Elisabeth Klein was born in Trencsén (now Slovakia) and lived in Budapest, Hungary from the age of 3. At any early age she demonstrated a strong aptitude for playing the piano.[citation needed] After graduating from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, she studied privately with Béla Bartók from 1934–1936[3].[citation needed]
