Welcome to
WikiProject Civil engineering
!

Hi, Dumelow, welcome to WikiProject Civil Engineering!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles related to Civil engineering. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Civil engineering-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Project-wide affecting discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, of which you are welcome to take part in.
  • If you're not sure how to help, take a quick look at our To Do list for ideas.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

PS - So that's the official welcome template (second time I think it's ever been used!). Meanwhile, I'll peek in on those those articles you recently created, and tagged for the project - great work. Thanks! ZueJay (talk) 01:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all, it was so well written in the first place that very little tweaking was needed. Keep up the good work!

Archimedes bridge and Immersed tube

Hello, Dumelow!

I noticed you have been quite active in the Civil Engineering wikiproject, and I thought you might be ablre to help me. I have a particular interest in

Archimedes bridges, but the article currently doesn't go into much detail. I know nothing about civil engineering, but since I'me Cape Verdean
, I'm curious to know if such a bridge is feasible between the islands there. Can you help me figure out some facts on this subject? In any case, a little expansion would be good to the article.. :) Oh, by the way, would you tag it as covered by the project?

In another issue, I have read about

asked me in my talk page
. Evidently, I couldn't answer to his questions... So, could you give this one article a hand too? :D

Finally, I'd like to call your attention to the duplicate civil engineering project template {{

engineering}}. I marked it with {{merge
}}, but i left the task to be done by someone closer to that project. I assume you might be interested in taking care of that. disregard this, I didn't notice I was misinterpreting the scope of those two different tags. 20:48, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, I guess it's all. Cheers,

Thanks a lot! I will too be doing some research on the subject, and hope to be able to add some content to the article. Namely, I'm going to add english subtitles to the videos in the italian company website and upload them to youtube, and link them from the article, among other simler things like bringing content from websites that talk about the subject. If I had some time I'd even make a 3D animation myself, but I can't promise that, since I have a huge workload on school due to be finishing my course. Oh, and btw, probably the best now is for us to communicate through

Premier Basketball League

The only top level basketball league in the US is the NBA. The Premier Basketball League is considered a "developmental" league, and such leagues receive virtually no coverage outside their home markets. Some don't even get that. These leagues rate far below college basketball on the notability scale. Hope this helps. DarkAudit (talk) 16:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gazettes/honours etc

You may find User:David Underdown/Honours useful - the Gazette search isn't always perfect because of the way the text has been scanned in, but I've been noting down the New Year and Birthday Honours for each year as I come etc them. The gazette search is here if you haven't found it. To make sure you've got as much as possibl eit's usually necessary to search on full names, first names, middle initials, surname and all initials + surname. Oops, sorry, I should have looked to see if there was an article under his later name before creating this one. I guess I didn't look as hard as I might have done because there are so many of these great Victorian engineers without wikipedia articles, so I wish you luck with your project. Thanks for doing the merger; I'll be happy to do what I can to tidy up and provide citations.

Great work! I was actually thinking of expanding the article when I was writing
List of Sultans of Zanzibar, but I never got around to it. Again, good work! Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 19:39, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply

Yes indeed I enjoyed it too.

White cat 08:26, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply

I've done a lot of work on African geography and history myself. I wondered if you had any books or anything on Mozambique history particularly conficts with Rhodesia. I;ve managed to find the occasional scrap from google but I can't accomplish anywhere as near as I wish to unless I have the books

White cat 17:40, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

That would be good. The Portuguese and trading history on Mozambiques coast has a vast amount of info missing. From the 1550s through to the victorian period.

White cat 18:08, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

I've got access to some more sources, so I'll be expanding/referencing the article in the coming days. I'll be sure to cover all the MoS and formatting issues as well. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 13:01, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you have Hernon's book, could you format the references with specific page numbers. I just personally prefer if a footnote provides you with a specific page number, rather than a page range (Hernon 2003, p. 397 instead of Hernon 2003, pp. 396-404). It's alright if you don't have the book or don't feel like doing this. :) Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 14:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was going to do it, but neither my university library nor the other ones in the area have the book. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 14:45, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in the process of replacing all BBC
WP:RS. I suspect some of this material can be found in Hernon; could you help re-source some of this material? Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 02:11, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
Very strange. Last week, I thought I didn't have access to this journal, but I guess I was wrong. I can send the pdf via email if you want. Just send me an email, and I'll reply with the pdf. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 12:23, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some of your images have dubious licensing. Since the author's date of death is unknown, these images would not apply under PD-art, and probably are not part of the public domain. However, if these images you scanned from Hernon appeared in publications, then PD-UK-unknown would apply. For example, I fixed this tag, since you had indicated that it was published in Illustrated London News in 1896. Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 14:41, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Zanzibar palace guard low.JPG)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Re:Welcome to WP:CEng

Hi, I am not a civil engineer yet and my knowledge in this field is extremely limited, infact i haven't even started my degree yet. However, I am sure that I will be of some use to this project soon. Right now I would like to work on expanding some projects here. I know there are not many civil engineering topics related to Pakistan, but I can be of some help if you find one. I will start with the ones that I am comfortable with!

Map

Another point on the map: the fonts shouldn't be sized until you know what size you want it displayed it. Right now the fonts are unreadable in a thumbnail. So let me know about that too.

If you have access to a graphics program capable of overlaying text onto the background map, then you can do that part yourself if you want -- I can send you the raw graphic by email, or upload it for you to grab. Let me know. Mike Christie (talk) 16:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem; I'm happy to do it. Can you let me know what size you think you want the image in the article? My feeling is that if you thumbnail it, which technically you're supposed to, then it's unreadable anyway, so the best thing is to make it readable when clicked on and not worry about too much readability at the thumbnail level. I'll proceed on that basis. It's easy to change if you want me to. Mike Christie (talk) 16:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I wondered if you could improve this? Dr. Blofeld (talk) 13:12, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
