Pronouns?

I saw a few recent articles that showed Yi with they/them pronouns, while older ones show she/her. Is there a source that show what Yi actually uses/prefers? Robtcore (talk) 13:50, 10 May 2021 (UTC)robtcore[reply]

I've seen recent articles (the ones about her criticism of Franco and Rogen) that use she/her pronouns. Yi's Instagram account used to have "they/she" in the bio, but otherwise I haven't been able find a source that shows what Yi uses or prefers. People keep changing the pronouns on this page without properly sourcing where they're getting this info from, so it would be nice to get a consensus on what Yi's pronouns actually are. Correct Age?

Age shown on Wikipedia as 22 (born 1986), but 32 on her MySpace page. Which one is correct?--CheMechanical 05:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Age quoted as 21 in Daily Bulletin article by David Allen: http://www.dailybulletin.com/davidallen/ci_6803552--CheMechanical 05:54, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

B-day stated as 1976 by IMDB. Linked Variety article says 20 years old at the time. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117960233.html?categoryid=2453&cs=1 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.36.188.253 (talk) 07:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should it be mentioned that she was a finalist for the Andy Kaufman award? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.88.249.22 (talk) 17:56, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the article interviews state she's in her early 20's for example: http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/01/sundance-update.html http://articles.latimes.com/2007/may/31/news/wk-yi31 Why would anyone trust myspace? My 12 year old cousin is 81 according to myspace. --PeaceIt (talk) 19:43, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Insider actually comments on the 20 v 30 (which I guess is now 30 v 40) controversy:
  • Schwarzbaum, Lisa (21 January 2009). "Sundance update: Charlyne Yi's joke is on me". Hollywood Insider. Archived from the original on 24 January 2009. Never trust Wikipedia, or Facebook, or people who say that Bride Wars is actually about brides: Charlyne Yi is in her early 20s, not her early 30s.
This links back to an article from the previous date, although by the time archive.org got to it she had already added a strikethrough to the statement I'll quote here:
That's RESPONSIBLE followup on errors, weird how Hollywood Insider was probably performing at a better standard in 2009 than major news outlets are today. Her reference to "Yi's joke" on the 21st probably indicates that Li stated her age as around a decade older as some kind of joke on both her MySpace (remember that?) in 2007 and Tumblr in 2010. Special:Diff/125798239 shows that on 25 April 2007 someone added the 4jan86 stat. It was changed 30 May 2007 then reverted back 14 June 2007. Can we find the earliest archive of this being on MySpace? 70.51.193.44 (talk) 07:26, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

According to this: http://charlyneyi.tumblr.com/post/1657155290/how-old-are-you-wiki-says-24-but-your-myspace-says, she is 34. This is her tumblr and she is answering the question herself, so I think it's safe to say she is 34, unless she was joking? Why would she agree to be in an article about being under 25 if she isn't under 25? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.255.162.173 (talk) 12:40, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That URL has expired. Here is an archived citation:
I'll add it to the article. Actually in exploring the sources, 2 support 86 and 2 support 87, so I've added them and I guess we could explore how Hollywood Reporter was misled by wrong information on Wikipedia, possibly from a MySpace/Tumblr joke from Yi herself. Can we verify if she operates those accounts? 70.51.193.44 (talk)

Heritage/Descent

First line of article...

"Charlyne Amanda Yi[1] (born January 4, 1986)[1] is a Chinese-Filipino-American actress, "

But the "Early Life" section does not reference any Chinese lineage.

"Yi was born in Los Angeles, California. Her mother, a native of the Philippines, is of Filipino and Spanish descent[citation needed], and her father is of Mexican, Korean, Irish, German, French, and Native American ancestry." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.9.64.4 (talk) 04:12, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Basically: an American. Somebody had already removed those lines, but forgot to remove all the fractional ethnicity categories. Done.

I believe that the Charlyne Yi page should be kept because she is a comedic genius and is breaking out into the comedy scene as well as the big screen. She's working on a pilot with Steve Coogan as of now with U NBC.

4 sources to narrow date of birth

Ignoring the dead "Family Tree Legends" which should probably be removed...

They could ALL be right. The facts from these are:

  • 21 years old in May 2007
  • 23 years old in September 2009
  • 20 years old in February 2007 (w/ another source saying 20 in 2007, moot point)

Someone could be 20 in February and 21 in May if their birthday fell between those two points. Being 23 by September 2009 would follow in due course.

The problem here is that Yi's date of birth would have to fall someplace between February 28, 1986 and May 31, 1986. January 4th does not fall within that 3 months span so I'm heavily skeptical about the claim this is her birthday. Pretty sure anybody can add info to FTL so I don't know if there's a guarantee that it was actually her or a reliable source who added the January 4th birthday.

Based on the Boyd/LaPorte interaction, it would seem to support being born in 86 and not 87, but only if you accept the premise that January 4 is the wrong birth date. 70.51.193.44 (talk) 07:45, 8 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pronouns

There is a discussion about Yi's pronouns at the top of this page, and there seem to be three different conclusions: They/Them, They/She, and She/Her. My view is that if we don't know, the best course of action is to keep the non-gendered pronouns as the article currently uses. If they are changed I will revert these changes, please don't start an edit war, contact me here. Cassie Schebel, almost a savant. <3 (talk) 00:29, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. They/them are their chosen pronouns, according to their official website, which is an allowed source for this (

Grammar

I tried to read the beginning of this page, and it was unreadable...then I realized what was happening. The grammatical errors are to many to list. It's really a bad joke when plural pronouns are used for a single person. Very sad to see education and the english language being destroyed. 68.186.243.77 (talk) 00:59, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree, it's weird when people want to correct grammar/spelling, but fail to use proper grammar/spelling themselves... 2003:D5:D721:3700:C507:68A8:AF48:CB87 (talk) 21:34, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
