Addressing this issue also at the EuroBasket talk page. The results map shown does not include Kosovo as a country (recognised by FIBA as a sovereign state this year) because of the editor's origin being Serbian. How should the playoff round losing teams be ranked? At the last championship, there were two round robin phases, and also some placement games, so the teams are sorted by place in those groups. This year, if I'm not mistaken, there is only 3rd place playoff. To form the FIBA rankings all teams are ranked without ties, whether they are grouped here or not does not matter to me, I am not looking for an argument. Look here on page 16 for the most recent classification rules for events where they do not playoff for position 9 through 16.

As 18abruce the document used as reference in the Final ranking section is actually 2014 FIBA World Cup Media Guide. In its 16th page it stabilishes the criteria for ranking teams eliminated during the tournament for witch placement games were not played based on their records in the Group Phase. So placing all teams eliminated in Round of 16 as 9th, all the 5th placed teams in groups as 17th, and all the 6th placed teams in groups as 21st is in contradiction with the source provided. I could't find an especific document detailing the fainal ranking procedures for Eurobasket 2015 as we see in that Media Guide for the 2014 World Cup, but since Eurobasket is a FIBA tournament and its regulations explicitly states that FIBA regulation must be followed, I think it's reasonable to assume that the same rules of 2014 World Cup are being followed in Eurobasket 2015. To enforce that assumption, now that the final has been played, the official website of Eurobasket 2015 has published a Final Standings table, ranking every team individually, and if we care to make the ranking based on the Group Phase records of each team, we see that it is the exact ranking procedure used to make that Final Standings table on their website. Just something I forgot to say above. The only rule change concerning standing procedure from 2014 to 2015 was that FIBA turned back to goals difference instead of goal average. Nothing that matters much, since the situations in witch those two criteria would disagree are quite unlikely to happen in real tournament situation. The FIBA archive should have the final ranking any moment now. We should abide by that once it is published. As for rankings, this would be the one of the last tournaments that'll matter as by 2017, FIBA will be using a new qualifying system which would make the current rankings system obsolete. (That said, it'll be interesting if someone comes up with a calculation if the USA's lead in insurmountable by the time the 2016 Olympics, the final tournament to use this ranking system, ends.) –HTD 21:28, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think FIBA will give some rank points to partipants in the new qualifying system and keep giving points to the continental championships, but they will be played once every 4 years. As for USA and the rankings, they can't be reached. FIBA will update the ranks after the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. At that update the USA will loose 40 points since they last played in FIBA Americas Championship in 2007 and those result will be dropped as the 2015 results enters the ranking. The USA will have 1.000 points. As for Spain, they will gain 10 points, since they were 2nd in 2007 Eurobasket, going to 715 points. When 2016 Olympics end, the 2008 results will be dropped. In the worst case scenario for USA, they will be 12th, gaining 35 points, losing 250 from 2008, and staying at 785 total points. The best case case scenario for Spain, they win the Olympics and gain 250 points, lose 200 points from 2008, and stay with 765 total points.201.43.244.55 (talk) 00:05, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think FIBA would use the current FIFA world ranking system, with higher weight on the continental, world championships and the Olympics, so maybe everyone starts back to zero once the 2016 Olympics is over. If they do start back to zero, and USA won't be caught up by any team in the old system (thanks for doing this as I'm lazy to calculate that by myself), they'd be like will be like the perpetual world #1 or something (LOL). –HTD 18:21, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
