Fish and karate? Why not just one? Don't you feel sorry for the children you're depriving of fish and/or karate?? You heartless bastard. GlassCobra 08:19, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey
I saw your notice to POTW, I understand where you're coming from, but he's just not going to be talked around.. the last time he got, forgive me for the word, obsessive about retaining that bit of old business on his user and talk page, it led to the Arbitration Committee, and his second one year ban. At some point, we have to say, enough. I hope he takes the olive branch, I'm willing to unblock him myself, all he needs to do, is let old grudges die the death that they long since should have. But what I hope for and what I expect are two different things, unfortunately. SirFozzie (talk) 09:59, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I would love him to let it die, but I bet he doesn't. fish&karate 10:09, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- sighs* yup, he's completely ignored the discussion, except for cherry picking the two or three people who agreed with him, and ignored the 20-25 people who didn't. Can you try explaining to him at theis point, Wikipedia doesn't CARE about his grudge with Leonig, only the disruption that results from him continuously bringing it up? SirFozzie (talk)
- I've tried. We'll see what he says. fish&karate 11:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Your top right user box on your user page is munged - the one that says "I'm an administrator" has a space bug introduced with your new username (which now has spaces). I'd fix it but it's protected. ATren (talk) 06:16, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
AN/I
In case your being done with the discussion means that you would not see my reply... I think you must have missed Andy's agreement to not repost the material. I quoted and linked to it on AN/I. That is WHY I am so annoyed with the people calling for Adambro's head. If he'd unblocked without such an agreement from Andy it would be a disputable case. But to make such a fuss about it after the user had agreed? Completely unacceptable IMO. --CBD 13:49, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- I missed that completely - in that case, the unblock was totally appropriate, and you are right to castigate all the complainants. fish&karate 14:07, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me, the article was not promotional at all. I have no link to the company whatsoever. The reason all the sources are from there is that it was the easiest place to source it from at first glance. There are few links elsewhere. I would like your thoughts on how to improve the article, rather than just deleting it. Alex Holowczak (talk) 11:48, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Furthermore, A7 states that if it is school related (which it was), it must not be up for speedy deletion, it says it must go to articles for deletion, for a more thorough analysis. There were therefore no grounds for a speedy deletion. Alex Holowczak (talk) 11:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- Alex, if there are no links elsewhere, then it is unlikely the article would meet our notability criteria for corporations (see 11:52, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

- What do you mean "How so?" They're all murderous leaders of different factions that the anti-war movement has falsley lumped into as fighting for the same cause, despite evidence to the contrary. Not just because they've each killed US and other coalition troops, but because they've also killed Iraqis and others who don't fit in with their respected agendas. Each person represents three different factions. Take them out, and you've got NOTHING! ----DanTD (talk) 16:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for saving the article "Associazione Volontari Italiani Sangue"
This is all the more appreciated since the article is about a charitable and non-lucrative organization. You did a really wonderful work and now the article is even more complete than the Italian version from which I sourced my article.
MoinMoin
Hi Fish. No, it doesn't make sense: the template clearly claims that the subject is not notable: "This article may not meet the general notability guideline..."; "please expand or rewrite the article to establish its notability"; "If notability cannot be established, the article is more likely to be considered for redirection, merge or deletion". I'm not a Wikipedia guru, so I have to go on what the template says, which I read as "this subject is non-notable and the article will be soon deleted unless someone can prove otherwise". Thanks. --R27182818 (talk) 15:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much for this feedback. Lightmouse is busy trying to debug something from the script, and clearly what was safe is now not. (Actually, I think he's already fixed it.) Will report it to him immediately; we rely on such messages. And I fear that the niceties of date-range puncuation are not his thing. Sorry for the inconvenience. I presume that you've fixed it; if not, buzz me and I'll do so. Tony (talk) 14:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Andrew Kelly
Andrew is still making inflammatory remarks on his talk page and probably elsewhere too, after you warned him. While I realize there is zero chance anyone will actually have the guts to block Andrew, ever. It does suggest that policies need to be put into place to prevent this. Editors who promote racism are quickly removed yet this is deemed somehow less discriminatory. — Realist2 14:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- There are policies in place. 14:25, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you voted in the last FAC for this article. Currently, it is undergoing a peer review and I invite you to come view the page and offer any suggestions for improvement here [2]. Over the past three months, the page has been improved with additional scholarly works, trims, two new sections suggested in and attention to concerns raised during the last FAC. Thanks in advance for your time, attention and help to bring this important article to FA. NancyHeise talk 23:51, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

SoWhy RfA
Just a note that I think the sections to which extended discussion has been moved should always be visibly linked to from that spot in the RfA page from where the discussion was excised. This is doubly true when not all of the moved comments are contributing to the disruption which led to the moving of the thread. I've added links to all the sections. I also noticed that Jimmi Hugh's withdrawn support has been moved to the talk page entirely, where it is effectively hidden from the view of the vast majority of users who only look at the RfA page itself. Imho, that should practically never be done unless the user who cast the original vote decides to remove it from the RfA page him/herself. There should at least be some kind of link to indicate that something has been excised. Since these are recurring issues in RfAs, I'm starting a thread at WT:RfA to draw wider attention to the issue since I've frequently seen people move stuff to RfA talk pages without including a link with their moving notice. Just a Question from Icosahedronman
Hey fish and karate, I have another account, Prince Elfangor, that you blocked, and the reason is "troll". What kind of a @#&*-ing reason is that? Also, seeing as I haven't attempted to make an article or edit anything in over a year, I really think you are being overly harsh. I just found out about my being blocked when I went to edit the page on circles yesterday 'cause someone put a whole bunch of swears after the word circle. I see that it's been fixed today, but still. Just wanted to let you know that you're preventing me from removing terrible language from Wikipedia, rather than making articles 'cause I have nothing to write an article about. Icosahedronman (talk) 00:09, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

A long term wikipedian. I understand your concerns about getting involved in the behind the scenes rubbish, a concern that many people have about wikipedia. I am surprised you became an administrator then :). One question, your post on the ANI board about the range block, can you tell me the basics about how you got the 92.8.0.0/13 figure? I was just interested thats all. If its too much to ask then how does one know that such a block would range in half a million addresses being affected? And if thats too much of a concern, something easy then. Is there a tool on the web where i can figure out when an admin does a range block, what IPs this affects? Sorry about the questions, i was just curious thats all and all advice would be appreciated. Thanks 211.30.127.142 (talk) 08:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Too many edits to ANB and ANI can make you look stupid
Neil - I'm glad that you are contributing to articles instead of wasting your time at ANB and ANI. Few months ago I was an IP editor. I edited Wikipedia with IPs for about six months before creating an account recently. Wiki-drama at ANB and ANI has zero connection with the outside world. I've discussed about wiki-drama with my friends. People are interested in Wikipedia articles, not wiki-drama. I always saw your name at ANB and ANI, and I felt that you were wasting your time there. You are a competent editor, and I’m glad to see you contributing DYKs. Your new name "Fish and karate" is cool, and hopefully your next RfB will succeed. I'm from Kathmandu. Hi there. Thank you for your message. First of all, I want you to know I take your warning seriously, and appreciate you keeping an eye on this page. It also seems the page has indeed been protected. Thank you. Yes, I have been very open about the fact that I am an assistant to the subject and have been uncomfortable (and, to say the least, frustrated) that I have had to be involved in this at all. I was not hired to deal with this issue, and the subject is unaware of my work in this regard, but I do care about her reputation, as you can imagine. The editing/vandalism of the page came to my attention by others who noted repeated long-term attempts to cast the subject as a racist.
The subject is a public person and her reputation is what makes her work possible. I was dealing with edits by someone who, according to their own talk page, has a history of hostile edits to the pages of Fox personalities. Obviously the intensity is up because of the election. I fear it will remain up.
I appreciate Wikipedia's BLP rule, and my entire point has been only to keep the page from being vandalized and for it to remain neutral. I finally expanded content last night only because I felt a more extensive article might make edit wars about one element less likely and less inviting, and I have been in *regular* contact with administrators throughout this process, contact I have sought out to make sure I was doing everything right and according to the rules. I have also been very open about my knowing the subject with every contact I have made.
Thanks for listening and for your efforts. With the page protection I think I can get on with my actual work. I love Wikipedia and appreciate all that you guys do. Thank you for being so vigilant. Obsessivelibrarian (talk) 20:22, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your input at my successful Rfa. I'm already thinking about working on my content creation. Hopefully in a few months, I'll have passed the point where you would've !voted Support. If you have any more suggestions on how I can improve myself as an editor, I'd be happy to hear them. Happy editing!--Aervanath lives in the Orphanage 21:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Arbcom Elections - Question Page
Good morning. I've posted General Questions from 5 users to your questions for the candidate page. With those, and the ones you've already answered, you now have the entire General Questions list on your questions page. Nothing else was transcluded or amended. ArbCom questions
Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article this week, and your response is requested.
- What positions do you hold (adminship, mediation, etc.), on this or other wikis?
- Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
- Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
- How do you feel the Arbitration Committee has handled cases and other situations over the last year? Can you provide an examples of situations where you feel the Committee handled a situation exceptionally well, and why? Any you feel they handled poorly, and why?
- What is your opinion on confidentiality? If evidence is submitted privately to the Committee, would you share it with other parties in the case? Would you make a decision based on confidential information without making it public?
- Why do you think users should vote for you?
Please respond on my talk page. We'll probably go to press on Tuesday, but late responses will be added as they're submitted. Thanks, Ral315 (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Followup
Thanks. I've asked a followup. I'm honestly not trying to ask hardball questions. We agree on the destination, but disagree about the path. I'm genuinely curious about other views on how to get there. Cool Hand Luke 18:59, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
my vote
Greetings. I really appreciate the work you've done on the project overall, and would naturally feel inclined to support you in the election. But the removal of OTRS and your participation in WR give me serious pause. The first strongly suggests you are not to be trusted with sensitive information and subjects, and the second suggests a willingness to get involved in drama and negativity. I'd like to support you, but can you address these two issues for me? Feel free to email me, Steven Walling (talk) 01:03, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Virgin Killer
Have you just protected it in a version with the alternate cover at the top? If so, you are going against the consensus that was reached some time ago on the talk page, and which no-one appears to have bothered revisiting. DuncanHill (talk) 14:09, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- I didn't even look at the version; I rolled back a "rv - vandalism" abuse of good faith sort of edit and protected the page - are you suggesting I protected it on m:The Wrong Version? ;) fish&karate 14:11, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- You changed an article then protected it in your preferred version. That is a big no-no. DuncanHill (talk) 14:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Would you be agreeable to my reverting the change I made and leaving the protection intact? The protection was to stop the edit warring; the prior revert was because edits that label good faith as vandalism make me cross. fish&karate 14:15, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be OK - I do feel that those editors who were making such changes without bothering to use the talk page first do stretch many editors' ability to assume good faith. DuncanHill (talk) 14:17, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- The current consensus is to keep the image in, so I would suggest that it would be a good move. Daniel (talk) 14:18, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

That was absolutely bogus, re: Virgin Killer
Revert that change immediately, please. This article and the image are the subject of a huge controversy at the moment over UK ISPs blocking users access to the Wikipedia. I fully understand "locking on the wrong version" guidelines, but it is simply not applicable in this case. Lock if you must, but restore the version wit the image intact, please. Tarc (talk) 14:11, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- I am very aware, as a UK user I am as subject to the ISP issue as anyone else. Perhaps you shouldn't have started reverting good faith edits while labelling them as "vandalism"? fish&karate 14:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Go on over to Muhammad sometime, where users who remove the images of the prophet are reverted and blocked on sight. Same precedent here; broad consensus has established that the image is to remain, even to the point where there is a warning of that specific nature at the top of the articles' talk page. So no, that user's edit was not even remotely good-faith. But in the interests of harmony, I will pledge to refrain from labeling any future reverts as "vandalism" if that will help smooth the waters here and get the article restored to the proverbial "right version". Tarc (talk) 14:19, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- That would be great, thanks Tarc. I know that seeing lots of different people make the same edit - one that you and many others don't agree with - can be taxing, but bear in mind that they're doing what they think is best, just as you are, and labelling such edits as vandalism creates more bad feeling. fish&karate 14:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- You shouln't have removed the image. Here it clearly states that Administrators should not use their tools to advantage, or in a content dispute (or article) where they are a party. Guy0307 (talk) 14:22, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not a party, and couldn't care less what images are or aren't on the picture. fish&karate 14:24, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- For future refernce, when you protect an article, you should protect it in the state you find it. Reverting to a prior version or changing the content prior to protecting is a misuse of tools. -Chunky Rice (talk) 17:41, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

- Done, but the article needs more than what it currently has - if it still has no more content than it presently does in a few days, it should be merged into the election article. fish&karate 15:28, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I understand that you deleted a post I tried to add yesterday. I'm not sure why, as I believe I followed all the guidelines (adding external references etc). The post was about a law firm, and although this may appear to be blatant advertising, the post was no different from other law firms' posts e.g. Olswang and all the other law firms listed in the following category: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Law_firms_of_the_United_Kingdom Could you please clarify exactly what was the reason for the deletion and what I have to do to reinstate the post? I added a comment on the discussion page and expected there to be a discussion before the post was deleted, but there was nothing. I would be grateful if you could clarify. Many thanks, Julia --

vandalized Alfred de Zayas article in the German Wikipedia
the Alfred de Zayas article has been subject to vandalizing in the American Wikipedia. Currently it is semi-protected, but it may need full protection. In the German wikipedia the article suffered massive vandalism in 2oo7-2008, Wiki-rage and Sperrung. The article is currently "semi-protected" and only old users and administrators can get into it. Alas, some of the old users and German administrators collude and although the discussion pages (mostly archived) disprove the incorrect material added, the administrators do not implement the necessary corrections, so that the article is more like a caricature. Two examples -- notwithstanding the brilliant reviews of "The German War Crimes Bureau" by Professor Christopher Greenwood (Cambridge University, just elected British judge at the Interntinal Court of Justice) by Benjamin Ferencz (US prosecutor at Nürnberg) in the American Journal of International law, etc. the German Wikipedia pretends that the book is poorly researched. When you look for their "source", you do not get a review, an article or even a discussion of de Zayas' book or methodology, but a footnote in an article about something else by a certain Gunther Wieland, a former GDR-prosecutor (now deceased). IP users indicated this to the administrators as early as November 2007, but the wrong information is still in the German Wikipedia article. Another example, on 29 December 2008 a new section was added by the administrators "Rezensionen" (bookreviews). The new section contains one single review of the book "A Terrible Revenge" (Palgrave/Macmillan, 3rd revised edition 2006) -- nor a review of any of de Zayas' other 6 books -- obviously a negative review, again by a weak source, not a professor of history or law -- and all other reviews are ignored, e.g. the extremely favourable reviews in the London Times, in the Ottawa Citizen, in the Netherlands International Law Review, in ARMY, in Publishers Weekly, and in the two crucial German-language historical journals -- the Historische Zeitschrift and Geschichte in Wissenschaft und Unterricht. Normal IPs who have pointed this out are immediately blocked and even new Wikipedia users are blocked ("indefinitely") if they attempt to correct the article. This surely violates Wikipedia rules and seems to correspond to a form of cyber-terrorism. How can a normal IP complain to the Administrators of the German Wikipedia? There are two administrators who have seriously abused their discretion -- Sargoth and Seewolf. How can an investigation of their actions be requested? Is there an email address for complaints to an administrative oversight? For the time being, please keep the protection of the English language article, because if unprotected it will probably suffer the same fate as the German. The French Wikipedia has a fine article and is not being vandalized.83.77.251.202 (talk) 08:43, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
blocked user
Hi. User:Afghan25 seems to be a new sockpuppet of User:NisarKand who has been permanently banned. Since you are the one who banned him, I thought you might be interested in this. Another very suspect newcomer is User:Alishah85. All of them have similar interests, writing styles, and "ambitions". Tājik (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
