List of colleges and universities in Vermont
Hi -- I see you worked a lot on and got featured List of colleges and universities in Vermont. I'm looking at doing the same for New Hampshire, and I was hoping you could help me out. The "Type" category in the list is noted as coming from U.S. News, which is a simplification of the Carnegie Classification. Where are the U.S. News categorizations available? I couldn't find it on their website (where they didn't necessarily have an entry for every school, either), but maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Anyway, I'd appreciate your helps. Thanks! Dylan 16:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- They're listed on the individual college pages under "US News Ranking". For example, Daniel Webster College is a Baccalaureate College. I did cheat a bit and change "National university" to "Research university", since that seems to be the more common term. For the schools that US News doesn't include, you can find the Carnegie Classification in the NCES database. Toohool 06:21, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm back! This time, I'm working on List of colleges and universities in Rhode Island. My question is, how did you find out the names of defunct and out-of-state institutions in Vermont, making sure your list was comprehensive? - Here are two sites that list many closed colleges: [1] [2]. Neither is a reliable source, but they're a good starting point. And here's an index of a library collection of college catalogs that includes many defunct schools: [3]. This was mostly set up to mirror the state reporting areas. So adding NLV is problematic. The resort corridor is part of the strip as reported as I understand it so this is the only breakout. If you want to section out NLV, it should be as a subset of the section those casinos are already in. I suppose that in hindsight, the resort corridor should be a subset of the strip. Vegaswikian (talk) 06:31, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- Actually the Strat and Aztec are listed in downtown. So maybe some cleanup is needed. Comments? Vegaswikian (talk) 06:33, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- I would basically argue that Wikipedia templates should be organized around what makes the most sense to Wikipedia readers, not what makes sense to some government agency. If breaking out NLV in a separate section makes it more navigable (e.g. helping a user see what other casinos are nearby to the article they're reading), then we should do it. And I think if you look at most any travel guide, you'll find the Stratosphere filed under the Strip. Toohool (talk) 06:39, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

The common name for the CDP is Moapa Town: nationwide, this is how we write about this type of community. You'll similarly not find unofficial names for places like "The Big Apple" or "The Windy City" or "Indy": they're abbreviations or thoroughly nicknames, but they're never the most common names for the official entity.

Merging building articles is generally not the best choice. Structures that were notable can and probably still should have an article since that building was in fact notable. If merged, both buildings still need an infobox. Also the categories should not all be included in the current article. Also, the old building should at least be a section to more cleanly handle redirects for the old name. Bottom line is that there is little if any advantage for merging building articles when one was destroyed. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:00, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- The building was not completely destroyed. The tower, which is the most visible part of the building, was hardly damaged in the fire. They both are notable enough to merit a separate article, but I feel a single article is the most effective way to present the information. WIthout knowing the whole history of the Gold Strike, you can't understand the Hacienda (e.g. how did it come to exist in the middle of a National Recreation Area? How did the current owners come to possess it? Why is the NPS not allowed to make an offer to buy the place?) Separate articles would by necessity have a lot of duplicated information. And not every building automatically has to have an infobox. Redirects are not a problem either, the relationship of the Gold Strike and the Hacienda is made quite clear in the lead paragraph. Whitespace bug
Hi Toohool. :) I've been using your Lua code for getting the arguments, and I've found what I suspect is a bug in it. Specifically, the issue is with this part:
local args = {}
for k, v in pairs(origArgs) do
if v ~= '' then -- <-- this removes blanks, but not other kinds of whitespace
args[k] = v
end
end
This rejects blank values, but accepts other kinds of whitespace, which I assume is not the behaviour you were expecting. I've set up Module:User:Mr. Stradivarius/whitespacebug to demonstrate it. It doesn't look like it actually makes any difference to the modules it's used in (for example, in Module:Navbox it gets caught by the trim()
function) but it could cause unwanted behaviour in future code, so I thought I'd bring it up with you. I had a play around and it looks like the following code catches all the whitespace properly:
if mw.ustring.match(v, "%S") then
args[k] = v
end
Best regards — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 15:57, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi.
htmlbuilder has some functions which are intentionally sililar to jQuery, which makes JS programmers on wp happy. this is actually very nice.
i'd like to ask that you teach it, just like jquery, to except tables as parameters to "attr" and to "css".
so one will be able to use
t.css( 'attribute', 'value' )
.css( 'att2', 'val2' )
.css( 'att3', 'val3' )
-- but also
tab1 = { attr1 = 'val1', att2 = 'val2', att3 = 'val3' }
tab2 = { attr4 = 'val4', att5 = 'val5', att6 = 'val6' }
t.css( tab1 )
.css( tab2 )
this will allow me to do some fun stuff that is more difficult now.
the reason is that some of the values might be constant, but may be called for multiple entities, so i could construct the table once, and then reuse it when constructing the html entities again and again. maybe more convincing argument will be "jQuery did it"...
same logic also holds for .attr(), but i must admit, i care much more about .css() at the moment.

{{#invoke:Infobox|infobox|below={{{below|}}}}}

Re-licensing your contributions to Module:Infobox and Module:HtmlBuilder
Hello Toohool,
I'm working on the upcoming Capiunto MediaWiki extension for Wikimedia Deutschland. The extension is supposed to provide a Lua (Scribunto) Infobox module on all Wikimedia wikis in a consistent way, similar to the Module:Infobox on the English Wikipedia. As a base for this new extension we plan to use the already mentioned Module:Infobox. Because of this we kindly ask you to give us the permission to reuse your contributions to the modules Infobox and HtmlBuilder under the GNU General Public License v2 or newer (GPL v2+). That makes reusing the code easier for us and matches the license of the rest of the extension. To give us the permission to reuse the mentioned code under the GPL v2+, just reply to this message in an unambiguous manner. The diff in which you approved the code reuse under the GPL v2+ will be noted within the extension. Cheers, and thanks for your work - Hoo man (talk) 22:49, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

Casinos
Hi, thanks for your Sands edits. I've noticed you've done a lot of good work on hotels and casinos. Obviously Sands is at GAR but I wondered if you'd be up for promoting something like Caesar's Palace with me? A core article worth expanding.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:19, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld: Thanks.. I probably wouldn't be very good at coordinating efforts on an article. I tend to get distracted quickly and go for stretches without much wiki-editing time. If you go for it, I'll probably jump in with some edits to help here and there, but can't promise anything. Toohool (talk) 18:49, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Unincorporated towns in Nevada
I notice you keep changing town types to "unincorporated towns". Can you provide references indicating that each one is in fact, legally, an unincorporated town? Nevada law is specific on this, so if its not an unincorporated town, then you shouldn't list it as such. Famartin (talk) 03:45, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Famartin: I see you've added the references yourself, thank you. I was simply undoing another editor who changed those infobox entries en masse (probably being unaware of the special status of unincorporated towns in Nevada). Toohool (talk) 04:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
Heathriel
I see you undid all of my edits - I'm curious as to why. You marked them all as spam/Promotional, however I am well aware of the wikipedia guidelines and provided the best source links I could on each subject. For example, Kim MacQuarrie is a recognized expert on Incas and Peru (via National Geographic, PBS, Discovery Channel, producer of Guidebooks, the country of Peru, etc), and the link I provided was to an updated version of a book or articles that contains the information that was missing from those pages. Where should I have linked to other than his site?
And as for Vegas, I provided an (unbiased) link explaining Hsieh's ongoing support for the Downtown Project, which is what the original article was about. I can provide different ones, although it is difficult to find ones that are purely informational due to the controversial nature of the project.
I'll gladly update them with different links, as there are thousands out there supporting each. I'd just like to know what would pass your particular barometer.
Heathriel (talk) 15:52, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
- @conflict of interest policy. It looks to me like you are also trying to promote Kim MacQuarrie (e.g. linking to a reprint of an LATimes article from his web site, rather than citing the LATimes directly, and linking to his site from Moray (Inca ruin) where the linked page says nothing about the article topic). If you want to improve these articles, you can start by linking to sources that you are not affiliated with or promoting. For example, there have been probably hundreds of newspaper articles about the Downtown Project that you could link to. Toohool (talk) 19:40, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Re: Hilton Worldwide article request
On second thought, I believe it is still incorrect to include "Blackstone Group" in the infobox in any capacity. Since Hilton Worldwide is a publicly traded company, it is actually incorrect for anyone to be called an "owner" and the parameter guidelines for the infobox say (my bold): "Use this parameter to list ownership percentages for private companies owned by a few key individuals or to list ownership percentages for joint ventures, if applicable. Do not use this field for publicly traded companies. When listing a company as an owner, use the full legal name of the entity that holds the ownership stake in the article's subject company." Would you mind eliminating Blackstone Group from the infobox altogether?
Thanks again for your time and assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 17:19, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Trump Org Revenue
The $611 million figure came from the total of all the revenue reported from each business entity. See this CNN source for confirmation [1]Oriole7 (talk) 05:52, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Oriole7: I looked at the filing and I don't see that number anywhere, and the CNN source you are citing does not even mention the Trump Organization. Toohool (talk) 20:42, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Toohool: You're not going to find that figure in the filing unless the add the aggregate of all the revenues from each business entity, which happens to make up the Trump Organization. All of the entities in the filing are collectively referred to and do business as The Trump Organization. See [2]. The income reported is actually not Trump's personal net income, but rather gross revenues see [3]. Oriole7 (talk) 22:06, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Cannery Casino and Hotel
Hi! You've added a mass of unreferenced content at
Harrah's Las Vegas old name
About a revert made by you of a edit made by me about Harrah's Las Vegas old name, it is indicated in a old photo in Facebook posted by Caesars Palace's official account, look at Holiday inn's tower at top right corner which shows: Holiday Inn Hotel & Casino. Here's the source: https://www.facebook.com/caesarspalace/photos/a.121502960796.134828.106977845796/10154266392840797/?type=3&theater This is just for giving information about whenever it should be addressed. Thanks. Have a good day.
- @Roif456: Well the sign in the photo actually says "Holiday Inn Hotel Casino", but you've written that it was called both "Holiday Inn Hotel and Casino" and "Holiday Inn Hotel and Casino Las Vegas". You also wrote that it was renamed to this in 1983, but the photo is from 1981. And when you make an edit, please cite your sources in the article, don't wait for someone to revert or challenge it. Clarification on "Unsourced Edit"
Hi there, thank you for leaving your message on my talk. May I kindly know what policies or guidelines are u referring to? Not all information on Wikipedia requires a citation in the first place. While I do understand that providing useful links will increase the credibility of information, it doesn't mean that non-citated informations are not reliable. There are so many other Wikipedia articles that either lacks reliable citations or are filled with too much unsourced informations, why don't u mention about that? But please be assured that relevant citations will be added when deemed to be necessary, do kindly allow me to know your perspective before we can continue with our discussions here. All of my information are gathered from the various other Wikipedia articles, so I urge u NOT to revert any of my edits as u can click onto those links to verify them for yourself, thank you. Boulder Station
Greetings. I gotta ask, how does WP:COMMONNAME apply when the venue in question clearly names itself Boulder Station Hotel [&] Casino per its signage and website? I know WP guidelines are there, but they can't be taken as gospel all the time. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 00:46, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- @International Business Machines Corporation.
- By the way, I also noticed you moving some casino articles to correct the use of "and" vs. ampersands. There's usually no point to making such moves, as even the casinos themselves tend to be inconsistent about such minor variations. It's not uncommon to find a casino website that calls it the "XYZ Casino Hotel", while another page on the same site says "XYZ Casino & Hotel", and the sign in front of the place says "XYZ Hotel Casino". Toohool (talk) 01:10, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- No worries, and I can see the reasoning now. I'm not into editing hotel-casino articles themselves; I just edit a lot of professional boxing record tables where I repeatedly see the names of these venues ad nauseum. An ampersand here.. an "and" there.. different name on the website than on the sign.. two different names on the website itself.. It's a horrible sight to a nitpicker like me. ;-)
- Out of curiosity I then tend to check how the venues themselves list the names, but have encountered all sorts of inconsistencies like the one we've discussed above. Again, I won't be moving any more of them, but I will use the redirects wherever possible. I appreciate the clarification. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 12:09, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
