Donald Tusk as Prime Minister
I appreciate your good faith edit, but yes, he is. Nadzik (talk) 18:10, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Can you provide sources that say so then? I provided three in Talk:Sejm#Tusk_is_not_the_prime_minister_yet that say otherwise Max19582 (talk) 18:10, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- @WP:RSto confirm:
Mr. Tusk, a veteran centrist politician who led Poland from 2007 to 2014, is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday by President Andrzej Duda, an ally of Law and Justice.

Tusk will have to wait until Wednesday to be signed into office by President Andrzej Duda, who is a PiS appointee and has played along with the rightwing party’s stalling tactics since the elections.

Andrzej Duda accepted the resignation of the Council of Ministers submitted by Mateusz Morawiecki on December 11. The president entrusted Prime Minister Morawiecki's cabinet with continuing to perform duties until a new government is appointed - it was reported on the president's website.

- Thanks so much! Ppt91talk 23:49, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- Mentioning @Octilllion as well, as they might find it useful.
- @Ppt91 Furthermore, it seems to be an unclear situation. The government officials (including the official Sejm stenography transcripts) refer to Tusk as the Prime Minister already, but on the other hand, it does seem like he will officially become the PM after being sworn in by the president (per the discussion above).
- As far as I'm aware, it's the first time in the Third Polish Republic where the PM is appointed by the Sejm, hence the confusion.
- Max19582 (talk) 23:55, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Max19582 It definitely is confusing and I agree that some of the verbiage used in the media doesn't help to clarify this situation. Two things to your point: 1) Only the President has the constitutional capacity to officially appoint a new prime minister (barring extraordinary circumstances not relevant in this case), so their announcement, as reported by his own team (here and here) and then the Polish Press Agency as cited earlier, becomes the primary reference and supersedes any earlier reports 2) I would not generally refer to the transcripts of the Sejm proceedings, as they merely recount what had been said and can include erroneous information (like Kaczyński disgraceful yet entirely expected comment that Tusk is a German agent earlier today...). Anyway, thank you for actively monitoring the situation and contributing! Ppt91talk 00:13, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

Caps rule
Before revertin read it carefully
In generic use, apply lower case to words such as president, king, and emperor (De Gaulle was a French president; Louis XVI was a French king; Three prime ministers attended the conference). Directly juxtaposed with the person's name, such words begin with a capital letter (President Obama, not president Obama). Standard or commonly used names of an office are treated as proper names (David Cameron was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Hirohito was Emperor of Japan; Louis XVI was King of France). Royal styles are capitalized (Her Majesty; His Highness); exceptions may apply for particular offices. Egeymi (talk) 19:07, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Egeymi: Yeah - Standard or commonly used names of an office are treated as proper names (David Cameron was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Hirohito was Emperor of Japan; Louis XVI was King of France). That's also the capitalization used by the Polish government: https://www.gov.pl/web/primeminister/bartlomiej-sienkiewicz. Please refrain from reverting. Max19582 (talk) 19:09, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- It should be in capitals if Foreign Minister Thompson, but it is not in capitals if it is Thompson is foreign minister. Here we use WP rules not Polish conventions, Egeymi (talk) 19:10, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Egeymi: This is not a Polish convention, but a Wikipedia one. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biography#Positions,_offices,_and_occupational_titles provides "Richard Nixon was President of the United States" and "Theresa May became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2016" as valid examples. Important question
Why did you delete my edit about the October 15 Coalition? IgnacyPL (talk) 09:42, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- @WP:NPOV name - it's a term coined by the opposition Law and Justice party, which heavily critiques the coalition's actions. The term was coined as a reference to Martial law in Poland in 1981 and all Google searches for this exact phrasecarry a negative undertone.
- Such information can be added to Wikipedia, but its inclusion must be WP:DUE (similarly to the past issue over at Third Cabinet of Mateusz_Morawiecki; it's better to leave information about criticism for latter parts of the article, especially for a government that has high approval ratings anyway). If you'd like to make a section about either the coalition's criticism or its other names, feel free to do so! Please remember about including relevant, reliable, and mostly unbiased sources though. March 2024
- Hello, Max19582,
- A lot of page moves you did today have been reverted. Maybe start smaller, with one or two articles rather than a dozen or more. You might discuss them moves on the article talk page first. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 07:55, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Liz: Hey, thanks a lot for reaching out!
- The pages I moved were small articles, with barely any activity on them (e.g. the last edit on Wikipedia:UE, moved the articles.
- I will be bringing the proposals to the articles' talk pages soon to seek a common consensus. Max19582 (talk) 08:01, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
