Nationality

Is there RS which states he is of German nationality? I can only see that in the 1990s he moved to Austria and then Germany. The current lead also suggests that he was of German nationality during the war. Mellk (talk) 05:08, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

According to this German newspaper, he was a de:Kontingentflüchtling but it does not specify whether he took the German citizenship (presumably, he was a Soviet citizen at the time of this move to Austria and then a Russian citizen). Since he was not born in Germany but in the then-Free City of Danzig, he might also have had a Polish citizenship but that's speculation. Regards SoWhy 11:25, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information. Mellk (talk) 21:47, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

69 Survivors

The line 'was one of 69 soldiers in his Red Army division to survive the war out of 12,000' seems to originate in this Reuters article: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-holocaust-memorial-auschwitz-liberati-idUKKBN1ZE1MA, but it seems really implausible - the division had enough men in it to liberate Auschwitz, and there wasn't a lot of fighting after that. Can that line be removed if there isn't a more reliable source?
