Disambiguation link notification for May 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of slums, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Manilla (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of cuisines may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. What are you doing
What is the reasoning for your deletion nomination of the TLI Archive? That is the worst example of tendentious editing I have ever encountered and lacks levels of good faith that is astounding. I have never done anything like that on a single thing of yours that I opposed. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 16:58, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
- The rationale for deletion is located here, at the deletion discussion. Please post your views there, to keep discussions in one place.
- Please also view the discussion at the Village pump policy page: 14-day deadline for proposals on Wikipedia project pages?, where editors disagree with your decree of enforcing a 14-day deadline for top-importance article proposals on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/tli page, upon which time nominations would be considered to have "failed."
- You stated in an edit summary on the TLI page that this is Wikipedia "policy," but it appears that no such policy exists. The project page historically receives few page views (check views), and it's unlikely that nominations would consistently receive input within the relatively short time span of 14 days. Better to allow more time for people to have a chance to contribute. Hopefully this serves to clarify matters per your comment above. Please assume good faith, and keep in mind that we're all here to improve the encyclopedia. Northamerica1000(talk) 22:03, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

I've withdrawn the nomination at the deletion discussion, per discussion occurring at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/tli talk page. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:03, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

- The deletion nomination was made in good faith. Please comment about content, not on the contributor, per the linked policy page. Please try to be more civil in your approach in Wikipedia discussions about Wikipedia content. I provided an explanation on the deletion discussion page regarding my withdrawing of the nomination. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:06, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- What you have not explained is why you nominated for deletion in the first place when discussion had already started. Explain that. — The Potato Hose03:12, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- What you have not explained is why you nominated for deletion in the first place when discussion had already started. Explain that. —
- I formally apologize for not allowing more time for discussion to occur prior to the archive page's MfD nomination, because the former would have been more functional. Northamerica1000(talk) 07:08, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Split of List of cuisines complete
- List of African cuisines
- List of Asian cuisines
- List of European cuisines
- List of Oceanian cuisines
- List of cuisines of the Americas
Maybe it will be easier to bring these more moderately-sized lists to FL status. The first one that makes it may pave the way for the rest.
Getting back to List of cuisines, the leads in the sections Oceanian cuisine and Cuisines of the Americas need some work, as they don't go into any detail like the other section leads do.
Working on the lists led me to notice that there currently is no article on Oceanian cuisine.
I hope you like the new set.
I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 05:06, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Transhumanist: The split makes sense, and the new articles look nice. One important matter is that more links to these new articles need to be placed in other articles, so people will become aware of their existence. Clicking on the "What links here" link on the left menu of pages generates a listing of what articles link to them (if you weren't already aware of this option). So, at this time, merging the remaining content from Global cuisine remains, to repurpose that page to be exclusively about the topic of Global cuisines. Perhaps we can collaborate to create an article on Oceanic cuisine sometime too! Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 05:27, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm glad you like them. I too find the "What links here" feature very useful, especially in WP:AWB. Concerning Global cuisine, I've revised its lead, limiting its context to a type of cuisine (cuisines that have gone global), as opposed to its previous context of all cuisine. Though the all-inclusive context of the term should probably be explained, along with the scope of the rest of the article.

I know you already have portal barnstar, but your work on these is so good you deserve another. Just been looking at things like the ecology and global warming portals to get some inspiration for the one on hunger. If only the actual articles were as good as your portals. I see for example the critical main article on GW is largely based on old sources, despite the abundant recent research. If only all active editors would spend at least half as much time improving content as they do on attacking others and trying to destroy other folks work!
- Thanks Feyd, and again, please notify me when the Hunger portal goes live. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 04:33, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Food & Drink Invitation template
Hello North
I moved the template to a new name with a shorter name that is in line with the other project templates. I also made a small change so that the name of the person would be a bit larger than the rest of the text.
Good job on that.
Also, may I suggest you move the information on the F&D Collaboration to the Collaboration page on the Project? Just a suggestion. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 07:32, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- The changes to the {{FD invitation}} template look nice, and thanks for moving it to the project's templates page. I'm unsure where the information about F&D Collaboration is located, so perhaps you should perform this. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 07:56, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

- It's all good. I added Portal:Geography because the portal covers geographic topics that are within countries. Here's some examples: Portal:Geography/Featured picture/9, Portal:Geography/Featured picture/7, Portal:Geography/Featured article/9. However, I also understand the viewpoint that it's not the best fit. It's more about including a link for the "related" topic of geography in general. If you decide to remove it, I won't revert. North, do you mind if we go back to the original plan and you create the portal? I posted a starter section with the info along the lines you advised at the bottom of my talk. Speedy deletion declined: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Squiddles
Hello Northamerica1000. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Squiddles, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Wikia content is CC-BY-SA. The notice at bottom right on this particular page was hidden by a blurb about a podcast, but it was there. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:42, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- I was wondering about this from the start; I missed the Creative Commons tag on the source page. Sure enough, at http://mspaintadventures.wikia.com/wiki/Squiddles it states in the lower-right corner of the page "Content is available under CC-BY-SA." Thanks for notifying me about this. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:33, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- It comes up quite often, because enthusiastic fans try to copy the contents of specialist wikis like Wookieepedia into WP. JohnCD (talk) 21:42, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, yet as I'm sure you're aware, topics on Wikipedia need to pass Notability guidelines. I had to decline the submission at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Squiddles due to a lack of any reliable sources within it at this time. Northamerica1000(talk)03:36, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

I don't know if you're still watching this, but you might want to read Curb Chain's latest comments regarding his removal of the sourced content you had added. postdlf (talk) 02:30, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- A couple of days ago I added the information back to the article in the lead, "Ice luges have also been described as a type of drinking game," because the sources state so. I didn't do so before because I prefer not to waste my time edit warring with an editor about a 12-word sentence in an article, despite the content being verified by 2 reliable sources. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:25, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- I hear what "Northamerica" is saying, and thanx a lot of your recent edits to some of the other list pages that Curb Chain has been unfortunately haunting (for lack of better term) for way too long now. It's pretty much pointless to argue points that don't really matter with an editor that's pretty obviously (to me anyways) here to cause mischief & not much else. Hello, Northamerica1000! DASonnenfeld gave me your username in connection with the creation of the Forestry Portal. I'm putting together Portal:Globalization and could use some help with designing the rotating portal boxes. If you would have time to help me, please leave a note on my talkpage. Thanks! Regards, Meclee (talk) 03:33, 22 June 2013 (UTC) |
- Hello Meclee: Actually, I didn't create the Forestry portal, but recently updated it. Regarding Portal:Globalization, would you like me to set-up the page queues for the selected person, article and picture sections? If so, just let me know. Also, some suggestions include: 1) move the categories onto the main page in a full width box with a 30em divider, because people may not necessarily click on subpage links, 2) change the "About the Globalization Portal..." link in the intro to "Read more..." with a link to the Globalization article. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:42, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply! Yes, please, I'd like to take you up on the offer of setting-up the page queues for the selected person, article and picture sections. I was reading at the Portals page that Portal:Philosophy has their page queues set to automatically display a new article every week of the year. We definitely have enough articles and people for that, but maybe not pictures. I also like your other suggestions. Thanks! Regards, Meclee (talk) 03:52, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
I've created:
- Portal:Globalization/Selected article
- Portal:Globalization/Selected picture
- Portal:Globalization/Selected person
All have 10 subpages formatted at this time. To add more, just copy and paste the template from a current entry to more subpages. I'm not versed in setting up the queues to load a new article every week. I've seen instances where portals aren't maintained and then the weekly selections become red links as a result, so it may be easier just to have the the purge (view new selections) in place on the main page (it's currently there) so viewers can shuffle to new entries. More to come soon. Northamerica1000(talk) 04:14, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Added cats to main page. Rewrote "More about the portal" to "Read more..." with link to Globalization article. I'll make some touch-ups here and there if I can find anything to improve. Northamerica1000(talk) 04:23, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Also created Portal:Globalization/Did you know, so it's present and ready if you'd like to utilize it. Northamerica1000(talk) 04:31, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for your prompt help! I'll get up-to-speed on this portal stuff, yet! Regards, Meclee (talk) 04:36, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Citations in leads, convenience foodsWhen rewriting the lead of an article, you don't need to cite it. The lead, per WP:Lead , is a summary of the article it is introducing. So unless you're dealing with really contentious information, the citations should be in the body.
Good job expanding this, you should also restore the lead to its previous length and format to separate the ideas into individual paragraphs. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 19:25, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 15Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of companies based in Oregon, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page LCS (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject. Closing 'Pakeha Party' deletion discussionAccording to the non-admin closing policy, it isn't only consensus but also "taking account of Wikipedia policies and guidelines" which have been cited in the arguments made, and non-admin closing should be avoided for controversial subjects. Discussion was still on-going and points being made. I would prefer an admin to consider the issues and points raised before closing.121.74.249.43 (talk) 02:48, 19 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I'm curious - you recently added Cranford, Donegal to the 'See also' section of the above article - why? Cranford is in County Donegal, but there is no obvious connection to Donegal Town. Regards Denisarona (talk ) 06:43, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
List of whisky brandsFirst off, thanks for the barnstar! Appreciate that. Regarding the revert you made to my edit, you might have seen that User:Oknazevad has reverted it back. Just wanted to apologize for not writing an edit summary, and being more clear about my change. Not many editors edit the Indian whisky section, so I kind of thought a minor move would go unnoticed. Dunjeon StationThank you for your message on my talk page. I am responding here, since you asked me to do so, although in my opinion it is almost always better to reply to a message on the page where that message was posted, to avoid difficulty in following fragmented conversations. You say that you have "un-reviewed" talk ) 13:16, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Thanks for tidying up bidirectional cell. I hope it was ok that I just quickly put a few bits of info on the page. I figured people who know how to do referencing etc on here could take over :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lionfish0 (talk • contribs) 14:30, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

WP:VA/EOut of curiosity, why do you oppose removing George W. Bush to add Henry Clay? Henry Clay was one of the most influential American politicians of the 19th century, responsible for the American System, the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. By contrast, George W. Bush did very little good for the country or for the world. And he only left the White House four years ago, so his legacy is still undefined. Seems to me that it's pretty clear Clay is more important than W
