Music stream question

Hi there. Thanks again for your help with the video game soundtrack article. Quick question for you. On occasion, there seems to be a disconnect between the soundtracks I can see as available for streaming and the ones you can see. I don't doubt you or anything, I wondered if it had to do with what platform you were using, or what region you're from. I'm from the US, and I have an Apple Music subscription. I have the Spotify app, but only use the limited free mobile version. I don't wish to pry, so feel free to not answer if you don't want to disclose, but I was wondering if you'd share your platform and location. If were different, that could help explain why we don't see the same things, and could help with adding notes on the entries. Let me know. Thanks! Streaming video game music article and sourcing

Hey again. Not sure if you're getting these, since you dont seem to answer my talk page comments, but the articles we've been working on has become under scrutiny for not following Wikipedia rules. I don't agree with that notion, but there is truth that everything on Wikipedia needs to be

WP:PAGEHISTORY (like at this link here
) and re-add them as we find sources (though we can't be using the streaming services themselves as sources either.)

Please let me know that you've read this and understand. Or ask questions to me if you need to. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 13:45, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I appreciate your hard work on the article. I know you're not an expert but I appreciate your efforts. We'll see what happens, but the best thing to do now is just do our best to follow policy and guidelines the best we can and hopefully persuade people against getting rid of it. If I undo any of your edits, please don't take offense, I'm just trying to do what I can to keep the article alive. Sergecross73 msg me 02:27, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I hear you. That's why I wasn't able to keep up with you when I was trying to find all the sources myself. Thank you for using sources now though, I appreciate it.
So, generally speaking, message boards are going to fail
WP:VG/S has a big master list of sources that are generally usable or not usable on Wikipedia. It obviously doesn't cover all sources, and a source doesn't have to be on there to use it, but generally speaking, you're in good shape if you follow what it says. Two things

Firstly, you may not use the small template inside an infobox as per

MOS:SMALLFONT
.

Secondly, please don't add parent companies to film ownerships. For example Star Wars is not owned by Disney, it's owned by Lucasfilm. Disney just happen to be the current owners of Lucasfilm. Every company is owned by someone else, we only put the actual owner, not the parents of that owner. It's about who immediately owns the rights not someone further up the chain. Edit summaries and SHOUTING

Hi NakhlaMan! An edit summary is intended to give a short description of your edit. It's not a great place to leave a message for another to read, like your edit summary STOP ADDING LUNA TO THE PLATFORM LIST!!!!!!. Chances are the person who added it will not read your comment. The all caps

assume good faith, they're were probably unaware that we do not consider Luna to be a platform. It's best to start a discussion on the talk page, or if you noticed they've added it repeatedly to articles, just leave a short and friendly message. Regarding time to beat stat on video game articles

I don't check my watchlist often (hardly ever, actually) so it was only today that I noticed your edit on

Lego Indiana Jones 2. I've gone ahead and restored that content because I believe that there is good reason to include it: it's a source stating its effective opinion (that's the purpose of the source) about something easy to understand about a would-be-abstract aspect of the length of a video game. The length of a video game would otherwise be understood by a reader through the levels mentioned and how those are organized, but there is nothing to give away just how long the game should take. I think similar logic was employed on the other articles
where the source is used.

There is the distinct possibility that there was a previous discussion about this that I am unaware of. If so, and you are merely an agent of consensus, please show me to this and I'll happily keep it off the page and probably remove it elsewhere. If not, I sincerely invite you to start a discussion yourself.

ESP

Regarding this edit for Radiant Silvergun as well as the Lunar edits...I'm not understanding why the address printed on the case is proof of publisher. We don't know why or how they decided what to print on the case artwork. Concluding that they must be the publisher is original research. TarkusABtalk/contrib 08:55, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also it literally says in Japanese that ESP is the Distributor or seller and also during the Saturn years, games they co-published either were filed under the T-series number of the company they partnered with or given a special T-series number. So Radiant Silvergun code SKU is T-32902G which Treasure's T series code is T-329.

List referencing and reliability

Hi NakhlaMan, let me start by saying I acknowledge the huge amount of work you’re putting into video game list articles. For what it’s worth, it’s an effort I can really appreciate. That being said, I have concerns about where you are getting your information from and whether it’s coming from a reliable source or not. Some of your edits on List of Sega Genesis games and List of Sega CD games, the two articles I’ve seen you edit that I watch regularly, have removed sources without an explanation why in the edit summary. Moreover, I’ve seen a lot of edits that don’t add a reliable source for a date change, so where does the different date come from? Red Phoenix talk 01:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Usually from the article itself which sometimes has a ref but lately Venky64 has putting Google Groups as refs which are a little unreliable although if you look at the edit history for Streets of Rage 2 he says "but games ship on Tuesday in America, not Sunday"
and being that this is after Sonic 2 with it's Sonic "2day" thing where they release games on Tuesdays it makes sense.
Also why didnt you approve the source from your talk page yet? ]
Unfortunately I’m very busy in real life and usually just have a few minutes here or there on my phone anymore, so apologies I have not had the time to look at the source you posted.
When you pull from the article itself, it HAS to have a ref. Just because it’s unsourced elsewhere on the encyclopedia doesn’t mean it’s right, see
WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS
. Any unsourced addition can be challenged and removed. I happen to know when I worked on these two lists ten years ago for their FLCs, I went through and vetted every item to make sure it was reliably sourced to the listed sources I used. I’m sure more sources exist that verify higher levels of detail than I used in some circumstances (that were not available ten years ago), and I believe the lists can always be improved, but new additions must have reliable sources.
And a Google Group is not a reliable source. A reliable source would be if it’s on a reliable website or in a reliable video game magazine. Nothing user-contributed would count toward that. It’s also not an automatic that after Sonic 2 every video game in North America was released on a Tuesday.
Long story short: if it’s not sourced to a
reliable source, it doesn’t go on Wikipedia. If it’s already there elsewhere, it needs to be fixed, not copied. Red Phoenix talk 02:58, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply
]

This is not acceptable, either. You need to bring the full citation over. A list is an article, too; don’t ever expect someone to have to go to another article to check a reference. Red Phoenix talk 13:54, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of Xbox games

Since you seem intent on reverting my changes to List of Xbox games that you dislike, would you prefer Asian/Korean releases get their own column, or belong under the JP column? There are many games released in Asia/Korea but not Japan (and vice versa), so it would be confusing to see dozens of games under the JP column that were never released in Japan. Deterous (talk) 02:08, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding the Dead or Alive Ultimate collection, it should be two rows in the list as they are two games (DoA1 and DoA 2) released together. It is a list of games, not a list of releases. This is shown by Vice City having its own row despite never having its own release (instead being released as part of Double Pack and Trilogy). Deterous (talk) 02:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer them to be under the JP coloumn, although maybe we should rename it to Asia/JP or make it just say Asia and next to the release date make it say in brackets JP or KO and so on depending on the title. Also my mistake for DOA Ultimate I was not thinking straight for that one. ]

Release dates and chart appearances

Please can you avoid using chart appearances as proof of release dates. Firstly, you are assuming that a games appearance in the top 10 means that it hasn't already appeared lower down the chart earlier and moved up. Secondly, you are ignoring the time difference between the chart being compiled and actually being published - there can be many weeks between the two!

For example, you added a release month of August to the SMS release Operation Wolf based on a chart published on the 16th August. However, there is no indication of when the chart was compiled. In fact, you can work out that the television chart published alongside was compiled for the week staring Monday 30th July (from the Wed 1st August broadcast of the film Small Sacrifices on BBC - https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?q=small+sacrifices#top ), so Operation Wolf could well have been released on 30/31st July - and that's only if the two charts were compiled for the same dates which you can't assume either!
