Images

This article honestly needs an image. Right now a newcomer has NO idea how "marine snow" even looks. I'd even go as far as to say that if there is no image of anything about this, then this article should be removed in the long run, as the term "marine snow" implies something visually to see too. What is the problem with getting authority for an image about this anyway? There are plenty of images available, financed with public research money at universites... how does google manage to show these images but wikipedia does not? 194.166.99.254 (talk) 05:33, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll second that this entry is worthless without pics. — LlywelynII 18:22, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Export production

What is the exact relation between

export production
? Perhaps the articles can be merged?

They are strongly related. Much (but not all) of what comes under the heading of export production is marine snow. Larger lumps of organic material (dead metazoans, etc.) are too large to reasonably be described as marine snow, though they contribute to export production. My suggestion would be to merge export production into this article, making clear that not all export is marine snow. Then redirect export production this way. If we can find some sort of reference to quantify the contribution of marine snow to export, that'd be brilliant. Cheers, --Plumbago 13:49, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No references

there are no in text citations, and the links posted are of poor quality and not peer-reviewed.

This whole page should be re-written, making use of any available literature which is actually peer reviewed, and not from something which looks like a college essay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattloque (talkcontribs) 14:14, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge

I propose we merge

export production into marine snow, as they cover similar ground. This is part of a large discussion, please feel free to join in here. Thanks :) Anxietycello (talk) 02:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply

Hmm. That does not seem to be entirely correct. In the recent book "Microbiology" by John W. Foster, "marine snow" is mentioned under the section of "Biofilm" formation. I don't think this is 1:1 compatible with export production. 194.166.99.254 (talk) 05:32, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
