To open a discussion on the article talk page, go to Proclamation of the Irish Republic and click the "Talk" tab on the top left. Alternatively, go directly to Talk:Proclamation of the Irish Republic by typing that in the Search box. On the talk page, click "New section", which is in the row of tabs to the right of the "Article" and "Talk" tabs, beside "Read" and "Edit". The nub of the problem is that John Bowen Colthurst was only on the Western Front from 14 August-19 September 1914. Colthurst's superiors noted his 'eccentricity' in September 1914 but it had been noted previously. If I remember rightly, Colthurst had cited the death of his brother, Robert, as a partial justification to Lt Morgan for the executions he had just carried out at Portobello.

Hi CanK9 - I don't understand quite how John Bowen-Colthurst's dates of service in France are to do with his brother's death. As far as I've heard, JBC, always dangerously eccentric, became quite unhinged after his brother's death. He surely didn't have to be serving with his brother for this to be so? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. - Pagegurners
