Hi, I am Itcouldbepossible, also known as ICBP. Recently you tagged a draft for copyright deletion. What are the symptoms that are there, when you run a earwig test? I get amazed thinking about how you know that an article or draft could be copyrighted material. Itcouldbepossible^Talk 13:54, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi ICBP. Some of these are that a draft/new article has been created in one step and the user not having any prior experience. Also a lot of people aren't familiar with copyright laws and believe it's fine to copy content as long as you place a link to the source. These edits are usually obvious as they contain paragraphs that are written entirely different in comparison to the rest of the edit. Also those paragraphs are often the only ones with inline citations.

I run the copyviochecker quite frequently and sometimes I am right, sometimes not. Especially when it's not a new article but an existing one, you sometimes run into the issue of

Currently I use NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh's CopyvioChecker.js. It adds a button in the toolbar to the "More"-tab (the tab next to the Twinkle-tab). Clicking it will open Earwig's Copyvio Detector for the revision you are currently viewing. In article history it will open it for the most recent revision. It will work in multiple namespaces (Wikipedia, User, Article, Draft,..), just not in the Special pages one.

I have noticed others like to use the "MoreMenu"-gadget which adds a couple of helpful links to the toolbar, incl. one that opens Earwig's Copyvio Detector.

Good evening Itcouldbepossible. Yeah totally agree with you !! I checked it when I found it, and it looks and works fine. To prevent anything weird from happening I forked it to a .js that I have full control over. Honestly I struggled a bit with the MoreMenu gadget as well (too many options for what I usually need). Hi Itcouldbepossible, you mean the one about using NDKDD's script ? I just meant I copied the script from the other user to a script page in my own user space.

Currently you don't have any custom scripts yourself, right ? What you can do is create User:Itcouldbepossible/CopyvioChecker.js, and copy the content from User:NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh/CopyvioChecker.js there. And then simply include a line about your own script on your common.js at User:Itcouldbepossible/common.js like this importScript('User:Itcouldbepossible/CopyvioChecker.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Itcouldbepossible/CopyvioChecker.js]]. This way you can be sure it won't ever be changed by anyone else.

Another editor advised/ stated that "the subject is notable as a senior civil servant but the article is a WP:BLP, which means it needs a reference for every sentence. There is whole sections that are effectively unsourced, that cover very large time periods. Update the article with at least another 30 references and it will be good". I didn't notice anything private that should be kept off-wiki so I will be replying here. I checked and the article has indeed been moved to draftspace at Draft:Yonov Frederick Agah in November 2021. Editors with a conflict of interest are strongly advised to request edits to articles via the talk page. However this doesn't apply to drafts. So you can edit the draft, add references, remove unverifiable content, and so on. Once you believe the draft is ready you can submit it for review then.

If you need some assistance in adding the mentioned references properly I am happy to help you with that. When it comes to finding them, I need to ask you to take the lead however. It is good to know that in draft format, I can - edit the draft, add references, remove unverifiable content, and - Once I believe that it is ready, submit it for review. On adding the references properly, yes, please I would really appreciate assistance with that. But, I will come back to you if I do find some references, or I will let you know if I did not. Lastly, I did speak to Scope creep, unfortunately, he does not have time to help. However, he did not mention the types of references needed, just that "it needs a reference for every sentence/it needs at least another 30 references". Hi Fantwan100, thanks for your contributions! I did have a look at the revised article and that's when I noticed that there still were some issues, e.g. the one you also mention about the manifesto. I have removed all of them and marked the old revisions of the article for redaction. Once an admin has redacted these versions, they can no longer be viewed by anyone who is not an administrator. The admin will also remove the template message regarding copyright issues. The current version of the article as well as any future version will be visible for users however. I was wondering what tool you used to uncover copyright infringement. Because the Wikipedia tool that we use didn't find anything and when I went to the page you linked to, it was just a blank page, unavailable for viewing. Do you have some special subscription? As an admin reviewing pages tagged for CSD deletion, I check each one and while the page was self-promotional, I couldn't verify it was a copyright violation. Thank you. Liz ^{Read! Hi Liz, I think the tool you mean is Earwig's copyvio detector, right ? That's the one I use as well. In cases where I believe it may be a copyright infringement even though nothing shows up in Earwig's detector, I tend to manually search for a few key phrases online.

In this case I had searched for "Sometimes I think life was much easier when we were kids," and was lead straight to the book "Behind Solitude and Isolation". Earwig's copyvio detector against the Google book preview didn't show it as a likely copvio even though sections were copied word by word from it.

I suspect due to Google previewing the book as images rather than text, our favorite tool can't detect it. I had a similar case recently where someone had copied from a book extract. It was available as pdf-preview on a Springer website but the copyvio detector wasn't able to process the pdf-content.

Did you try accessing the page I had linked manually, or just through a copyvio detector tool? If it even showed a blank page when accessing it manually, then this might be due to a copy-paste error on my side while using my phone for tagging it.

Hi. Thanks for your note on AIV. I understand your point about the edits being for apparently promotional purposes, but I am not sure that dealing with them as vandalism/spam is appropriate. The new article will either fail/pass review or be speedy deleted, and the handful of other edits were late last year. If the editor were actively spamming now it could be a different issue. Agreed, content seems little bit similar to what you have shared for us as we already have knowledge on it.

But I feel the below mentioned points are missing in the page right now...

1. It didn't specifically talk about how easy the scalability of applications will be to serve worldwide if they use timestamps in programming and database.
2. Also, there is no appropriate example of how the Timezone offset effecting the timestamp values.
3. Also, the ISO-8601 is an alternative to the timestamp in the programming. Using it won't be as easy when you do timezone conversion with ISO-string. - This is not mentioned.
4. Putting "Why Unix timestamp is needed?" as a sub-heading would attract someone to get answer quickly who want to know the benefits of using the timestamp (This would be helpful).

Best place to discuss this is the article talk page. Generally speaking Wikipedia articles are not how-tos. Headings such as "Why xy?" are not desired. Also you need to provide reliable sources for your edits. That website you keep linking is not such source, especially as it doesn't mention half of what you are saying. Rebel Agent, I would like to invite you however to consider not only the conversation here but the full situation. Plenty explanation had been given about why edits were reverted in edit summaries and on their talk page already. Furthermore, it is a normal thing to ask new editors about paid-editing, especially when they only have one area of interest, their username bears the name of the article subject and attempts at whitewashing that article are made.

If you find a draft on an incorrect page, like an orphaned talk page, please consider moving it to Draft space. Many new editors do not know that Draft space even exists and since they can't create new articles, they put drafts on different pages, like Talk pages or Template pages. I created my query some weeks ago out of curiosity and to learn how Mediawiki's database is structured, how categories work and so on. Personally I find direct database access very comforting. Especially when a graphical UI doesn't offer wildcard searcher, e.g. for searching similar titles of deleted pages, lists of users with similar usernames.

Hi there. I just added content to Raul Yzaguirre's entry, and it's not showing up as published. I have worked for UnidosUS (previously known as the National Council of La Raza) for 22 years, and a colleague and I were tasked with updating Raul's information under an extremely tight deadline since the press is likely looking on Wikipedia for soundbites. Yesterday the White House announced that Raul will be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Thursday July 7. I am new to Wiki editing, but I did my best to at least hyperlink to the appropriate sources. The majority of the content I added is from internal institutional, historical documents and not necessarily "published."

Of course. And thank you for your quick response! First let me clarify. Raul Yzaguirre was the President of NCLR for 30 years, and the organization's name was changed to UnidosUS under Raul's successor, Janet Murguia. I served under both.

I was given the task by Darcy Eischens, Deputy Vice President of Policy and Development (UnidosUS), and Charles Kamasaki, who recently retired as the Senior Cabinet Advisor (UnidosUS) after more than 40 years at the organization, and who previously was the Executive Vice President of the organization working alongside both Raul and Janet. However, he has extended his tenure to shepherd Raul's nomination for the Medal of Freedom through to its end.

The information I added is about Raul's accomplishments, which have been well-documented for decades in the press, books, journals, and so on. I want to do the right thing and will read through the information in the links you included, but unfortunately I am not in a position to take on archival research at this time.

I am at a loss on how to manage this before the awards ceremony next week.

@Wordsinging: Ok, I was asking about it as there are some disclosure requirements in case of editing in a conflict-of-interest field or when edits are made with indirect/direct financial compensation.

I do believe you of course that the accomplishments mentioned in the article were not made up by you. However, there really is a need to back the edits up with reliable sources I am afraid. Books and journals are great of course but online news reporting by reliable outlets is fine as well by the way.

We have entire articles that are deleted years later for being too promotional. Just because content was part of Wikipedia for a while doesn't mean that it was supposed to be there in the first place.

If the source describes this in the same manner as if someone was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize then you might want to question and reconsider using that source.

Hi Kiwiwomble, unfortunately the content had to be removed from the draft as it was copied from a site protected by copyright. You are right that the sandbox is for you to work on texts. It is however public and as such copyrighted material can't exist there either :/

My experience is that it can be easier starting with new text from scratch rather than trying to rewrite an existing one. Our brains tend to stick with words and expressions we read.. So my recommendation would be to look what has been published in independent, reliable sources and start from there. The idea of Wikipedia articles is that they sort of sum up was has been reported already in reliable sources, and not just what the subject of the article would want others to know.

You mentioned you work for the club, I will post a message on your talkpage with helpful links how to handle editing with a conflict of interest and how to disclose paid editing.

Hi Njd-de, I just declined Draft:Niraj Vikram and got a tingly feeling in my spidey sense. A little bit of digging found a report by you in this SPI archive, as well as this AfD. Do you remember if this draft is about the same person? I mean, the mere creation of a spammy article with a title that multiple socks have been creating spammy articles recently is a suspicious on its own, and the draft creator has been pretty relentless about resubmitting, creating copies, etc. But it might be some other Niraj Vikram; this one is touted more as a script writer than as an actor (though the draft says that he has also been an actor), and it looks like there's been some variant spellings (Vikram / Vikarm) in the creations by Bikrookanpurgangster socks. Hello, and thank you for your advice. Although I'm a newbie to starting a Wiki page as well as editing an article, I've been an avid reader and big supporter of Wikipedia. I'm a bit stumped on how to start my own page. I believe that my professional career and personal life does merit an article with my name. I found it difficult to get started based on the step-by-step info available. Is it acceptable for someone to create an article in their own name? A colleague of mine said that he did and was successful. Should I have someone else who suggested that I have a Wiki page begin it for me to edit?

Also, in regards to the six month timeline to edit the article or risk losing the information, I did make an edit, albeit small, about a month ago. It was grammatical. Does that not count as a sufficient edit?

Any advice on this would be a big help.
