What with all the government re-organisation in recent years, and all the restructuring that took place after the handover, there are a lot of government positions and offices that are now defunct or abolished. So I've created two new categories for this:

What do you other editors think of getting rid of Current events in Hong Kong?

1. 95% of the time, I am the only one updating it and archiving it, and I don't think many people actually visit the page.
2. All the items are replicated on Portal:Hong Kong; and I'll keep updating the news item portion of the portal if we got rid of the current events page.
3. All the major current events pages are now fully integrated into Portal:Current events. I asked on that portal's Talk page a while ago whether we can integrate the HK current events page into it, and I got no response. (And it probably doesn't need it because there's a specific subpage for China.)

To answer H7G: post-merger, everything is branded MTR. As for "HKRC", I think the correct way of dealing with the "literal translation" issue is to merge the information onto MTRC and then set a redirect on HKRC. Mentioning it seem to be a direct target to the people and that is a concern. But not mentioning seems to hide a really important social history. We can start with a couple critical websites. You can probably find quite a bit of magazine and news articles talking about how HK has - or has not - changed since the handover or since China's opening up in the 80s. But can they be pieced together as a coherent topic without it violating the synthesis rule? Academic sources specifically on the so called "mainland culture shock" would be very helpful. The reason I think this can easily run the risk of synthesis is because it's not some physical object or definitive event, we're talking about a sociological phenonmenon that may not have received academic recognition. It's sort of like the term “香港人” that some of us were talking about before. We all know the term, just like we know about the mainland culture shock and the changes that HK has gone through in the past couple of decades, but that does not necessarily mean the topic has been given enough attention in the real world to be a topic on its own here on WP. Anyway, I am not necessarily against making an article for this subject matter. Just that we need to be careful of not synthesising a topic. An alternative to making the article, of course, is to add the subject matter into 1990s in Hong Kong and 2000s in Hong Kong. Right now, I don't think either article discusses things like HKers learning Mandarin practically en masse, or that many HK businesses have had to do business in mainland China, or people crossing the border for weekend shopping, etc etc. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 07:25, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Anybody have any ideas on what article we can do a collaboration/FA push on? Currently I've got Stanley Internment Camp nominated for GA, and eventually I'll push for FA if it passes GA. There's a non-Hong Kong related article that I'm interested in making an FA push for (The Rape of Nanking (book)), but I was also thinking of maybe pushing either Leslie Cheung or Anita Mui.

One thing I'm interested in, which will take a lot of work, is pushing for a Hong Kong-related featured topic. One topic that comes to mind is Hong Kong during WW2, and it can include Battle of Hong Kong, Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, articles for the internment/POW camps (aside from the Stanley camp, another notable camp was at Shamshuipo, which coincidently was later used to house Vietnamese refugees, and there was also a camp in North Point for Canadian prisoners). Maybe include Gin Drinkers Line, but I don't know how much room that article has for expansion.

I had found a book Not the Slightest Chance: The Defence of Hong Kong, 1941 [5] and another book The Battle for Hong Kong 1941-1945: Hostage to Fortune [6]. I had skimmed the former. It is a day to day witness evidences from different military units. — HenryLi (Talk) 16:21, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

I've left a note on the talk page of the FL criteria page asking if a minimum number of items on a list need to be articles, or what if some of the items on a list are just plain text, and not red-linked, if that would be a problem.[7] Hopefully they don't all need to be articles. But if they do, an option we might explore is grouping some of the buildings together in one article and hope that we can achieve notability that way. For example, I'm sure we can make just one article for all the The Belcher's Tower buildings. Likewise for all the other buildings that are from the same building group. (This actually pigues my interest in writing an article on Hong Kong's urban planning. It's probably one of the most, if not the most, sophisticated cities in the world in terms of urban planning.) Creating articles for

I need to see if they're going to be notable enough, or at least see if I can make them look notable. Google searches are mostly returning real estate agencies' websites. The Belcher's website just calls the complex "The Belcher's"[8], so I think that may be the best name to use for the article, and acticles for it actually exists in both Chinese and Portuguese Wikipedias ([9][10]). Another option would be just shorten our tallest buildings section. Perhaps we could set an upper limit for Hong Kong's tallest buildings to be included on the list. Though as List of tallest buildings in Boston, List of tallest buildings in Philadelphia, and List of tallest buildings in Dallas will show, I don't think its' a problem either creating articles for all the buildings or nominating a list that has red-links. All three of these articles are featured lists and have red-links. Although, it is worth pointing out that their lists are considerably shorter for tallest builings only limiting them to the top 30. I agree, I like the current TVB Pearl format. If ATV World is ever gonna be done, it should be done under that format. However, there aren't that much information around for ATV World.
