My guess is that he accidentally nixed the full text. The edit summary referred to the unecessary reference and not the rest of the text. To be honest, I don't think that editor was the problem. Long levi 08:43, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

- Also, Long levi's comment above answers one question I had, which was why he added back part of something he had deleted when he was Tecmobowl. Basically, he messed up. (In more ways than one, obviously.) I'm going to put the whole thing back to before Tecmo/Levi reverted it originally. Baseball Bugs 10:12, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

1935 Tigers Article
Hi there. I have been expanding several articles for the Blue Jays seasons and I started creating articles for the Braves and Expos seasons and I just wanted to say that your 1935 Tigers article is superlative. This is a very well done article. It is nicely detailed and well researched. You have definitely given me some creative inspiration.

Instead of adding things like
The Animals articles
Good job creating articles on The Animals' albums and songs. Please be careful about the requirements of music-related articles: album titles go in italics, song titles go in double quotes, songs don't get wikilinked unless there's actually an article for them, album and song articles always have at least two categories (for year and group), and article title disambiguation, when necessary, uses "The Animals" and not just "Animals". If you look at some of the changes I've made to the articles you created, you'll see what I mean. And kudos again for creating these, they have long been missing and it's good to have them here. Template
I am thinking of eliminating the other important figures section. I think we have fleshed out every type of individual who could reasonably contest being added for being in a class of important individuals. I think the remaining persons are personal favorites more than important persons. The only possible category I might add would be Michigan Hall of Honor. However, I think we should leave the template generic so that other schools from other conferences as well as our own can copy it in a way that helps the project move forward without needless battles. I like guys like
WP:LOTD) 21:22, 9 December 2007 (UTC)- I think the best way to look at the template is to view it as a general template that we are using for Michigan. What should every football program (in BCS conference) do? I think it might be unfair to WP:LOTD) 21:53, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- You make a good reasoned point about the length of the template being the result of the inordinate number of AAs, Pro Bowlers, etc, who have come out of the U-M program as opposed to other programs. As for specific people in the OIF category, I think Henne is just like Morris and Breaston. Though he never made All-American and may never be a Pro-Bowler, he is the holder of a number of very significant all-time U-M records, including the all-time career record for passing yards. I included Mallett mostly because of his central importance to the current program, but he also holds the U-M record for the longest pass from scrimmage in school history with a 97 yard pass to Manningham in the Nov. 2007 Wisconsin game). - ...that center Adolph F. "Germany" Schulz (pictured) was one of the initial inductees into the College Football Hall of Fameupon its creation in 1951?
- ...that center Adolph F. "Germany" Schulz (pictured) died ten days after being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame?
- ...that center Adolph F. "Germany" Schulz (pictured) is credited for developing the "roving center" technique, which became the basis for the linebackerposition?
What do you think? By the way, my knowledge of American football is rather limited, so I'm not certain whether the wording of the third hook is technically accurate: did the "roving center" technique become the basis for the linebacker position, or would it be more accurate to say that it reflected the essence of the linebacker position? I have beefed up
WP:LOTD) 01:28, 30 December 2007 (UTC)My New NCAA Chart
Many thanks for reviewing the table. I always appreciate input on my work. Ah, 1947...I cringe thinking about how many Blue fans I will have to face about that year. First, I would like to assure you that I personally consider Michigan to have been the best football team in the nation in 1947, and I'm sure a vast majority of experts would agree with me (it wouldn't surprise me if half of the 119 writers that voted Notre Dame #1 in the special poll were strict adherents to the pre-bowls format, and the other half was just plain dumb — although I might be in agreement to the tiniest degree with the former, as, in those days, the bowl game was not so much a season climax as a nice trip to California, with a football game thrown in). I wish to God I could bold the Mad Magicians — nine other Michigan teams won consensus national championships, and yet the 1947 squad, the team robbed of the title by famous Notre Dame, was the best of the bunch. I smiled when you mentioned Bump. In fact, I have a great deal of sympathy for your situation. The 1958 Hawkeyes won their consensus title from the FWAA, who voted after Iowa smashed Cal 38-12 in the Rose Bowl. So, be prepared, as I will sound like a massive hypocrite defending the decision to exclude Michigan's '47 team from consensus status, a decision which I can find no way out of and yet am tortured by every day. Sorry for the melodrama.
The sources of the consensus national championships are the official NCAA record book and the list of champions on NCAAsports.com, the official site for NCAA sports. Like you, I am very appreciative of the inclusion of the NCF as a consensus selector through 1935 (which knocks on four more titles for Michigan). The period from 1950 to the present is also very sound, save the inclusion of the NFF as a consensus selector. It's the period from 1936 to 1949 that gets me. A number of deserving teams were named national champion by selectors other than the AP, with the 1947 Wolverines leading the pack. (no pun intended — wolverines travel in packs, right?) Both the record book and the NCAAsports.com list have Notre Dame as the one and only AP champion of '47. I read all of the information about the special poll of 1947 in 1947 Michigan Wolverines football team. It goes without saying that it is difficult to prove what was and wasn't official sixty years ago, and, in this situation, I'm afraid that it might take more than a few local newspapers to overthrow the NCAA. Most of what I've heard claims that DFP editor Lyall Smith put together the poll, and all of what I've heard claims that the poll was unofficial. Basically, what it comes down to is finding a way to prove that the special poll was official, if such an achievement is possible. If you can do it I would be behind you 100%, and I'll provide any help you may need along the way. As I've said, I would love to be able to list Michigan as a consensus national champion in 1947, but, until I have enough to go on, the decision has been made by myself and others to rely only on the official information. Good luck on your quest! (Again, sorry for the melodrama.) Iowa13 (talk) 06:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't want to come across as holding a bias towards Notre Dame — in fact, I am a considerably outspoken opponent of Notre Dame's status as king of the college game. One national championship in the last thirty years should hardly earn one the title of king. But you must understand that departing from the method used for designating consensus champions for one year out of 137 will look even more biased, especially since, as hard as it may be to swallow, the popular bias towards Michigan is nearly as bad as the one towards Notre Dame. There are other years besides 1947 in which the consensus method leaves out a deserving or includes an undeserving, but strict consistency should be favored over picking and choosing. A deserving Michigan team left out will almost always generate more controversy than another deserving left out. Obviously, none of that would matter if the AP really did name two official #1's in '47. I would very much like to see the PDF's of the AP articles. My email is [email protected]. I got a GA on hold at Talk:Tyrone Wheatley. There are a couple of reviewer concerns that might be aided by your resources:
- "Some describe him as the greatest football player in Michigan High School history." If you're going to same "some", include more than one source.
- I could just reword, but if there are multiple sources that would be interesting.
- "In college, Wheatley also ran track. He was the 1994 Big Ten 110 metre hurdles champion and was selected first team All-Big Ten.[28]" Single and two-sentence paragraphs either need to be expanded or incorporated into another paragraph. I'm sure there is some more information about this that can be added.
- Do you have access to any more details on why he was All-Big Ten?--WP:LOTD) 14:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- Do you have access to any more details on why he was All-Big Ten?--
With respect to the latter of the above, since he was a high school state champion in four events and a big ten champion in only one, it is interesting to figure out if he ran more than one of the four events in college and if his All-Big Ten award was merely for hurdling or for a combination of events. Can you help with this?--

Willis Ward
I got the 2008 Michigan Track & Field Media guide. They do not credit Ward as ever being a NCAA champion. High jump 2nd in 1935, 3rd in 1933 and long jump 4th in 1935 giving him three All-American recognitions. The Big Ten record book does not credit him as an NCAA champion. The NCAA record book credits a Bert Nelson as the 1932 NCAA champion.--
WP:LOTD) 19:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)- I guess I am asking for a response on the following: "Ward won the NCAA high jump championship in June 1932 with a jump of 6-7 1/3.[4]"--WP:LOTD) 18:31, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I deleted the material you added to the Chappuis article because it was unsourced. The information is interesting, and if you have a verifiable source, it can be re-inserted. Because the Chappuis article is currently undergoing a "good article" review, it cannot have unsourced material in it. If it is left in without source material, that would result in it failing the good article review. Cbl62 (talk) 00:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

UM hoops
I had mentioned it to you for a couple reasons:
- It is kind of an honor to create such an important page, which will surely be highly trafficked once created and properly linked.
- You have done so much for Michigan Athletics that I think you deserve such an honor.
- It kind of looks like you are running out of Michigan Athletics pages to work on.
- It is kind of fun to do a page that will be actively edited with current news and since you have done so much creating of back roads articles, I thought you might want to be the creator of one that is a main thoroughfare as it were.
I am a big hoops fan, but have lost interest over the last few years of no Dance tickets. I actually flew to the tournament to see Webber call timeout and was also in attendance when the 1997 squad won the NIT. Both games no longer exist officially however. I am not sure I am the man to tackle such an article. However, while creating the coach template, I noticed that eight big ten team articles exist and Michigan has a redirect. We are all alone in 9th place I guess, which is about proper given the current state of Michigan hoops. We are ahead of Penn State and Northwestern who don't even have redirects. The article will get written. People will notice eventually. It may take until we have another good season, but it will be written I am sure.--WP:LOTD) 22:50, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Bob Chappuis at FAC?

The presumption at WP is that local churches and local elementary schools are not notable, so I think you'll have an easier time of it if yo uadd something specific from the start. Catholic churches in the LA archdiocese
Congratulations on tackling this important project!
I was just expressing my opinion on the Afd (too lengthily for a brand new article! ) basically in favor of keeping the article at least until it matured. Since everybody jumped in and improved it, that was in pretty short order. I had jokingly thought to try this again on another church - come in with a weak article deliberately, then nominate it myself for deletion and complain to my fellow editors to help! :) This was the fastest improvement I think I have ever seen on Wikipedia. It went from Afd to "GA" in about three days! :)
Sorry. I know of no general source on the web for the size of a parish. I know each parish has this info but I don't know who gets that info besides the bishop who might publish it. You'd think there'd be a parish site comparable to those schools have. So I just try to blunder into a figure from browsing for parishioners. Even one from a few years back would be good enough for me.
I regret that I cannot help. I have articles (incl churches) in Vermont and in several counties in Florida and others totalling about 875 articles I'm watching. While this is nowhere close to what "real" editors do (Nyttend watches 8000!) it's about all I can handle. And I do usually need a "personal" connection to keep me interested. Nice of you to ask. Good luck! Student7 (talk) 00:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I feel that a lot of other factors too are taken into account while assessing an article apart from size. Though the article is long enough, I dont think it has enough sub-headings. Well, maybe, you might have a different opinion altogether. Anyway, you can always reassess the article if at all you felt that the article deserved a higher rating. :-) Thanks-Ravichandar 04:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- I personally feel that there are a few drawbacks with the article. There is little on his personal life and it has been included under te subheading "College" which might be inappropriate. Besides, there is more weightage given to his achievements in college than professional career. Regards -Ravichandar 04:48, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1935WorldSeries.jpg}
Thank you for uploading Image:1935WorldSeries.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an
image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale. If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. I've just recently resubmitted the article for featured article candidacy, and I'd appreciate it if you could take another look at the article to see if it now meets your FA standards. how to do a redirect
I'd be happy to do it for you, but it's easy. 1. create a new article for Congregation B'nai B'rith 2. In that article, include only
#redirect [[Wilshire Boulevard Temple]]
That's all. :) doncram (talk) 06:21, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
any more churches that are NRHPs?
You're welcome about the redirect info, and it is a good idea for that exact purpose.
I see here you've been creating articles on churches in the LA area. If there are any churches that you want to do that are on the list of NRHPs, I would be glad to help, and I believe i would be able to help in significant ways. The
List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles County, California shows articles created already for NRHPs in LA area, and many redlinks. An easier-to-read list, with street addresses and more info, is this list of LA County NRHPs at NRHP.COM. Let me know if there are any you want to do. Anyhow, keep up the good work! doncram (talk) 06:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)- You mention going through Los Angeles landmarks, and I did see one of your references in the Wilshire Boulevard Temple article was for some landmark number 110 or something. Do you mean you have a list of official California state landmarks in Los Angeles, or a list of official City of Los Angeles landmarks? In either case, I would like to help take on those systematically. For one thing, there is need for an infobox customized to those, like the NRHP infobox is customized for NRHPs, to hold the number and so on. I could help with that, if you are doing that. And if you are, is this in connection with WikiProject Southern California or any other wikiproject? doncram (talk) 06:53, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
- Got your message about Burbank City Hall and Breed Street Shul. I have gone and edited both of those somewhat. I observe that you must be creating NRHP infoboxes by cutting and pasting from another article, and then editing in the new article (because, for example, you had the REFNUM for the Burbank City Hall in the infobox for the Breed Street Shul). If you do any more NRHP sites, it is much easier for you to use what I call the Elkman NRHP infobox generator, developed and maintained by Elkman for the NRHP. Just go there, search and find your site, and then cut and paste from its output there. It will be all filled in with actual information from the National Register Information System database, from which Elkman did a big download of data. Then you can make further changes if you have additional information. Anyhow, very nice job with both of those articles! doncram (talk) 22:06, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
More Cali NRHP articles
Those are really nice articles. Great photos. Great development of the text. The stubs are nice too. I am meaning, by the way, to go out of my way to visit the Burbank city hall, one of your previous articles that i am most interested in (and which, as a public building, I expect will be more open to a visitor bumping in than other places). I think the only thing i have to suggest, is, please announce your new articles in Wikipedia: WikiProject National Register of Historic Places! There is a new articles list-box on its main page, just hit edit and put yours in at the top of the list. That will get a few NRHP writers more experienced than me to visit your article, and they may have more substantial suggestions to make. You're certainly invited to join the WP:NRHP directly, feel free to sign up on the main page. But whether you do that or not, you are welcome to announce the new articles and to participate on the project's Talk page. Really, though, you're doing great.
Oh, I wonder, do you know that you can request the full NRHP inventory-nomination texts, and accompanying photosets, from the U.S. National Park Service? They send them out for free. You just have to request them by email to nr_reference (at) nps.gov (send your postal address, they copy and send out by postal mail). You found one of those documents useful for the synagogue article, which they happened to make available at their website. It's usually a very good source; you should just request it routinely. doncram (talk) 05:09, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
List of Registered Historic Places in the City of AngelsHi CBL -- I just started up
List of Registered Historic Places in the City of Angelsas a list-table to cover just the NRHPs in the city of Los Angeles. I would like to add some intro text and put it up for DYK, along the lines of "did you know that the City of Los Angeles has 123(or whatever) sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places".For now, I am leaving off a Description/Summary column, until the DYK happens, because it would be impossible to fill it all out.
Could you take a look at it? Please discuss at the Talk page. doncram (talk) 21:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, good, glad you do like it. The rest of LA County (and, apparently some more that belong in this list, are sitting now in List of RHPs in LA County. Please transfer over whatever other rows should be transfered over into the City of LA table. I don't know all the neighborhoods of LA, nor do the good people at the National Register. By the way, i have a recent pic of Bolton Hall in Tujunga, but i wasn't aware that was in LA. I did know already to transfer over the places listed in NRIS as being in Hollywood, North Hollywood, and San Pedro. Perhaps the NRHP people were anticipating that the referenda for independence of Hollywood and Long Beach/San Pedro were going to pass.
- I will propose the DYK to give credit to you too, by the way, though you get more of them every week than i ever have gotten in total... :) doncram (talk) 00:55, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for stepping in fixing up location information (and/or switching across the City vs. County lists). About Naming conventions, in regards to "Al Malaikah Temple - Shrine Auditorium" and others, though.... in a list of National Historic Landmarks such as List of RHPs in the City of Angels, although that may link to an article named Shrine Auditorium. The problem is, we are temporarily constrained by having no Description column for a few days until DYK expires. In the description column, it would make sense to work in the Shrine Auditorium alternative/common name. doncram (talk) 04:26, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

(unindent) I agree about splitting out Pasadena, also. Am surprised it has so many. It is definitely next. But let's be strategic about when to split it out to create a new article, so as to put it up for DYK. Let's see if the LA DYK (not yet submitted) flies. doncram (talk) 03:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, i see that you have been busy with the photos! Great work, i am very impressed. Appears almost 1/2 of the 186 have photos already. I took pics a while back of Baldwin Hills Village, will add one of those, but otherwise i am done for a while and will not be able to add more.
- Yesterday i put it up for DYK, in the cohort of articles started May 15, so it should be up for DYK for tomorrow the 20th already i think. The nomination is at [[3]]. It would be nice if you wanted to propose a picture to include with the DYK, or to suggest any alternative wording. My nomination wording is not that great. I am not sure how it works with giving co-credit; i asked to share credit with you and with KudzuVine. KudzuVine has been great about adding pics into list-articles about National Historic Landmarks in many states, and he responded to my request to add pics here, too, although neither he nor i have done as much as you.
- After the 20th, I'll add a description column so that we can try to say something short and interesting about each site, if that is possible... :) doncram (talk) 15:21, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

List of RHPs in LA CountyHi -- It's taken me a while to get caught up with some other stuff, after being away for a week or so. Earlier i added a Description column to the
List of RHPs in LA County to separate the 96 Pasadena ones into a separate table, which can go into a new article. How do you want to proceed with that? I was thinking we could collect photos for the Pasadena ones, adding them into this table, and then when ready create the article and a 1500 word intro and go for DYK. The table development could be with the Description column included or not. I am inclined to include it all along. I am guessing the DYK will be accepted, as long as the article is new and the paste-in from the existing article is just the table, with the text to be created within the new article, so it will be viewed as brand new 1500 word article (as opposed to having to create something that is 5 times as long as the sum of all the descriptions in the table). Let me know what you think. (Also, maybe you could email me and we could try to get together sometime, perhaps to meet in Pasadena taking pics? There's an email-to-me button on my userpage.) Anyhow, i see you are continuing to do great stuff, keep it up! doncram (talk) 03:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)- Got your message back. Los Angeles Plaza Historic DistrictI note there is not a separate article for

We think alike. An infobox for LAHCMs is needed. I believe that there is too much hard-coded about NRHPs into the NRHP2 infobox for me to adapt that to cover sites that are LA Historical-Cultural Monuments (LAHCMs) but not also NRHPs. However, its code can be adapted to create a new infobox on LAHCMs alone, or perhaps on LAHCMs and also California Historical Landmarks (CHISLs), or perhaps to cover any generic local designation. See my posting at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#Local designations enabled for NRHP2 infobox. If you would post a comment there about what you see is needed, or how importance that is, that might be helpful in getting others to help. I believe there is sympathy for this need, and i know others have expertise that would be relevant.
If an infobox is developed for LAHCMs specifically, what information should it include? Certainly it should allow for the LAHCM site number, rather than the NRHP refnum. I do think the WP:NRHP discussion thread is the right place to develop these ideas, though. doncram (talk) 15:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

About the last pics for
List of Registered Historic Places in Los Angeles, i'll get that one missing one in Silver Lake, if u haven't already. Also i could make a pic trip to get Van Nuys and the 2 in Chatsworth, or i could make a pic trip to get the 3 in San Pedro and the 1 in Wilmington. Please let me know if you have those in your camera, or in your sights, already. That leaves just a few others. One towards LAX, maybe u got it already, open on Saturday and Wednesday only. I expect u r mopping up the remaining ones downtown. Cheers, doncram (talk) 03:57, 2 June 2008 (UTC)- Yes, very close. Okay, good to know about the gatedness of Garbutt House. May try to get it anyhow, will try to consult a near-neighbor to there. Okay, u do Chatsworth then and i will try to score the 5 near San Pedro. By the way I see Big Orange Landmarks blogspot guy, who you have cited before, was able to score both of the Chatsworth ones: Chatsworth ones at Big Orange Landmarks blogspot. That blog seems useful to follow for tips how to find some sites. Cheers, doncram (talk) 04:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- I went to San Pedro and got Battery Osgood-Farley, Municipal Warehouse No. 1, and the Wilmington Branch Library). I'll upload them in the next few days. I also got pics of a pillbox, down by the water, that may or may not be the other Battery that i thought was needed (while i thought we already had a pic of Battery Osgood-Farley near the hilltop). But:
- American Trona Corporation Building is located inside the Fort MacArthur military base. I got a Public Affairs phone number to call, to try to make some arrangement. But the officer at the gate, although helpful about other sites, did not know of the American Trona building. So I am requesting the NRHP documents on it from Washington, to be more informed before trying with the public affairs office. Also there is a chance the NRHP documents will have a useable photo.
- S.S. Catalina is the former ferryboat to Catalina, and is reported to be sinking or sunken by now, in Ensenada Mexico (reported by ticket-sales-person for the current Catalina ferry, located under the big bridge, who knows because it was in news reports and because she saw it sinking there in Ensenada, herself). I took a pic of the terminal building, and will upload that. S.S. Catalina took about 4 hours to make the trip, while Catalina Express does it in about 1 hour now.
But:
- About the Kerckoff Building and Annex, the LAHCM document gives 3 alternative sets of street address numbers for it: 553 S. Los Angeles St., 101-133 E. 6th St., 558-564 S. Main St. ( think the NRHP lists just the first address). So i am not looking at a map right now but figure it may run along 6th street between S. Main and S. Los Angeles St. then.
- good, glad u got el grec, which i dont remember what that was going to be anyhow. consider benedict canyon to be eggs, or toast, or some such sentiment! doncram (talk) 04:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
- meaning i got pics of it. interesting about El Greco Apartments, that it was moved and so on. I added LAHCM info, and to do so switched infobox to NRHP2, which by default shows the California map. It's time we rounded up a Los Angeles map to use, instead, for all the Los Angeles sites. If u don't like having the CA map appear, and prefer no map (and i wonder if i prefer no map for El Greco and for others), then just set locmapin= to blank, rather than locmapin=California. doncram (talk) 12:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

- Okay i relented and uploaded a few. :) Muni Warehouse No. 1; Kress House in Benedict Canyon; Wilmington Branch. Have multiple pics for each of these, just uploaded one each. Have a couple pics (not great) of Catalina Express and/or the Catalina terminal under the bridge, in lieu of SS Catalina (the sinking/sunk ship now in Mexico). I am afraid the pic we have placed for Battery John Barlow and Saxton in the table is a pic of part of Battery Osgood-Farley, instead. Have multiple pics of Osgood-Farley. Not sure if Battery John Barlow and Saxton still exists. i got pics of a pillbox at/near where Battery John Barlow and Saxton should be, but am unsure what to do with them. I think we need more real info, such as official NRHP nomination documents for several of these sites. About meeting or other, please email using my email box on my userpage, i would rather not chat about such out in open, permanent record space here. doncram (talk) 19:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

LAPL and Los Angeles Central Library
I notice the Los Angeles Public Library could use updating with wikilinks to each of the new branch library articles you've been creating. Probably there should be a separate Los Angeles Central Library article split out, with a "main article" link from the current section in the LAPL article (as for New York Public Library about the library system, and New York Public Library Main Branch ). As a new article, with 5X expansion from current section, could be a DYK. Just thoughts.... doncram (talk) 14:04, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

(I guess people wondered if he was some kind of dangerous terrorist... but he's not that dangerous.) --BorgQueen (talk) 17:30, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the notice and compliment. However, I did not write the article. I started it, and a group of plant editors made it a nice little article worthy of being on the front page, including adding a researched hook, discussing what to use as the hook, including alternatives, and nominating the hook for inclusion in DYK, and monitoring it while up for consideration.
The problem with the awards and recognition for DYK is they are given to individuals, when Wikipedia is a community of writers. I write with a small group, and was once honored with am award, but my editor and I turned it down because ... we are a community of writers, and the award honored only me.
The Cushion plant article is an excellent example of what Wikipedia can put out. But it will always be battled by that list on the DYK awards page of the accomplishments of individual editors, the triple crown winners, the 50 DYK winners, those on their 100 DYKs--quantity is demanded for the awards. There are no awards on Wikipedia for not plagiarizing.
Over 14,000 people clicked on that article because it was an interesting hook in an article about an obscure, but relatable (nature) subject, accompanied by a nice image, created by a small group of hard-working editors.

Old Stagecoach Trail and Old Santa Susana Stage RoadGot ur message/question. I think you were encountering a situation where the NRHP name in our LA list was a red-link and was different than the name of a pre-existing article on the site, and you handled it correctly by revising our list to keep showing the NRHP name (as it is a list of NRHPs) while wikilinking to the pre-existing article. And you added the NRHP infobox, keeping the NRHP name there (as it should be). Further, I edited the article intro to mention the alternative name. And further, i created a redirect at the NRHP name for the site. I think we talked about how to do redirects a while back....
It would have been similar if the problem had been we had created a new NRHP article already, before finding the pre-existing one. Then I would have supported merging our material into the older article, and converting our new article into a redirect to the older one. That gets to the same result as above.
In mergers, I do think it is courteous to merge the newer article into the older one, so that the older history of edits stays with the article. Even if the newer article name is better, because the merged article can be moved with its entire long history to the newer name, after.
Anyhow i think you handled it right. Thanks for checking in! doncram (talk) 22:58, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Got your message. I could meet there then, would like that. Have been there before. Could you please send me an email using the email-to-me box on my userpage, towards making specific arrangements? doncram (talk) 12:41, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- About the DYK, it is fine for you to nominate and not include me, i don't think i have contributed much yet. Though i do still hope to upload some pics.
- About the article name, I don't have any strong opinion about "oilfield" vs. "oil field", though i guess i must have thought oilfield is a legitimate term. I think common usage should govern in choosing the article name, more than what NRHP program used some time ago. Not sure what the set of related articles should be, is there to be one on Well No. 4, one on the whole canyon, one on Mentryville, one on the replica oil derrick and/or the picnic site there? At the time when i started the pico canyon oilfield article, I was expecting there might possibly be a well number 1, well number 2, and so on. However, there is just the well number 4 and the replica derrick. Again what should govern is what the common usage is, perhaps to be clarified soon. doncram (talk) 16:33, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
DYK reviews
I could have missed your doing this already, but could you consider doing some DYK reviews? I notice there are some general requests for help in reviewing at
wt:DYK. Even without being an administrator, you can do a lot there, from commenting on proposals to selecting and moving approved ones to the next update. Apparently we just can't move the next update to the page which shows on the Wikipedia mainpage. Any small comments with or without evaluation checkmarks or question marks, help.By the way, i reviewed one of yours and i also notice your Harold Lloyd Estate in DYK; too bad the pic i took previously seemed not to have been of the right place. Cheers, doncram (talk) 20:29, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for jumping in to help on the DYK reviews, that helps a lot. Thanks also for fixing cite in Millard House, which i then ok'd. doncram (talk) 00:55, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cbl62, If you don't mind, would you review the above article under the August 23rd section? An IP earlier added a comment if there should be obituaries on DYK, but a second opinion would be appreciated. Thank you,
