First Jewish mayor, or second?

The first Jewish mayor of New York could be said to be

Halacha, which holds that the son of a Jewish mother is himself Jewish, he was Jewish and could have even been counted for a minyan
; his mother's maiden name was Luzzatto, and his maternal grandfather was a rabbi in Italy. If you count LaGuardia, then Beame would have been the second Jewish mayor, not the first.

I'm not going to add this to the article page yet. If I see no objections here I may add the line in italics:

"He was the first Jewish mayor of New York, or the second if Fiorello LaGuardia is counted as Jewish."

Terrible mayor?

The article mentions his rank as the 14th-worst mayor, across a wide expanse of time. It doesn't do much to explain what was so bad about his term. In fact, the preceding paragraph states that he turned a huge deficit into a surplus. Yitz711 (talk) 07:14, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
