Could anyone document any case in which consistently successful schools receive very short inspections? To the best of my knowledge, Island School, my old school, is one such school. In fact, the inspectors coined the term no ordinary school in their final assessment in 2002, yet Island School received a inpsection involving multiple inspectors over several days, may be a week. Many longtime teachers would argue that it was one of the most thorough inspection in their memory. Hence I would be shocked and very surprised that they would let any school get away with only a one-day inspection by one inspector. (No ordinary school by Chris Forse)

Could anyone tell me why this page isn't in the UK government and politics group of pages? Ofsted is undoubtedly a government agency. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.146.157.138 (talk) 15:44, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

Surely the name should be

WP:COMMONNAME says 'Ofsted'. Any objections if I move it? Fmph (talk) 12:56, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply

Put in a move request via
WP:RM so that it gets wider exposure as it could be controversial. Keith D (talk) 19:23, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply

I agree that a move seems sensible - let's propose it. PamD (talk) 14:15, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills → Ofsted — Common form of name, used universally both by [1] and about the organisation. Also, the short form is more durable than the spelled out version, so will avoid need for change next time there's a minor change of title. See "What links here" for interesting collection: many links already via redirects from "Ofsted", "OFSTED", "OfSTED" and "Office for Standards in Education" (name pre-April 2007). Article needs clarification on governance of Ofsted

As anybody who has followed the UK press recently will be aware, Ofsted has a chairman. The role is currently held by

Sir Michael Wilshaw
, and no mention is made of the body having a separate chairman or board of governors.

Clearly the governance of Ofsted is more nuanced than this article implies, and the article needs amending to clarify the relationship between Chairman and HMCI(E). -- chris_j_wood (talk) 10:34, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ofsted inspects "each school in England"

"The Office carries out regular inspections of each school in England..."

The usual inaccurate drivel from Wikipedia. Ofsted does not inspect each school in England. Private schools, amongst others, are not in their remit.94.194.179.2 (talk) 03:02, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From Sept 2015 there is a new inspection framework

From September 2015 there is a new inspection framework, which replaces the one listed as 'current' from circa 2012 (Government announcement is here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/changes-to-education-inspection-from-september-2015).

In short, the new system will inspect all education providers in the same way (previously there were different inspections for schools, nurseries and colleges). In addition, schools that are rated good or outstanding will be inspected more often, around every three years. However, this won't be a full inspection, but a short inspection. There will also be a reduction in the use of inspectors contracted from privately-owned companies. Instead, Ofsted will contract with inspectors more directly.

I'm new to Talk so sorry if formatting is incorrect; just wanted to point this out as the information on the page about the current inspection system is now outdated.

Article needs greater clarification around jurisdiction

As Ofsted is only responsible for state schools in England, and the devolved administrations have their own inspectorates, that fact should be made clear in the opening paragraph not just in the infobox and under the section "Current state" LandmarkFilly54 (talk) 23:12, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
