases I got an edit conflict dialog even though there was no sign of anyone else editing the article. I was editing a section, but the upper box that you are supposed to edit displayed the whole article. It looks as if it then inserted the content of that box into the article as if it were just a section. Hence everything but the section being edited got duplicated. I guess I'll just have to stop editing at section level. -- Chris j wood 22:46, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Help

Shot in the dark, noticed your edit on Motorhead - two Motorhead singles I fully believe deserve their own places are up for VfD (after I undid redirects from live singles to album singles, the author of the redirects immediately put both up for VfD), it'll ruin the timeline and incomplete the discography, would you help by voting to keep if you feel so inlclined.

Ahoy!

I noticed that you are the one who started the article on the

featured article
, and I definitely need your help in making it this good. I fear that my edits may have deadened the prose somewhat, and given that you have a background with the M11 protest movement, I think that you may have a lot of useful sourceable information that could make this article as great at it deserves to be. Yours, Lewis Collard! (natter) 20:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(BTW, I was way too young to be involved in the movement when I was in that area. I lived in

Hayekian
conservative (and, oddly, very sympathetic to the strong, intimate communities that I have read about in my research about Claremont Road, and think that in the truly radical left there's a conservativism waiting to get out, but that is a whole 'nother political-philosophical story...) so maybe our POVs will balance each others out a bit. :)

Hi Collard. Nice work on the article. I'm not sure how much I'm able to help. I don't have sources for what I wrote beyond my memory, and probably a lot of the stuff I put in should strictly speaking be removed as unverified. The article's still on my watchlist, and I'll continue to glance at it from time to time to check for any outrageous edits! --Lancevortex 11:18, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Delayed reply: Thanks for the compliment. If there's not a lot more you think you can do, then so be it (though your prose is still somewhat better than mine). Though I'm glad that, as original author, you approve of the latest batch of changes. :D Lewis Collard! (natter) 07:12, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion???

I am puzzled as to why you would nominate my article for speedy deletion. I have followed underground British hip-hop and grime for the last 10 years, and any artist who has won Kennet Awards, usually has huge success (eg. The Streets & Dizzee Rascal). G-Star has released 2 mixtapes (available at some HMV stores) and is shortly releasing his debut album. His 1st single went in at #49 in the UK Charts, and was considered for the Need For Speed soundtrack. What else does it take to show that this artist is famous enough to stay on Wiki? I'm unsure whether it was you or not, but the article "G-Star" has been deleted, and the last name on the log was yours.

I'd appreciate your help with this. Please reply to my talk page

I've had a look back through the original article you created way back in April 2004, and aside from a lack of references (which wasn't as important then as now), it's actually a pretty good read.
