A fact from Maria Bethânia appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 4 April 2008, and was viewed approximately 1,015 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows: Did you know... that Brazilian singer Maria Bethânia released her first recording the same year as her brother Caetano Veloso, even though he was four years older? A record of the entry may be seen at Wikipedia:Recent additions/2008/April.

I removed the tags linking Maria Bethânia to "Roman Catholic entertainers" (et. al.) as she believes in the Afro-Brazilian candomblé religion and is not a practicing Catholic. Candomblé deities and spirits figure in her music and videos. Like many Brazilians, her religious beliefs are highly syncretic. - macongo, 12/31/06, USA/EUA
