Disinformation and military deception

After pinging you at Talk:Disinformation, I noticed your deception project; that looks both ambitious and a really good project to improve the encyclopedia, bravo. Given your experience and work on this, you'd be well-placed to add something to the Disinformation article (or military articles?) about the definitions of disinformation and military deception, in particular, how they are similar or different, whether there's an overlap or the latter is a subset of the former, and so on (I'm guessing overlap, with m-d largely being part of disinfo, but not entirely; but that's just a hunch).

I'm approaching this from another angle, having created the article New generation warfare, which I'm the first to say is in abominable shape, and needs a rewrite; I'm gathering resources and have a lot of them now, but have been distracted in various directions for a couple months (you know how it goes) and need to get back to it. But I suspect we could join forces productively to improve the whole area of disinfo/military deception. I also think it's a big enough area that it could use its own nav template, which is a good way to both assist project interconnectivity, as well as see at a glance the breadth of our coverage (for readers) and what areas are missing or remain to be done (for editors). Anyway, thanks for your comment at Talk:Disinformation, and looking forward to collaborating on whatever may come out of this. Mathglot (talk) 19:44, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

@Mathglot: Thanks, good to hear from you. I agree with pretty much what you've said at the talk page - and the merge is the right thing for now. I do think there is a wider topic to sort out, I was looking at all the other pages in the topic and there is a lot of crossover and duplication. It's a big job though with a lot of background reading.... :) I've not been able to get editing much for a few years now, but trying to make the time. Focus at the moment is to see if I can get Operation Bodyguard to a Good (or Featured) Topic status - but it's only the thorny, long and annoying articles left! Disinf definitely overlaps Military Deception, so there is a place for it - I definitely see a distinction in terms of disinformation in general, and then how we see it used in the social domain vs. the military domain vs. the policitical one. And I think thats the bit I think the current crop of articles don't quite show very well. One for the backlog perhaps! I'll try to add a bit of content as I find it. Sounds good. Given your interests, no doubt you're familiar with the case of The Man Who Never Was. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 17:04, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
