Hi SS49, just fyi, when you close requested moves to rename a page, it helps a great deal if you would close the discussion first before moving the page(s). That way, the RM does not end up on the "malformed requests" list. In particular, this refers to your closure of

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

article for improvement
(week 26, 2020)

William Mariner was an Englishman who lived in Tonga from 29 November 1806 to (probably) 8 November 1810. He later published Tonga Islands, an account of his experiences that is now one of the major sources of information on Tonga before it was significantly influenced by European culture and Christianity. Pictured is Mariner in Tongan attire.

Henry VIII moves

Just wanted to bring to your attention that the subpages of Talk:Henry VIII were left as a mess, with the old subpages stuck at Draft talk:Move/Talk:Henry VIII of England/GA1 and the intended targets somehow being redirects to themselves. It's fixed now, but I wonder if there was a bug in pageswap, or something got mixed up somewhere. Wikiacc () 15:35, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi SS49. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at

WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page
. In addition, please remember:

  • usually
not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Barkeep49 (talk) 02:24, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

  • Good job reviewing during the trial run, I just wanted to point out a few areas for improvement from what I saw. For articles about poorly sourced top-level sports leagues like 2020–21 Iraqi Premier League, it's ok to give them a pass despite not having sufficient sourcing, but you should place an appropriate tag when doing so. Additionally, I'm not sure that The Golden Holiday's coverage quite meets GNG, as a lot of it looks like routine pre-release press. That having been said, given that most of the people working on the film appear to be notable in their own right, it will likely be notable once it's released. signed, Rosguill talk 22:25, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Closing move requests

After you've decided to grant a move request, please do me a favor and close the move request before you actually rename the page(s). Ref.:

 22:50, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Paine Ellsworth, It is easier to move by clicking the direct move link at the bottom of the box, so I move first. Please let me know the way you do. Thank you so much for your help. ~SS49~ {talk} 23:01, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
I gave up using that link long ago, because most of the time I would end up with a page like this, which has the little pink box that tells me I don't have the juice to move the page that way. Instead, I check the target page title to make sure it's not fully protected (if it is fully protected, then after I close the RM I'll make a
technical move request) and to see if there is or is not only one edit to the page. Then, depending on what I find, I close the RM and either do a round robin if necessary, or maybe create a new redirect if I can, and eventually I'll go directly to the article I'm going to move and click on the Move link at the top. For me, the direct link in the {{Requested move/dated
}} template is usually a waste of time, so I avoid using it.
Now, when I think about it, it's really not that big a deal. In this case, by the time I got to the Progress Rail RM, you had already closed it, so a few minutes later the bot removed it from the Malformed requests list. So never mind, I guess. Best to you!  23:56, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
