Welcome!

Hello, RegMonkey, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was

Draft:Tavneet Suri, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral
and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Drmies (talk) 02:42, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is your opportunity to explain what I perceive to be a conflict of interest--and please, while you are at it, explain your relationship with User:WilsonMiller10. Drmies (talk) 02:44, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Drmies. I don't have any conflicts of interest with the subject matter, and thus didn't report. Is there a reason that you and/or Wikipedia would assume as such? I'm new here, so hoping I didn't breach any norms :) RegMonkey (talk) 02:48, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? Cause, you know, I'm wondering where your interest in this person comes from, and your editing skills. Drmies (talk) 02:51, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable. I read Wikipedia's guidance on conflict of interest here and the subject is not part of my organization, a client, or competitor. I work in economics and enjoy Professor Suri's work, but have no formal affiliation or competition with her whatsoever. RegMonkey (talk) 02:58, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello RegMonkey! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Tails Wx 00:45, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Global Priorities Institute

Hello RegMonkey,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged

Global Priorities Institute for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace
that's not for articles.

If you don't want Global Priorities Institute to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Seawolf35 (talk - email) 18:26, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read

the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard

to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tavneet Suri requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DYK for Michael Kremer

On 18 January 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Michael Kremer, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Michael Kremer's O-ring theory of economic development was inspired by his forgetting to purchase toilet paper for a training session? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Michael Kremer. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Michael Kremer), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
