Hi there, I just want to say thanks for helping organise and improve this article. I thought I had improved it a lot, but you've made it even better. :) Also, thanks for updating the article's Wikipedia:WikiProject BBC class, I requested it to updated a few day ago. - JuneGloom07 (talk) 18:30, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. Miranda has been commissioned for a second series, I added this information (with reliable ref) to the Reception section. However, another user moved it to the lead of the article and I was just wondering where you think it should go? - JuneGloom07 (talk) 00:23, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
DYK for Over the Rainbow (UK TV series)
Firstly, thanks for your help with the categories and Wikiprojects on this page. However, there was one thing I wanted to ask you about. You removed a section of text about the series being available to view on YouTube, and a hyperlink to the relevant video. I felt this added to the article as this is the only way a reader could watch the episodes described in the article. Is there any way I could put the link back without it being removed again (perhaps as an external link), or is there a policy I don't know about preventing this? I should also add that I have no connection to the group who uploaded the videos. Thanks. Alzarian16 (talk) 12:43, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Alzarian16, the short answer is no. The link was to footage uploaded by a fan group, who are most likely not to have permission from the copyright holder to upload the work. The relevant Wikipedia guideline is at ]
- Okay, thanks for the explanation. As for IMDb, I know it isn't generally considered reliable, but I felt it would probably be acceptable as one example of Critical Response as tit appears to be in use as such on other pages. [1] Alzarian16 (talk) 10:24, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- In the link you provided, IMDb is being used to provide general info about productions (i.e. they exist) rather than critical response. The comments cited are user-generated and are not representative or authoritative because anybody can post whatever they want (and you can always find someone who loved/hated something, so the same could be said of any production). mattbr 10:59, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Good points. I've made some changes to the article, including removing the reference, which should sort things out. Unless the new reference I've included is unreliable, which it might be based on my previous record. Alzarian16 (talk) 17:03, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- The new link seems OK (although not the best for viewing figures) and you need to be careful about interpreting what was said (there is no mention of "average" viewing figures). Also, the statement that it was "generally well received by viewers" is not supported by the reference given. I would suggest you use the new link to provide some production information as this is the primary topic of it. However, I am struggling to find other (online) references that would help develop the article. I would also recommend the use of citation templates such as {{cite web}} to provide a bit more info about the references rather that just the links. mattbr 20:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- I've rewritten the Critical Response section to be more accurate and added a section on Production, which seems to have improved matters a bit. The shortage of reliable sources is annoying: what's there already shows notability, but it's difficult to add to it. Thanks for the effort you've put into this by the way Alzarian16 (talk) 22:45, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, you've done well to find the references you have. There may be some more info in offline sources, which may be worth perusing. In the meantime, I would suggest adding an infobox ({{Infobox television}} in this case) to summarise some of the information along with the ref formatting. mattbr 17:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Mattbr. Thank you for your tweak at Benjamin Disraeli. The ref begin and end templates are unfamiliar to me. Would you be kind enough to explain to this technical simpleton what they are for? And should I always use them? Grateful for a steer. Tim riley talk 20:51, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- The {{refbegin}} and {{refend}} templates apply the same formatting as {{reflist}} to other bibliographies or reference lists, one 'opening' and one 'closing'. The Benjamin Disraeli article was already using both, but with refend placed before refbegin, meaning that refbegin was unclosed and therefore applying the reference-style formatting to the rest of the article (including the succession and navigation boxes). The use of these templates is optional and I just placed the corresponding opening and closing template to those already in use. Their use in this article seemed appropriate given the length of the lists (and their use seemed to be the previous intention), hence why I added the 'missing' templates rather that deleting the existing ones. I hope this helps, mattbr 09:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Mattbr. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
In July and August 2016,

- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that
A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi Mattbr.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at

Hello,
Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
