Old Malton is a village in the civil parish of Malton, in North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated just south of the A64 road and is 1-mile (1.5 km) north-east of the town of Malton.[1] The village is on the B1257 which links Malton with the A64 and the A169 road to the north and is bounded on its eastern side by the River Derwent.[2]
History
Old Malton appears in the Domesday Book[3] as Maltune (meaning Middleton),[4] the present day settlement of Malton (or New Malton) came after Old Malton.[5]
In May 1547,
In 1891 the civil parish had a population of 1844.[15] On 1 October 1896 the parish was abolished and merged with New Malton to form "Malton".[16] Until 1974 it was in the North Riding of Yorkshire, from 1974 to 2023 it was in Ryedale district.
