This is a New Zealand bird. It breeds only in New Zealand. In New Zealand it is named Banded Dotterel. So I think the article should be named Banded Dotterel. And the Australian name should be a redirect. Greetings, Dick Bos (talk) 23:30, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We use the internationally standardised names provided buy the IOC across Wikipedia; it saves arguments and disagreements. The IOC name for this species is Double-banded Plover. Incidentally, I would strongly disagree with the assertion that a migratory bird is only a bird of where it breeds. This species is an Australian bird as much as it is a New Zealand one. The double-banded plover (Charadrius bicinctus) is a species of bird in the plover family native to New Zealand. During the winter and the spring, it has a dark, greyish-brown back with a distinctive white chest, a thin band of black below the neck running across the chest, and a thicker brown band below. Outside the breeding season, the double-banding is lost; this photograph, taken in March, shows a double-banded plover in non-breeding plumage at Boat Harbour in New South Wales, Australia. Hello, this is a suggestion to correct the taxonomy reference. There is an earlier article by Barth et al. (2013) that found the relationship that is cited here as an article from 2015. The correct text/reference is:

A 2013 study found its closest relatives to be two other plovers found in New Zealand, the New Zealand dotterel (Charadrius obscurus, also called the New Zealand plover) and the wrybill (Anarhynchus frontalis, which the study found to be in the Charadrius CRD II clade).^[1]
