Oil

Why is their all this detail about oil exploration on this page. The page needs to be about the Niger delta. The contents regarding oil operations should be somewhere else. The page should contain information about the delta, ecology, local species, geography, people bordering the delta, fishing for food ..., yet a good portion of the article is about oil. Should this not change. scope_creep (talk) 19:28, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Math

The first paragraph under "Recent crisis" states that: "Almost 7000 oil spills occurred between 1970 and 2000, more than one each day."

Since there are 365 days in a year +1 day every four years, there are about 30*365.25 or about about 10957.5 days in a 30-year period. That means that if there's been "almost 7000" oil spills in a period of 30 years that the number of oil spills per day is "almost" 0.64 and definitely not "more than one". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.189.223.216 (talk) 00:51, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

85% to 1%

It says 85% of national oil revenues end up in the hands of 1% of the population and references an NBC article which says '. To compile an inventory of the achievements of Nigerian petro-development is a salutary, if dismal, exercise: 85 percent of oil revenues accrue to 1 percent of the population. ' and doesn't reference - do referencing dead ends from comment pieces act as a proper citation? 13:11, 20 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.11.76.229 (talk)

I am removing the quote in the interim as no comments have been made --129.11.76.230 (talk) 09:42, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What about the Delta?

Following up on what was alluded to 3 years ago, despite being titled the Niger Delta this article does not deal with the actual delta of the Niger River in any way. This article is entirely about the region of Nigeria that is dependent on and geographically related to the river delta. I feel as if this article could be relocated to a separate entity termed Niger Delta (Region) and this article be completely overhauled to contain information about the hydrological delta that has been completely overlooked.

]

There is an article for Niger Delta Basin (geology) though as its title suggests it is only about geology (I think - I know next to nothing about geology). That said, I don't take a position on whether this should be re-titled like you suggested and more natural sciences-oriented stuff placed here. I don't think both should be on the same page, however, unless it is a common practice, since the readership would not generally overlap. ThomasEdistar (talk) 06:51, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Truncated history

This article seems to say that this region had no history before 1885. Surely it had thousands of years of history before white colonialists moved in and took over. I wish I had the expertise to change this, but I don't. I hope some day someone does. Dgndenver (talk) 16:08, 23 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
